I looked up at my brother, and my heart broke when I saw tears build in his eyes.

“Yes,” I said just above a whisper, and Wrath moved his glazed eyes from my face.

  Pow! Pow!

I stumbled back and almost fell on my ass when Surge sent two punches to my face.

“The fuck is wrong with you, nigga?! WE ARE FUCKING RAMSEYS! WE DON’T TURN ON EACH OTHER!!” Surge was so angry he was foaming at the mouth. “Mannnn, I need to get the fuck up outta here before I forget you’re my brother and kill your ass!” Surge erupted. “You fucked up a lot of shit! Had us believing it was my girl, and it was you the whole fucking time!”

  “I’m sorry. I made a mistake.”

“Fuck your sorry, Guns!” Surge growled, and then he stormed out of the warehouse, slamming the door on his way out.

Legion looked over at me, shook his head, and then followed Surge.

“Pac, you and your boys take care of Dagger and them,” Wrath ordered Pac while his eyes stayed on me, but I didn’t feel no type of way.

“On it,” Pac announced and then left with his boys behind him.

My dad took his phone out to call clean up to take care of Bully’s body.

I looked up to see Wrath staring down at me. More tears built up behind his eyes, but this time, he allowed them to fall, making me feel like shit.

He didn’t say a word; he just stood there looking at me as angry tears flowed down his face.

“Today has been a day,” my dad said after ending his call.

Wrath nodded while wiping his wet face with the back of his hand.

“Alvaro,” I called out to my big brother and made a step toward him, but he stopped me by putting his hand up.

Shaking his head, he turned and walked out of the warehouse without saying a word to me. When the door closed behind him, my dad looked at me for a few seconds before doing the same thing, leaving me standing there alone and wondering how I was going to fix this.

  Jashawn ‘Surge’ Ramsey

I angrily bit my bottom lip as I sped toward my house. Tonight, I was hit with some heavy fucking shit, and I needed my woman.

Fuck everything else, I just needed and wanted my girl. My head was all fucked up, and only she could help me through this shit. What should have taken me almost an hour to get to my house from the warehouse took only twenty from how fast I was driving. Seeing Dior was urgent like I needed to breathe.

Getting to my house, I parked my car and quickly jumped out. As soon as I opened my front door, I dropped my keys with my cell phone and took off running toward my room.

“Baby!” I called out as I ran up the stairs, taking two at a time.

The bedroom door swung open, and there she was.

Seeing her face caused tears to build up in my eyes, and I grabbed her, pulling her close to my body.

“Baby, are you okay? You’re shaking,” she said soothingly while rubbing my back.

I was too fucked up to talk, so I just held her, inhaling her scent—a scent I thought I would never get to encounter again. And knowing my little brother played a part in it had me all fucked up.

Dior and I stood in my doorway holding each other without any words spoken between us. She gave me that moment I needed, and it made me love her that much more.

After holding her for a few minutes in silence, I pulled back and kissed her like I had never kissed her before.

  “Are you okay, Jashawn?”

“I am now, baby, but I almost wasn’t. I almost didn’t come home to you tonight.”

Her eyes widened at my confession. Taking her hand, I led her to my bed, sat first and then pulled her onto my lap. I took a deep breath and then told her everything that happened after I found myself surrounded and how her dad helped me.

“Oh my god.” Tears poured down her face, and I kissed her lips.

  “He saved my life, Dior.”

That was the truth. He could have found out about Bully and kept it moving. I didn’t owe him anything, and he didn’t have to help me. I had no idea Bully was coming for me, so his attack would have been a surprise and an ambush.

Bully and his crew alone outnumbered us. It would have been one hell of a fight for me and my boys. They had some serious artillery with them, and it was only the surprise of Kevin turning on them that made it easy to take them out. The guns me and my boys had on us wouldn’t have done shit compared to the guns they had.

Kevin saved my life, and I wasn’t going to take anything away from the nigga.

“I don’t understand. Why were they after you like that?” Dior questioned me, and I sighed from what was about to come out of my mouth.

“Because of my brother.” I angrily gritted on my back teeth and closed my eyes. Saying it out loud wasn’t easy, but it was the truth. A truth I didn’t see coming, nor did I know how we were all going to bounce back from that.

“Your brother?” Dior’s beautiful face contorted in confusion.

Wrapping my arms tightly around her, I pulled her closer to me and rested my face on her side. I told her everything I found out about Guns, including him fucking Faye.

“Oh my god, Jashawn, I don’t know what to say. Why would he do that?”

  “I don’t know.”

He tried to tell me why he did the shit, but it still didn’t make any sense to me. There wasn’t anything Guns could want that me, Wrath, or my pops wouldn’t give him. Even Legion would give Guns’ disloyal ass anything, so to me, he had no real reason to do what he did. Especially, not over some damn woman who clearly wasn’t loyal to my pops like we thought she was.

Silence fell around us again until I broke it.

“And I found out that my mother is alive,” I told her, and she gasped.

Dior and I spoke about everything, so she knew all about my mom. But finding out that she was alive all this time, and that we were around her blew my mind.

“How do you feel about it?” Dior asked, looking down at me and stroking my waves.

I huffed. “I don’t know, baby, to be honest.” Because I had no idea how to feel. “On one hand, I’m happy to know she’s alive, but at the same time, I’m angry to know she didn’t tell us the truth. Cookie is someone who’s been around us for years now. She had a chance to tell us. Why didn’t she?”

That was a question that played around and around in my head from the moment Wrath told me who Cookie was, and I saw her.

She tried to talk to me in the car on our way to drop her to the safe house, but I just couldn’t answer her.

I mean, what was I supposed to say to her? All these years I had missed someone who was in my face the whole time.

Wrath felt the same way I did. Only Pops seemed to be coming to terms with it. I guess since he spent all these years missing and mourning her, to see her alive made him happy, and that was enough for him, but sadly, not for me or Wrath.

I wouldn’t say that I wasn’t happy to know she was, in fact, alive; it was just knowing she knew who we were and never said anything that hurt.

“Whatever you decide to do, I’m behind you, Jashawn.” Dior rubbed my head, and I lifted it to look up at her.

“I know, baby. You’ve always had my back, and I’m sorry it took a minute for me to see that.”

She cupped my face and kissed my lips.

“Dior, you need to go and see your dad,” I said after we broke the kiss.

  She sighed. “I know.”

They hadn’t seen or spoken to each other since the day she confronted him. Dior was angry at what he tried to do, and he was just too proud to call her. But like I said before, he didn’t have to help me. That was his chance to get rid of me, and he didn’t take it. I couldn’t ignore that.

“I can take you to see him tomorrow,” I offered, and she nodded with a smile.

We kissed again, and I allowed my lips to linger on hers. When she moaned into my mouth, I turned her body so that she was now straddling me. I pulled back from our kiss to look into her eyes as I slowly
undressed her. I took that moment to take in every beautiful inch of her smooth, chocolate skin.

After what could have happened to me tonight, I wasn’t going to take anything for granted again. I had always appreciated Dior, but this time it was going to be on a deeper level.

She stared right back into my eyes as we took each other’s clothes off. Her eyes telling me that she loved me just like mine were doing to her.

When I took the last item of her clothing off, I lifted her and slowly slid her onto my dick. A satisfied groan left my lips, and I closed my eyes for a second to appreciate the feel of her warm walls around my shaft.

My eyes opened when I felt her softly stroking my face. She smiled down at me as I looked up at her, and then our lips met again.

Slowly, she moved up and down on me while my arms held her tightly.

“I love you so much, Dior. I love you with all of me, baby, and I will love you until the end,” I whimpered.

“I love you too, Jashawn, and I always will, no matter what. Nobody can take me away from you, Shawn.”

I knew she meant that because her dad tried, but she stayed. And it was her love for me that saved my life tonight.

The next morning, Dior nervously climbed out of my car. I took her hand and led her to the front door. I looked down at her to make sure she was good, and after she offered me a smile, I pressed the buzzer.

The door opened, and it was Mavis.

“Dior, baby.” She gasped upon seeing her, and the two women embraced.

It had been a few weeks since they last saw each other, and for someone who usually saw her parents daily, that was a long time.

After their hug, Mavis allowed us in, and I followed Dior with my hand resting on the small of her back to let her know I was right behind her.

Mavis led us to the living room where Kevin was sitting on the couch watching TV. When he saw it was Dior, he slowly stood to his feet.

They stood there staring at each other until he opened his arms for her, and she ran into them.

“I’m sorry, baby,” Kevin said as they hugged tightly, and I stood back watching.

“I’m sorry too, Daddy. I missed you.”

“I missed you more, and you have nothing to be sorry for. It was all me,” Kevin expressed.

Dior pulled back to look up at him, and he kissed her cheek.

He then looked at me and walked over.

“Thank you.” He offered me his hand, and I immediately shook it.

  “Anytime. And thank you too.”

  Pharaoh ‘Legion’ Ramsey

  Two days later

“Pharaoh, are you okay?” A’Moya asked, and I looked over at her.

“I’m fine, baby.” I sighed, and she rubbed my arm.

“Are you sure? You’ve been staring into space for some time now. What’s on your mind?”

I had a lot on my mind since recent activities, but the main thing was my cousin’s mother being alive, and it being Cookie. Not only that, but she mentioned my mother, and that had me in my thoughts ever since.

When my aunt Amanda went missing, I was only three years old, so I didn’t really know her. I had no idea she knew my mother or that they were best friends. I guess two brothers ending up with two best friends wasn’t unusual; it was just knowing that she knew my mother.

She mentioned her death, so it had me wondering what she heard had happened to her because, by the time I killed my mother, my aunt had supposedly died years before. Did she hear from the streets that it was an accident or that it was me? That was something that played in my mind from the moment she told me who she was to my mom.

It was like my past came back to haunt me when those words left her mouth. I was afraid; afraid that she would ask what happened to my mom if she didn’t know already, and afraid that she knew, which would end up with my brothers finding out.

I had never told a single soul except for A’Moya. It was a secret I planned to take to my grave. It now had me wondering if I should have told Moya because if I hadn’t, I could have told Cookie the same thing my pops told people all those years ago—that my mother died in an accident.

Although that was what he told our family and my mother’s shortly after her death, I didn’t trust my father at all, so there was no telling if he ever told anyone the truth. For the sake of my cousins—who were still having a hard time dealing with the truth—I was happy for them that their mother was alive, but for me, it had me worried about what she really knew.

“Pharaoh.” A’Moya’s voice pulled me from my thoughts, and I looked at her.

You never should have told her, nigga, I thought as I sat there staring at her. But the more I thought about it and looked at her, the more I knew that I had to tell her.

In revealing my secret to Moya, it changed me, freed me, and made me a better person. Now I was about to be a dad because I let my past go and confided in A’Moya. And as I looked at her beautiful and innocent face, I knew she wouldn’t betray me.

My past was that—my past—and I had a future to look ahead to.

Smiling, I grabbed her hand, placed it up to my lips, and kissed the back of it.

“I’m good. I was just thinking about our baby. I hope he or she looks like you,” I said, and she blushed after reading my lips.

That was the truth. I was so in love with A’Moya that I prayed every day and night that our baby would come out looking just like her just so I could have someone else with her face to look at.

I reached across and stroked her cheek.

“Let’s go out, I want to feed my baby,” I said, and she nodded with a smile.

I stood to my feet first and helped her up to hers. When she stood up, I wrapped my arms around her and kissed her soft lips.

Before knowing she was pregnant, I was addicted to her, but since finding that out, it had grown exponentially. It was something about knowing a part of me was growing inside of her that was drawing me in even more.

We left my apartment hand in hand, and after helping her into my car, I drove us to the mall to do a little shopping after getting some food.

A’Moya wanted to eat at Olive Garden, so after feeding her until she couldn’t eat anymore, I led her to a store to look at some baby clothes. She was early in her pregnancy, but I found myself looking at baby clothes and items. I had never been so excited in all of my life! Even after all the lives I took—especially the most innocent one of my mother—God still decided to bless me by allowing me to bring life into this world.

“Oh, this is so cute!” A’Moya beamed as she looked at an outfit, and I pulled her into my arms.

“I couldn’t ask for a better woman to give me a child. You are God’s gift to me, A’Moya, and I love you,” I said slowly. And like the emotional creature she was, A’Moya teared up.

My baby was a crier before getting pregnant, so now she was even worse. There were many times that I found her crying after watching a movie or commercial on TV. Anything and everything triggered her.

Laughing at her, I pressed my lips against hers and sucked on her perfect lips that were thickening due to her pregnancy. In fact, everything on A’Moya was thicker, and I was in fucking heaven.

We walked around the store for a few more minutes—admiring different items—until A’Moya said her feet were tired.

“I will give you a bath and massage when we get home,” I signed to her on our way to the exit.

She hit me with a wide, sparkling smile, making me smile too.

In a matter of months, I had completely changed who I used to be and now found myself doing romantic things for A’Moya, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. She was the only woman who could get that side of me.

I draped an arm across her shoulder and kissed the side of her head as we happily walked out of the store.

My footsteps were halted when I walked out and almost walked into my dad, who I hadn’t seen since the night I took A’Moya to meet Clare.

  His face look
ed surprised to see us, and then it quickly turned to a frown when he saw A’Moya. He stared down at her for a few seconds, and then his eyes traveled up to the store name. His eyes widened when he saw the name of the store, and instantly, they fell to her stomach. The recognition that she was pregnant flashed across his face, and then he looked at me.

I could see the fire dancing in his eyes even though he had a smirk on his face.

Like I always did whenever I saw his fucking face, I got ready for his ass to give me a reason to beat his ass again, but he surprised me by walking away without saying a word.

I continued to watch as he disappeared around the corner. He may not have spoken words, but his eyes said it all.

“Pharaoh, are you okay?” A’Moya tapped my chest, and after staring at where my dad disappeared to, I looked down at her.

“Yeah, baby. Let’s go,” I said, even though something about his eyes was troubling me.

The whole walk back to my car, all I kept thinking about was the look he had in his eyes. How his whole face changed upon discovering that A’Moya was pregnant didn’t sit right with me. I wanted to put it down to paranoia, but my gut told me it wasn’t.

When I got to my car, I unlocked it and helped A’Moya inside while I looked around. Just as I closed the door after she climbed in, my phone rang.

I pulled it from my pocket and saw that it was my dad, so I immediately answered it.

“I see you have yourself another distraction—or two more shall I say?” He chuckled, and I gritted my back teeth.

“Not to worry, I will just get rid of those distractions too.”

I opened my mouth to threaten this motherfucker, but he hung up on me before I had the chance to do that.

My eyes started to scan my surroundings again to see if I could spot him, but I didn’t.

“Fuck!” I hissed under my breath.

Just like he did with my mother, I knew my father was going to come for A’Moya and my unborn child.

But not if I got him first!

God would have to forgive me for this one, but I was going to kill my dad.
