Everything You Want

He bent down and kissed me. “Shhh…” he said against my lips. “We’ll talk about it later. Right now, I just want to go home.”

  I nodded. “Okay.”

He held my hand as we walked to Shannon’s car.

“So,” I began. “Got caught defacing some property, huh?”

  “Yes. And resisting arrest.”

I stopped and turned to gape at him. “Resisting arrest?”

  “Yeah, I wanted to finish.”

I lifted my eyebrows. “That explains why coffee only has one “e”, I guess.”

“Yeah, they got the Taser out.” He shrugged.

I burst out laughing. “Did you have to take a mug shot?”

He shot a dirty glare in my direction. “Yes. I have a record now, thank you.”

  “What? This isn’t my fault!”

“No, I know. Just messing with you.” He threw an arm around my shoulders and we resumed our walk to the car.

A few feet in front of the car Kieran paused and pulled me against him for a long kiss.

“Marissa, don’t ever shut me out again,” he said when he pulled away.

I tilted my head and grinned. “Even if I see you kissing someone else?”

“Even then. You have to talk to me. I probably have a great explanation.”

I pursed my lips and pretended to think about it. “Okay,” I agreed.

He smiled. “Okay.” He kissed me on the forehead and opened the car door for me to get in.

  Chapter 36

  Kieran

I scooped a few tablespoons of coffee grounds into the basket of the new coffee maker I’d bought Marissa. I’d figured I was going to be spending a lot of my time at her place and I didn’t want to keep walking back and forth for coffee.

It was a Friday night and we’d decided to stay in. I was on probation, so I thought it was probably a good idea to lay low. Also, I had community service bright and early in the morning, so I needed to rest up for that. Since it was a first time offense, the judge didn’t go as hard on me as he could have, but I still had a hefty fine to pay, and so much community service I didn’t even want to think about it. As for my job, I’d received a strict warning from the superintendent for my arrest, and I knew the principal, Mrs. Nelson, was going to keep a close eye on me, but other than that it looked like I was going to be okay.

I grabbed a slice of pizza from the box on the countertop and took a huge bite.

“Bring me one, babe?” Marissa asked from the couch, where she was flipping channels, looking for a good movie.

  “How’s this one?” she asked.

I glanced at the screen. “Is it on Lifetime?”

  “No.”

“It’s great.” I smiled and piled a few slices of the pepperoni and sausage pizza onto a plate. I brought it over to Marissa and her dog eyed it hungrily. I shook my head. “No way, Tulip. You need to watch your weight. Those stubby little legs have enough to carry around as it is.”

Marissa laughed and rubbed the dog’s back with her foot.

I went to the fridge and poured Marissa a glass of sweet tea and grabbed a soda for myself from the door before settling on the couch beside her.

  “Thanks.” She smiled.

I put my arm around her shoulders and she leaned back against my chest, pulling a fleece blanket up in over our legs.

I grabbed another slice of pizza off the plate and polished it off quickly as she sipped her tea. George the cat jumped up on the couch and curled up against my side.

  “He loves you.” Marissa laughed.

“Yeah, well, it’s hard not to,” I teased.

She raised an eyebrow at me and grinned. “I guess that’s true.” She leaned up and kissed me gently.

I wrapped my arms around her and breathed in her now familiar, apple scent and there wasn’t a place I’d rather be than sitting right there, holding her.

“Do you need me to get that?” Marissa asked when the coffee finished brewing.

I squeezed her around the waist, pulling her closer and whispered in her ear, “No, don’t move. I have everything I want.”
