I grabbed her arm and ignored her protests as I dragged her through the foyer and up the stairs to the offices. It was harder than it should have been considering I still had a fucking limp. I didn’t speak to her until I pushed through the door and locked it behind me.
“What in the fuck was that?” I asked, barely containing my fury.
“Well you shouldn’t have man handled me! No one gets away with that shit with me and you deserved it!”
“I fucking did not!”
“You did! If you don’t let go, I will hurt you...you didn’t let go, so I hurt you. Simple.” She said.
“It’s never ok to do that Harper and you know it so fuckin’ apologise!”
She made a noise in the back of her throat like a half snort/scoff, but I just glared at her until she sighed and her shoulders dropped.
Progress.
She mumbled something under her breath that I didn’t hear, so I asked her to speak louder. She did, but still not loud enough to hear her.
“Fuck sake, speak up!” I exclaimed. She jumped as if she didn’t expect me to raise my voice but I was pissed off so I didn’t care.
“I’m sorry okay! I didn’t think, I shouldn’t have done it. But why did you do that? That guy hadn’t done anything wrong and you know it! So why get him banned? Just because you want to fuck me instead?!”
She was wrong, that guy actually was a dickhead, he may not have done drugs, or not from what I knew, but he was still a dickhead. And really? She couldn’t say I didn’t warn her earlier.
She went further though.
“Why can’t you just back off? You just keep coming back for more and I just don’t get it! I’ve had enough of people telling me what to do for a fucking lifetime, now you’re trying to do it too! You have no idea what you’re up against Mason, I promise you! It’s never gonna happen!” She was almost screeching by the end of her speech but I’m clearly a sucker for punishment because I was undeterred.
“God you’re a pain in my ass! You think I don’t know exactly what I’m in for! I’ve watched and felt what Jax went through with your girl. Might have been different circumstances, but you’re both so fucked up in the head, you’re fighting what’s good for you. And make no mistake babe, you really are fucked in the head. You fuckin’ helped Jax! Who’s helping me huh? No one!...But I don’t need help with you, the answers to all my questions are written all over your face! I’m not blind, I see it all...”
Harper
I was tired of listening to his shit...more than that...I was tired of listening to his shit, that was fucking right all the time, so I cut him off.
“You think just because Jax won over Taylor, you can win me? Grow up Mase, it...is...not...going...to...happen” I spoke slowly, hoping, praying that for once he’d believe me and take the hint.
Don’t know why I bothered hoping, he’d never listened before, I pretty much knew that he wouldn’t start then.
“Sunshine, just keep pushing me away, doesn’t bother me...Well okay it bothers me that you won’t just speed up all this bullshit so we can get to the good stuff! But you won’t win anyway, and deep down you know that. Throw all the excuses at me you want. You’re my perfect girl and you were made for me, attitude included. You think I’m gonna let that go because you can’t pull yourself together enough to see it yet? I’m not. You’re already my girl, I’m just waiting for you to realise it!”
He stepped closer to me, lifted his hand and ran the backs of his fingers along my cheek. The gesture was too sweet, too nice, too...I don’t know, just too much. The lump forming in my throat grew and I fought to bury it. I despised how he affected me. I didn’t do affection, at all. He was testing me, I could feel it.
I failed the test.
He knew that too.
I knew that he knew it, because his eyes changed. They were seeing, knowing...and they scared the ever-loving shit out of me.
He knew me better than I knew myself, or at least he thought he did. He didn’t know everything though. He didn’t know that as far as I was concerned, I’d been in love with him since that first morning. He didn’t know that he owned me, mind, body and soul...and he didn’t know that I was pretty sure, if he stopped being such a bossy fuckin’ pain in my arse, he’d probably already have me...in a way.
I had no intention of telling him any of this either.
But I did want him.
Just sex. Drunk, sweaty, filthy...sex.
He must have had the same idea because he leant forward, hesitating for a moment, probably to give me chance to pull away, I wasn’t going to though, so he pressed his mouth to mine. I knew what he was trying to do, he was trying to do soft and sweet, probably thinking I’d succumb to his stupid ‘relationship’ idea. Nope. Not happening.
I edged back a touch, but sunk my teeth into his bottom lip and tugged lightly, causing him to growl against my mouth. Mmmmm I love that growl.
I released his lip and soothed the area with my tongue, his eyes were ablaze with lust and I felt the heat from his stare all the way to my core. Fucking delicious.
“Fuck me, Mase.” I whispered in the sultriest tone I could manage.
He groaned, but moved fast, retrieving his wallet from his pocket and pulling a condom out. I stole it from his hand, tore the packet open with my teeth and was about to undo his belt when I realised his trousers were already around his ankles and his cock was begging for attention in front of me.
I was desperate to lick it, suck it, taste it. Never, in all my life, had I ever wanted to do that. Not once. I refused to give in to my urges though, it was too personal. This was sex for the sake of sex and that would have just stalled my end game.
Okay so yeah, I was selfish with sex, but most men are too! Why shouldn’t I have made sure that I got mine first?
I shifted forward, right to the edge of the desk and widened my thighs, letting my dress ride up, exposing myself fully to him.
As the air hit my most intimate area, a full-body shudder hit me and I had to clench my muscles to prevent a moan. It was wanton and I guess pretty slutty, but right there, in the office of a nightclub, where hundreds of people were just a flight of stairs away...I got fucked on a desk.
And almost instantly when he pulled out, I realised I needed more, I was drunk, wasted even, but the feeling was growing for sure. I just wanted to keep him inside me.
Shit!
So I did what I do best. Denial.
I buried it, the thoughts, the feelings. Every damn time I did something stupid like that with Mason, it was getting harder and harder to keep them buried. I felt like the chains around my heart were rattling constantly with the force of my heart trying to break free.
I could hold out though. I was sure of it.
Chapter Ten
Mason
I sat watching Ruben clutch his side and bend forward, still howling after I’d told him the story of what happened Saturday night.
It was not funny. Not at all, but I think more than anything, he just enjoyed seeing me off balance. The whole thing just fucked with my head. She gets pissed off, actually gets violent, let’s me fuck her on the desk, then just leaves.
Honestly, she actually just got up and left without another word. I let her, because frankly my head was all over the show and I don’t think I could have formed more than two words at the time.
It had been nearly a week since that day and my foot still throbbed when I put weight on it. I wanted to hate her for it, but there was something there, I was sure of it. A reason she went postal on me, I was determined to find out why...just as soon as I could get her to talk to me.
See, she wouldn’t answer the phone, she wouldn’t text me back, she didn’t answer the door and even Jase hadn’t replied to me.
Not that I spoke to him much, it was more of a casual acquaintance. He was just too feminine, for a guy, and he openly checked me out when I was around, it scared me! Okay so it wasn’t just me, he checked out Jax and Ruben too, but they seemed to i
gnore it better than I did, possibly because they spent hardly any time at Harper’s place, whereas I usually spent as much time there as I could.
I’m not homophobic or anything, he just freaked me out a bit!
I sat tapping my pen on the desk, wondering why she had shut down completely, I was so sure that I’d made progress with her. Then nothing. Not a thing.
I was sidetracked for a second when my phone started to vibrate across the desk, I reached for it and answered without looking at the screen.
“Hello?”
“Mase, you busy?” It was Jax.
“Nah, I’m at the club, but not actually doing anything why?” I asked
“Fancy comin’ out for a bit? Me n Tay were thinkin’ of doing something like, well, ok, we couldn’t decide on anything to do so we thought we’d ask you!”
“Hmm, like what? What sort of thing were you thinking?”
“Well, something fun, I dunno, bowling?” He suggested.
I scoffed. Bowling? That’s boring.
“What about Laserquest?”
“We’re adults!” He said.
“Yeah, but it’s fun and we can all go!”
He was right, we were adults, but he didn’t know in the space of about thirty seconds, I knew I could use this to my advantage.
“Get Tay to call Harper and Jase, I’m with Ruben so I’ll get him on board, and we’ll meet there in half an hour yeah?” I added. I heard his audible sigh on the other end but he agreed.
Before he hung up, I added, “Oh, and tell Tay that Harper can’t know I’m going okay?”
He didn’t answer, he chuckled and hung up.
Cocky bastard seems to have forgotten quite quickly how hard it was for him. Maybe it’s in our blood, to fight for the woman we want.
Hmm, I might be right there.
Harper
Ten Minutes Later...
“Babe, can you be ready in ten minutes?” Tay asked through the phone.
“Depends what for.” I answered. I really wasn’t in the mood to go out, I was still in my onesie and had a tub of chocolate ice-cream in my lap. Comfort eating, not a habit, also not exactly rare.
“We wanna go Laserquest!” She screeched.
I couldn’t help but laugh, she sounded like a kid on Christmas morning. The familiar flutters in my heart appeared and I relished them.
For someone who was, in personality, exactly the same, she was also entirely different. So happy, so open, so free. It was refreshing.
Seeing as I obviously wasn’t getting to spend as much time with her as usual by that point because she was in the throes of new romance, I jumped at the chance to spend time with her.
“You’re such a child! But yeah I’m in!”
“Good, Jax will come pick you up in about twenty minutes ok?”
I agreed and she hung up. I stood to look in the mirror and winced. Shit, I did not look good. My hair looked slightly greasy from not being washed in three days, my skin was blotchy and like I said, I wasn’t even dressed.
Now, I’m no miracle worker, although I like to think I am! But the fact that I managed to look half-way decent in less than twenty minutes was probably as close to a miracle as I was ever going to get.
I knew I didn’t have time to wash my hair, so sprinkled talcum powder on my roots to hide the grease, smeared my face with foundation and just added eye-liner and mascara. Yeah, so I was having a down day, or a down week in all honesty. I just couldn’t seem to pull myself together.
I was hoping that the random trip to play kids games would cheer me up slightly, or at least keep me occupied for a couple of hours.
Laserquest was fun, it always had been. Adults separated into two teams, chasing each other with laser guns, shooting at each other to see who can score the highest. What’s not to like?!
Anything to get me out of the house for a little while anyway. I just threw on my denim cut-off shorts, that were probably a little too short, but if my hair and face couldn’t look good, at least my clothes could! I wore a cream vest top, with a loose fitting see through shirt over the top, black tights and then I threw on my fake leather jacket. I figured it would be best to wear flat shoes as we would be running around...a lot. So I grabbed a pair of black lace-up pumps to complete the ensemble. Checking myself in the mirror before I left, I twisted my lips thinking I really should have made more effort, but there just wasn’t time, so I locked the front door and waited at the curb for my lift.
I checked my watch a few minutes later, he was late, I was fairly sure Jax was never late. I glanced around wondering if Tay definitely did say he’d come and get me and I wasn’t supposed to meet him somewhere, but I was sure I was supposed to wait outside.
I stood on the curb, checking both ways, still not seeing him, when the car right next to me blasted the horn so loud that I screamed, jumped in the air and covered my ears with my hands.
What the fuck? Why would anyone do that?
Well, let me tell you why, because that motherfucker was laughing his ass off in the driver’s seat. I stomped to the passenger side door, yanked it open but I didn’t get in.
“What are you doing here Mason? I’m going out.”
“I know, I’m your lift.” He declared, with a smirk across his face that said he knew exactly what my reaction was going to be.
I wanted to scream and stomp my foot like a fucking primadonna girl. I couldn’t believe they’d set me up. Fair enough, I guess it was payback, because I did it to Taylor, but that worked out how I expected it to. Nothing good could come of her doing this to me.
Damn that girl!
I didn’t react though, I was tired of him predicting my every move. He usually knew my actions before I had even thought about doing them.
No more.
I smiled what was clearly a fake smile and slid into the seat.
“Cool, who’s actually coming?” I asked, feigning a blasé tone.
He blinked once, then his brow furrowed slightly before he smoothed his face and shrugged, muttering, “The usual.”
Ha! I loved that he didn’t get a huge scene from me, he clearly didn’t like that I’d shocked him.
We barely spoke on the way there, casual, ‘what have you been up to?’ and ‘You look nice...yeah so do you’...was about the extent of conversation.
It was odd for Mason, he talked a lot, he had a lot to say really, but it was never boring, he knew like... everything!
He swung into the car park outside Laserquest and I jumped out, ignored him and strolled to the front doors, where everyone else was waiting.
Laserquest teams were usually up to eight on each side, but seeing as there was only me, Mase, Tay, Jax, Ruben and Jase, they were going to be really small teams. I didn’t care though, I figured it would be easier with less players. Damn, was I wrong. Those fuckers had us cornered from the start.
At the desk, we were told to separate into two teams of three, we all just stared at each other wondering how we were going to decide when Mason piped up.
“Why don’t we just do men against women? That’s fair right?”
Ruben made a choking sound like he was trying to prevent a laugh, Jax was biting his bottom lip, probably doing the same and me and Taylor just shared a look that said we knew exactly how this was going to go down. We were not wrong.
Jase stood taller, squared his shoulders and threw his hands on his hips. Mason winced as he finally clued in to what he said, but I wasn’t worried, and neither was Taylor, we were both trying to withhold our giggles.
“So who’s the third woman then hey Mason?” Jase asked.
“I...ahh...I didn’t...What I meant was...” He stammered, looking completely flustered. Oh god, it was just too funny. He glanced at Ruben, then Jax, then finally his eyes swung to me, pleading with me to help him out.
Not a chance in hell.
“If you’re insinuating what I think you are, would you like to compare dick length?” Jase suggested and Mason’s face froze.
/> Well, I couldn’t help it after that, I giggled, then slapped my hand across my mouth to hold it back, Jase wasn’t finished with him yet.
“No?” He began... “Well, maybe you’d like to explain what makes you more of a man than me? Huh?”
It was awful, hilarious, but awful, Mason looked like he was totally lost. Flicking his eyes from one person to the next. If only he knew that Jase was completely toying with him. Poor boy.
“I didn’t mean it Jase, it was just, what I meant was, you three” He pointed to me, Jase and Tay then continued... “And us three.” Pointing to just himself, but it was clear who he meant.
“So then why is that guys against girls?” Jase asked, raising an eyebrow. He really wasn’t going to let him off easily. Mason sighed and his shoulders dropped slightly.
“Okay, I just figured, well, ya know? You’re kind of feminine! It was just a figure of speech, I wasn’t being literal, so can we please just forget it and go in?” His eyes were still wary and I swear my lip ached from biting down on it so as not to laugh but it broke from my mouth when Jase shrugged and spoke again.
“Sure thing, come on then ladies.” And he linked his arm through mine and Tay’s, then flicked his head to side as if he was throwing his imaginary hair over his shoulder and strutted towards the entrance.
I stole a glance over my shoulder to see Jax and Ruben laughed and slapping Mase on the back, but he seemed frozen to the spot, trying to comprehend what just happened.
Lesson: Never take on Jase, he’s the queen of drama!
We strapped our target packs over our chests, grabbed our guns and had to listen to a five minute, boring, health and safety lecture, then we were allowed in.
We entered through separate doors and for my team, our plan was to shoot as fast and as regularly as possible. We figured we were bound to hit one of them at least.
Ahh.
Maybe not.
Mason
“So you go left, I’ll go right, and Ruben, you go straight up the ramp. Don’t shoot too often because you’ll have to recharge and that will give ‘em chance to shoot you. Keep your back to the wall as often as you can, and keep your eyes peeled. They’re not quiet, so follow their voices, but you stay silent okay?” Jax advised.
