Tarrin quirked a brow, watching her. “You will not wash our lovemaking from your body?”

She shook her head, with a large grin and replied, “Let them scent your vampire seed from within my body...”

Tarrin blurred to her, dwarfing her, even though she stood nearly six feet in height. He cradled her face he'd just kissed, pecking her again and again, nuzzling his face against her temple. “How I love you, breeder.”

Lucia moved her lips against his neck. “And I, you.”

He took her hand and kissed the underside of her wrist where her blood flowed, the most intimate of gestures before dropping it so she might dress.

Tarrin watched her select her wardrobe, the ghost of a smile never leaving his lips.

  Or hers.

  *

Tarrin and Lucia strode to the interior chamber of the newest place they called coven; it was little more than the bowels of the earth. While the rest of the Druid nest dwelt above ground, where the Druid Breeder mates lived handsomely, the meetings all took place beneath the earth.

Guarded and without the aid of sunlight.

Tarrin and Kier did not always agree on things, but on this they had. It was safer to plot subterfuge or anything else in an area that was wholly secret in its location. It had the added advantage of being secure from sunlight. Though some of the Druids could move in sunlight, it was little more than shadow walking, in Tarrin's opinion.

He came upon the King and Queen, their heads pressed together, one light and one dark. Their gazes moved to his as he and Lucia made their entrance.

Kier's nostrils flared at the subtle remnant of their sexual encounter. A brief smile revealed his fangs and then was gone.

Kier nodded his acknowledgment of Tarrin and the moment their eyes met, Tarrin knew a challenge had come to the doorstep of their coven.

“What say you?” Tarrin asked, folding his arms across the dark skin of a chest heavily muscled and scarred from an extended lifetime's worth millennia of battle.

Lucia circled around the low table that held papers and other items of interest: mainly maps of other covens, hostile and otherwise. She knew that their presence had been summoned here for more than just a chat.

Kier sighed, raking a hand over his longish hair bound at the nape of his neck. The soft candles glowed with a low light and gave off a fragrance that aided Druid magic.

“Our scouts have come across a problem with insurrection.” Tarrin and Lucia watched as Holly bit her lip and her mate paced the length of the room, his head almost brushing the low ceiling.

“The Mer have picked up Constantine, as you know.” His eyes slid over to Lucia and she held his gaze with difficulty. Con had been of Exotic blood and she'd hoped to save another of the precious and rare lineage. Essentially, Exotics were vampires who had psychic talents, not the least of which was telepathy and precognitive abilities. Kier went on, “Disturbing tales of demons have been mentioned as well, and a horrific mixed-blood demon angel.”

Lucia gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. Sacrilege, she thought with horror. To have both demon and angel blood was to live within a contrary nature. It was an abomination to be sure.

Kier nodded at the expression on her face. “That is our belief as well.”

“What else are we to believe?” Tarrin asked with an obvious tone of certainty. “In all my centuries, I have not encountered a mixed-blood of the celestial realm and Hades. He stared intently at Kier. “You are certain?”

Kier dipped his chin. “Aye. Further, he revealed himself before his demon kin while protecting a demon breeder.”

This made Tarrin sit up straighter in his chair. “How does that affect us here?”

  “Constantine has killed Desmond.”

Lucia hung her head, the guilt over forcing Tarrin to release Constantine spearing her.

Tarrin put a hand on her nape. “Do not, my dark dove. Self-recrimination will not bring our ally back.”

“Why?” she asked mournfully. Why had he killed their ally? Couldn't he just... meld into a group peacefully. Of course, Lucia already knew the answer to that.

“He is not like the other vampire,” Kier said. “But the product of former abuses that are unparallelled to any I've ever seen.”

Holly dismissed that, saying, “The why of this isn't important. He got a second chance and blew it all to hell. That's how I see it.” She shrugged as if to say, that was that.

Lucia rolled her lip into her mouth, lightly biting it with her teeth.

“I am sorry, Lucia.” Tarrin shrugged and added, “you tried to protect him.”

“Yet, there is no protecting him from himself,” she murmured in a quiet voice.

Tarrin and Kier nodded. “We have to retaliate. Nothing short of the mongrel's life will do. It will be seen as indifference if we do not expunge his life from the surface of this earth.”

Lucia nodded, then threw out a last hope, “What if we find that he is somehow innocent of wrongdoing? That perhaps there was a sound reason that he murdered the Mer?”

Holly snorted and Lucia gave her a long-suffering look. Barely more than an infant in vampiric terms, Holly could not be expected to think things through to the final degree in the way of a more mature Druid.

“Then we would abstain,” Kier paused, giving her a weighted look. “However, I will not hesitate to slay him myself if there is even a breath of truth to the Mer's claims.”

“Tell them the worst part of it, Kier,” Holly instructed softly.

Kier looked at his ancient and most trusted advisor, a pure Druid Exotic. “He has killed Desmond, their prince and taken their princess.”

The tension in the room swelled with this informative tidbit, becoming nearly unbearable in its duration. “Wonderful,” Lucia said.

“Not really,” Kier observed in a droll voice.

Lucia's gaze flicked to his. “It does look quite damning.”

“Because it is,” Holly said, rolling her bluish-green eyes.

Lucia silently stewed at Holly's insistence on assuming that the fault lay with Constantine. Of course, Lucia realized she was loathe to kill another of Exotic blood... and whatever else Con was, for he was many things.

Tarrin leaned back in contemplative silence with his arms crossed. “I am not keen on the demon presence.” Kier nodded in agreement.

  “Nor I,” he concurred.

“They do not usually cross our paths while on a mission to find their females....” Tarrin began.

“I have seen it,” Lucia interrupted quickly, her ocean-colored eyes flashing with her ready temper.

“It is not regular,” Tarrin said.

  “Aye,” Kier agreed.

  “What?” Holly asked the trio.

Kier sighed. “Sometimes, though rarely, there be a Druid female who possesses enough of the demon blood that they will hunt her...”

“What the fuck?” Holly asked them. “You mean to tell me that there are Druids out there who are unsuspecting targets?”

“My breeder...” Kier began, trying to soothe the hot-tamale that was his mate and Queen.

“No,” Holly said, pointing an accusing finger at Kier. “Don't 'my breeder' me!” she ordered the almost seven foot tall wall of muscle who was her king. “I am not buying that!”

“We cannot save them all, my Queen,” Tarrin stated calmly and Holly's eyes narrowed on him.

“Well, that's great!” she said angrily. Then it was her turn to pace. Finally, she whirled around and said, “We have not worked, what? Over two years to assemble a vampire contingent of some magnitude to just... let these demon jerk-offs have our girls?”

Tarrin could not help the short bark of laughter that exited his full lips and Lucia elbowed him. That only made his mirth grow.

“It's not funny, you... asshat!” Holly yelled at the huge Druid, the whites of his eyes the only part of him that could be easily seen in the dim of where they met.

Kier grabbed his mate and held her against the front
of him. “Ah!” she fumed.

“We do wish to find these females but you of all people know how much more difficult it is to find a Druid of mixed blood.”

Holly nodded as tears of frustration fell from her eyes. Her small fists clenched and Kier dropped his arms, turning her gently and staring deeply into her eyes. He covered those fists with his massive hands, engulfing hers easily, encasing her anger. “We can but try, my breeder.” His voice was as soothing as honey, touching her deeply and Holly brushed the tears away with an angry swipe.

“I know.” Her eyes bored into his. “I don't want one of our females falling between the cracks for those creepy hell-guys to scoop up.”

Lucia said, “They are debased in a most miserable way.”

Tarrin looked at Lucia, that last comment would cause their queen to become more inflamed, not less.

  Bullocks, Tarrin thought.

“I will help to find those wayward breeders, my Queen,” Lucia said.

“The hell!” Tarrin raged, standing so quickly that the chair toppled to the floor behind him, clattering so loudly that it made Holly jump.

Lucia turned smoothly, placing a hand that burnt him to his very marrow against the broad smooth skin of his chest. She gently shook her head. “Yes, I will.” Her eyes met his. “I am a warrior and cannot let those unprotected females wander loose, ripe for the picking, Tarrin.”

Tarrin hung his head, massive hands planted on his hips. Intellectually he understood her determination; yet how could he let this precious female out of his sight? His heart beat for her, his soul pined for her nearness.

His eyes rose and locked with hers. “Then we go together because I cannot take my next breath without you in it.”

She nodded. It as simple, for Lucia felt the same.

“It is settled then,” Kier said. “It is obvious to the older vampires who remain that demons leave their hot haven only when their females grow scarce.” He paused as the three sets of eyes that he valued most waited for his final comment. “Further, to keep an alliance forged over centuries, we must make this right in the eyes of the Mer King and Queen. Constantine has stolen their daughter and killed their son. He must be punished. Our release of him resulted in this misfortune and they will hold our coven responsible.”

“But why did he decide to kill and kidnap the royalty of the Mer?” Lucia asked into the stillness of the meeting.

“I do not know,” Kier admitted, palming his chin.

“We intend to find out,” Tarrin declared.

He nodded. “Who is our liaison for the Mer now that Desmond is dead?” Tarrin asked.

  “Madden,” Kier responded.

Tarrin nodded, then thought of something. “Was he not the Mer...”

“Who made out with Aubree and caused Brandon's blood of the Mer to surface? Yeah, that's him,” Holly answered with enough sarcasm to paint the walls.

“Oh how the web of complication grows tighter and more intricate,” Kier commented.

Lucia and Tarrin began to walk away but it was Tarrin who turned back. “This might repair the alliance...”

“Or begin a war?” Kier's brows rose.

  “Exactly,” Lucia agreed.

The advising pair to the queen and king of vampire began to assemble Druid warriors to fight alongside them. They hoped there would be no need for a battle.

In Tarrin's experience, there always was.

  Chapter 2

Constantine ran, blurring with the pissed off Mer at his side. She ought to be kissing his feet in thanks that he'd saved her from the merciless demons. They would have used her for sport, tearing into her virginity like starved prisoners-of-war before a feast of epic proportions.

Con did not look at why it was important that he save her. She was full of herself and not useful for anything but her ability to fuck, as far as Con saw things. Nevertheless, his dollop of Druid blood had utterly prevented him from throwing her to the wolves.

  Or demons, as it were.

He gave a short cackle, his guts still in the process of healing from the treatment by that demon wretch, Brolach. Yet, for all Brolach's cleverness he'd revealed himself to save a breeder. The pussy. Constantine could never imagine a time when he would be willing to reveal such a monumental secret simply to protect a female.

  No.

He jerked Ember to him ruthlessly and she cried out, “Please, you are hurting me, vampire!” Her platinum hair became bound up in their twined hands and he pulled her against him by the silken strands, the pearl-like beads woven cleverly into the luxury of it. The priceless seed pods of their healing plants were hidden in plain sight.

Her blazing garnet eyes caught his and her terror was clear. Con shook her, his hardened cock pressing between her legs and aching to take her but he held back as she swallowed hard.

“You saved me from the demons only to rape me now?” she asked tremulously. He looked down at her hand wrapped against his forearm, the luminescent skin softly shining against his pale vampire flesh. He sucked in a breath and heaved her away from himself.

Ember stumbled backward and righted herself, just barely. They faced each other, both their chests heaving.

“No,” Constantine said shortly. “I will not rape you. It was your brother that would have the whole of the Mer take a turn at your mermaid twat, not I,” Con stated with ruthless clarity. His need to exonerate himself superseded any need to spare her feelings.

Constantine watched as her delicate face crumpled. She put a shaky wrist to her mouth to muffle the sobs.

It squeezed something inside Constantine to hear her sadness.

  He hated her weakness.

He hated the need that she'd awoken inside him to fuck her. Protect her.

It made him loathe her and himself. He turned away from her soft sobbing in disgust.

A noise made him perk up his ears. He blurred to Ember, their spat and fucking emotional bullshit forgotten. He covered her soft mouth and closed his eyes against the desire to kiss it as a familiar smell wound its way into his senses.

  Druid.

  Many of the enemy.

He put Ember behind his body as the first of the unexpected vampires came upon him.

But for once, Con had been quite wrong. For it was not Druids but those of the Faction. His old cohorts had found him.

Constantine was woefully outnumbered and could no longer lie to himself.

He had feelings for the Mer breeder. Certainly he could feel her fear as an intense heat blazing behind him.

He would die before he let anyone sink their meat into a pussy he owned.

  And he would own it.

  Soon.

  *

Tarrin could not wait to taste his mate's secret flesh against his tongue and she did not hold back, spreading her legs to give him better access. He dove between them without reservation.

Their fevered lovemaking had an edge to it that Tarrin could not name. Something critical had changed between them. They were now collaborators in war. And lovers of each other.

Lucia groaned as Tarrin laid a large palm on one of her full breasts, his other finger pressing deeply inside her channel as he pumped inside her pussy. When his lips kissed the side of her opening and the friction from his finger became too much she cried out. A most impressive orgasm hovered just out of reach.

Tarrin felt his lady grow moist as he filled her with a single digit and then added a second finger. Her hips bucked in response, his hand falling away from the luscious globe of her breast and straying underneath the small of her back to lift her hips closer to his seeking mouth.

He ruthlessly sucked at her outer lips, laving and lapping until her pussy clenched down on his fingers. Tarrin took his mouth away and sucked in the nub of her clit. As he did, he increased his speed inside her. When her orgasm was on the point of bursting the dam he moved his mouth away from her honeyed sweetness and put his huge cock where it had been.

Lucia gazed down the line of her body, her hips lif
ted and held in hands so large they cupped the entire breadth of her ass. She felt that delicious orgasm lying in wait, and with a small smile, she felt the huge tip of his dick breach her entrance in a hot slide of flesh that married him to her deep wetness, kissing the entrance of her womb then withdrawing with excruciating slowness.

Lucia cried out as he slowly entered her again, her lips moving without sound as he buried the first of twelve inches inside her deep Druid cavity.

When Tarrin's length finally met the end of her once more, the floodgates of her release he'd held in check burst and the orgasm shattered Lucia. Her hips jammed against him harder and her womb opened to bring him where only a Druid female could.

Tarrin sunk into his mate's womb, his balls riding behind his cock as they sealed the first entrance of Lucia and his cock moved in and out, the lock of his nuts plugging her again and again as his dick sought even deeper entry and her pussy milked him of seed he didn't know he had.

When they became tightly wound within each other and her Druid womb tore a third release from his prick Tarrin cried out, the extraction of his seed felt almost painful.

They fell together on their soft shared bed and still buried inside her, Tarrin pulled Lucia into the shadow of his body, kissing her temple while his cock throbbed the last of his essence inside her deepest cavity.

He could not bear to see her fight.

Tarrin could not bear not to be with her when she did.

They lay together like that for a time, each thinking thoughts about the other that they dared not utter.

  Chapter 3

Constantine took a head count, his undead heart speeding to an unheard of pace.

He must be cleverer than they.

A difficult and time consuming quest considering the Faction were the most cunning and wily of the supernaturals.

“Constantine,” the head vampire of the mercurial group of renegade vampires greeted him.

What, Con thought, is this flavor of falseness? It must be a ruse.

  Con crouched, hissing.

“Do not... we are not here to war,” the one said as Con's talons burst from his fingertips.
