Finding Spencer
Page 7
Things were going too perfect, and I didn’t need some rich cougar causing it to come crashing down. Hell, when Christy picked up her stuff last week, Becca was there to make sure she didn’t trap me into anything. I went around my condo, making sure I got all her shit, and I didn’t even say a word to her. I wanted nothing to do with any woman but Spencer.
CHAPTER TEN
Jason and I needed to head to Seattle to check out the building we were planning on buying. Everything was in order; we just wanted to make sure the owner hadn’t destroyed anything and that we really wanted to purchase this particular gym.
Like most nights, Spencer and I had amazing sex, but this time was different. She did my favorite position, and now, not only would I dream about her, but I would dream about her riding me with her back and ass bouncing in my line of sight. I fucking loved Reverse Cowgirl!
“Get your head out of Spencer’s pussy and in the game,” Jason said, bringing me out of my thoughts.
“What?” I asked, looking over at him. He was sitting next to me in the window seat of the plane while I sat in the aisle in First Class.
“I know you’re pussy whipped, but you need to focus. I don’t want this guy to think he can take us for a ride.”
“Dude, I will. I’ve never let us down before.”
“You’ve never been in love before.”
“I…”
In love? Was I?
“Since I’ve known you, you’ve never acted this way about anyone before. You’re in love.”
I knew Spencer consumed my every thought. I knew I wanted to spend every waking minute with her, and I knew that if she walked out of my life, I would be crushed.
“You’re right,” I said.
“Right. So, don’t fuck this up. Let’s hardball them, and then tonight you and Spencer can have phone sex while I get drunk in the bar at the hotel.”
Jason’s plan for getting me to stop thinking of Spencer backfired. I was now thinking about how I loved her.
*~*~*
Jason didn’t need to worry about me keeping my head in the game; the owner never showed. The gym we were trying to buy was from a dude who was ready to file bankruptcy. Our Broker, Paul, was offering this guy a way out so he wouldn’t have to file, and then he had the nerve not to show.
We checked out the inside, pretending to be interested in joining the gym and seeing what all we needed to do to the place. After checking it out for about an hour or so and realizing the owner wasn’t coming, we checked into our hotel.
When we got to our room, I got a text from Spencer, and just like every other time, it put a smile on my face:
Spencer: Hey Baby! How was your day?
Me: Hey Babe, it was alright. The owner was supposed to meet with us, but he flaked. Pretty much a wasted trip, but we saw the place and the good news is that it isn’t a dump! How was your day?
“Let me guess. Spencer?” Jason asked.
“Fuck off. Go call Becca.”
“I don’t need to talk to her every free second I have.”
“You did when you first started dating in college. I remember you following her around campus.”
Spencer: It was okay. I think the article about your gym is almost ready to be put on the website! My boss thinks by our December newsletter that is emailed out. :)
“Yeah, right!” Jason laughed and fell onto one of the beds.
“It’s true. You were like a puppy. She couldn’t resist taking you home.”
“That was part of the plan.” He laughed again.
I just smiled at him. He had no room to talk. “Spencer said that the article about the gym should go out in December.”
“Nice! I’m hungry. Text and walk.”
Me: Awesome! Jason and I are about to head out for dinner. Are you still going out with Ryan?
“Give me a few more minutes. I have to piss.”
Spencer: Yeah, I am getting ready now.
“Well piss and text at the same time then,” he said.
Me: Cool, call me tonight when you get home.
Spencer: Okay. It’s going to be kind of weird falling asleep without you next to me tonight.
Me: I was thinking the same thing! I promise to make it up to you tomorrow night and this weekend since it is your birthday!
Spencer: Can’t wait! I’ll call you later.
Me: Oh Spence…
Spencer: Yeah?
Me: Last night was amazing!
Spencer: Just last night?
Me: You know what I mean! I might need to go out of town more often if that is the sex I get the night before!
Spencer: Ha! Just didn’t want you to forget me.
Me: You’re not that easy to forget.
Spencer: Good! Have fun with Jason.
Me: Have fun with Ryan, and be safe, but I am looking forward to drunk texts! :)
Spencer: I’ll see what I can do!
Now I was hard…again.
*~*~*
The following day, I picked Spencer up for dinner before Becca’s show. I couldn’t wait to see her, and when I did, damn it if my dick didn’t make me uncomfortable in my jeans as I caught sight of her in a dress. I tried to contain myself. I could get through dinner and Becca’s show. It couldn’t be more than a few more hours.
“So last night I got an interesting text from a number I didn’t recognize,” Spencer said, after taking a bite of her burger.
“Okay?”
Spencer handed me her phone. “I’ll let you read it.”
Unknown: You should ask Brandon where he really is bitch!
I saw red. That fucking bitch. How the fuck did she get Spencer’s number?
“You know who it is from?”
“Yeah, it’s from my ex, Christy. Babe, I am so sorry about that. She has no right texting you.”
“How did she get my number?”
“I have no idea... The only thing I can think of is when she came by a few weeks ago to pick up some things that she had left at my place before we broke up. I may have left my cell on the kitchen table, and I left the room for a minute while I was getting her stuff. But Babe, you know I was really in Seattle, right?”
“Yes, of course! But I just don’t understand why she would text me that.”
“She’s just trying to stir up trouble between you and me, because she knows that she and I are over. I promise you that Jason and I were really in Seattle. I can even show you my boarding pass.”
I’m going to kill Christy!
“Babe, I believe you. It’s just odd that it came while you were out of town.”
Sighing, I said, “I really didn’t want to drag you into my drama. But since she’s managed to involve you and now has your phone number, you deserve to know. Christy has been calling and harassing me every day since we broke up. Aside from the time when she came to pick up her things, I’ve pretty much been ignoring her calls. There have been a few times when I did answer because I was so angry with her. I have told her repeatedly to leave me alone and stop calling. I’ve tried being straight with her and telling her I’ve moved on and met someone else I am crazy about, but she just won’t stop.”
“I’m so sorry you’ve been going through such a rough time. I wish you had just told me to begin with.”
“Like I said, I was trying not to drag you into my drama. I’ve been thinking about changing my number, but it is such a hassle and I really didn’t want to burden you with all of this. I never thought she would go after you and try to break us up.”
“I may have overheard you talking to her last Saturday morning.”
“You did?”
“Yeah, but I didn’t know she was harassing you. I still don’t understand how she got my number though. Even if she got a hold of your phone, how does she even know about me?”
“All she had to do was read our texts and she could have figured that out. The only person I text more is probably Jason, but our texts are definitely of a different nature.”
*~*~*
How was Spencer not freaking out more about Christy still contacting me? If it were her ex-boyfriend harassing her, I would be livid. She had nothing to worry about, but I’d expected her to act differently about Christy wanting to break us up. I was relieved it wasn’t working. If Christy were to break us up, I would file the restraining order so fast that her head would spin.
I was starting to loathe the woman. I was almost at my breaking point.
After dinner, we went to Becca’s show. I was so proud of her. I knew how much she wanted to be a photographer and sell her photographs. She had a natural talent. When we arrived, Ryan was outside with her on again boyfriend, Max. I didn’t know the whole story other than that they had worked out their problems.
Ryan was actually smiling. It was the first time I’d seen a genuine smile on her face since Spencer and I started to date.
After we greeted each other, we walked inside, and I looked around for Jason and Becca. I spotted them, chatting with people I didn’t know. Jason spotted me as we walked in, and we gave each other a nod. He would tell Becca we were there, and I didn’t want to interrupt them, especially if Becca was trying to sell a photo.
“Want some champagne?” I asked Spencer.
“Yes, please.”
“Max, want to grab some glasses with me?”
“Sure.”
I didn’t know what to make of Max. He seemed cool. Whatever was up with him and Ryan was none of my business.
“I know this is going to sound weird, but thank you for breaking up with Ryan,” I said.
His eyebrows scrunched, and he looked at me like I had grown two heads. “What?”
“Sorry, that didn’t come out right. If you had never broken up with Ryan, I’m not sure I would have ever gotten to date Spencer.”
“I don’t understand how they are connected,” he said as we each held up two fingers for the bartender.
“Vegas was where I officially met Spencer.”
“Oh. I didn’t know they went to Vegas.”
The bartender handed us each two glasses of champagne as my eyes grew wide and I swallowed hard. I didn’t realize he didn’t know they went to Vegas.
“Oh yeah. Two weekends ago.”
“A week after Ryan and I broke up…”
“Yeah, but from what I saw, she didn’t hook up with anyone.” I was referring to Ryan, but then I got to wondering if Spencer had hooked up with anyone.
“How would you know? Were you with them the whole time?”
“No, but I did see them Friday and Saturday night. They were just together…not with any guys.”
“Except you.”
“Not exactly.” We turned to go back to the girls. “I saw them at night—once at a club where Ryan was only dancing with Spencer and then Saturday they came into the High Roller room I was in.”
“High Roller room?”
“Yeah, Spencer played. I took her money.”
Max laughed. I should feel bad about it. “Well, even if you’re wrong, we weren’t together.”
“I know. But I can guarantee she only thought about you. These last few weeks, all I’ve seen her do is mope around her house.”
We were getting close to the girls, and somehow I needed to convince Max that Ryan didn’t do anything. I felt bad for bringing up Vegas, but I didn’t know he didn’t know. Before I could try to pull my foot out of my mouth completely, Max eased my worries.
“Yeah, I was an idiot. Tomorrow night, I’m making it up to her after we get back from Santa Cruz—or while we are in Santa Cruz. Depends on what we are doing for Spencer’s birthday. I don’t want to ruin it, but I’m proposing tomorrow.”
I guess it sometimes requires a woman walking out of your life to realize she’s the one you’re meant to be with. I would never let Spencer walk out. I’d fallen in love with her, and I didn’t do love.
“Congrats, man,” I said as we clinked our glasses together before walking up to the girls.
“I can't wait to get you home and out of that dress. I've been staring at your legs all night,” I said, whispering in Spencer’s ear.
Whispering back in my ear, she replied, “I can't imagine what would happen if you were gone for two nights, Mr. Montgomery.”
“If that were to ever happen, we wouldn't be waiting until after whatever event we are at before I tear off your clothes. We would probably need to skip dinner,” I said, then kissed her cheek and pinched her butt.
We continued looking at Becca’s work, finally saying hello to the Taylors once Becca had a free moment. Everyone was clearing out. Even though I wanted to go bury my cock into Spencer’s pussy, because her legs were driving me nuts, we stayed to support my friends—our friends. Jason and Becca both liked Spencer and she liked them. I couldn’t say that about most of the girls I dated.
We all exited the gallery and waited for Becca to lock up so we could all go for drinks together when I saw Christy standing against a light post a few feet from the gallery. She glanced our way and immediately started walking towards us. The sight of her and knowing that she was not only harassing me but Spencer as well set my blood on fire. I saw red.
I wasn’t usually a man to lose my shit, but the more she pressed, the more she was breaking me down—and not in a good way.
“What the hell, Christy?” I snapped. I tried to keep my emotions in check. I didn’t want Spencer thinking I was an asshole, but fuck if I didn’t want to get in Christy’s face and yell at her until she left.
“I need to talk to you,” she said.
Before I knew it, I had let go of Spencer’s hand and was in Christy’s face. “Look, this is neither the time nor the place to have this conversation. I have told you hundreds of times that I don’t want to speak with you. Leave me alone, or I will file a restraining order…and stop harassing Spencer, too!”
I turned to go back to Spencer when Christy spoke and made me stop dead in my tracks.
“I’m pregnant!”
“Pregnant? Did she just say pregnant?” I heard Ryan whisper to Spencer.
“Fuck!” Spencer said, and Becca gasped.
“And I care because?” I said through gritted teeth, turning slightly back to her.
“Because it’s your baby!”
“Oh hell no!” Jason shouted.
My world was starting to crash around me. It was like slow motion. Christy was pregnant with my baby. How was that possible?
I looked at Spencer, her eyes glued on Christy when she started to talk to Ryan without turning to her. “Ryan…”
“Yeah?” Ryan asked, not looking away from Christy either.
I was trying to read Spencer’s face. It was blank, and I didn’t know what to do.
“Pinch me,” Spencer said.
I looked to Ryan. “What?” she asked, finally looking away from Christy and at Spencer.
“Ryan, you need to pinch me. Like right now. Please wake me up! This can't be happening!” Spencer shouted.
“What do you mean you’re pregnant with my baby? We broke up weeks ago!” I was shouting. I didn’t care. This wasn’t happening. I was with Spencer. This was a dream; I just needed to wake up.
“I’m six weeks pregnant.”
“That’s not possible.”
My heart hurt. My heart was breaking, and my life was ending. How could two words tear my life apart in less than a minute? This wasn’t possible. The more Christy spoke, the more I wanted to wake up. I wanted to wake up in bed with Spencer and tug her close to me, catching my breath as I realized it was just a dream.
But I wasn’t waking up.
“I poked holes in all the condoms!”
“What the hell, Christy! Are you serious? That is some seriously messed up shit. Are you fucking crazy?” I started to pace. I didn’t know what else to do. Spencer wasn’t running, yet, but I had a feeling she would. We hadn’t been together that long and who would want this baggage, especially when it was attached to Christy?
“I knew I didn't like you fo
r a reason,” Jason hissed.
“Christy, you are at my place of employment, and before you cause a bigger scene, you need to leave. You and Brandon need to discuss this in private,” Becca said as she stepped between me and Christy.
I silently thanked Becca. I couldn’t let Spencer see any more of this. The look on her face was breaking my heart even more. She just stood there, watching us, and I just wanted to wrap her in my arms and tell her it wasn’t true.
“Babe…” I said getting in front of Spencer—eye level with her. “Ryan and Max are going to take you home. I will be there after I talk to Christy and straighten this shit out.” I looked to Max, and he nodded to me. I kissed Spencer lightly, fearing it would be the last time.
CHAPTER ELEVEN
There was no way I was going to be alone with Christy. I didn’t know what she was planning, but I was going to let my friends have my back. After Spencer, Ryan and Max drove away, I turned to Becca.
“Can we please talk inside?”
“Yeah, there’s a small break room in the back.”
“You’re both coming, too. I don’t want to be alone with her,” I said as Becca slipped the key in the lock.
Christy followed us in silence. I needed alcohol, but the bartender didn’t leave any behind.
“How do I know it’s mine?” I hissed as soon as we got into the small room with a four-top round table in the center. We all sat around it, my two friends on either side of me and Christy across from me.
“I love you. I haven’t been with anyone else.” A tear rolled down Christy’s face.
“Are you serious, you poked holes in the condoms?” Jason asked.
“Yes,” Christy said, muttering under her breath.
“Why would you do such a thing?” Becca asked.
I wanted to know, too. She was crazier than I thought.
“Because I knew that he was going to leave me. He worked so much, was cheating on me…”
“I never cheated on you!” I growled.
“I just want to be with you. I want to be with you forever,” Christy said, looking at me as more tears rolled down her face.
Usually I didn’t like when women cried, but this…this was insane. I didn’t care if she was hurting. She was destroying me. Destroying my relationship with Spencer.
