Fuck, my arm was burnin’ like hell. I almost forgot it was hurt when I was tryna get away from these niggas. Now I was feelin’ it. Whatever, though, I needed to get on and find some shit so I could get the fuck up out of here. Last thing I need are some other niggas swattin’ through here and finishing me off. I’m sure these dudes ain’t dumbasses, I’m sure they called in some help or somethin’ or let someone know what the fuck was goin’ down up at this bitch’s house so I needed to move fast.

I ripped off a piece of the bottom of my shirt and used it to stop the blood flowing from my arm. I struggled a little with wrapping the thing over my wound so I had to use my hands and mouth in order to get it tight enough to stop the flow. It was quite the sight, trying to get it around my arm, but I eventually got it.

When my arm was good and secure, I continued to lurk around the house, trying to find anything that would point me to where this bitch would be. As I walked around, I noticed a lot of things that would seem off. The house was too clean. Everything seemed to be in its place. I don’t know how this female is. I don’t know if she is a natural neat freak, but I’m sure that most females leave certain things out. Like there would be some type of indication of something being misplaced right? Her mail on her desk was perfect, her sink was clean of dishes, her bathroom was spotless, and her closet looked a little… light. There it was. After I made my little round, I found myself in her room, looking through that same closet that I killed the nigga in.

I plugged my nose as I sifted through the closet, noticing empty hangers in between her coats and dresses and shit that were hanging. I immediately exited the closet and took a deep breath of the somewhat fresh air. I peered around the room and walked over to her dresser that was by her door. I opened up each drawer and noticed empty slots for underwear and bras and shit. It looks like she doesn’t stay here. Maybe she figured Kaleo would try here first? Is that why she had someone watching her place and is that why these niggas were here in such a big number? Well, not big, but a decent sized group.

While I pondered on that thought, I noticed a folded paper on the top of the dresser. I don’t know why I didn’t notice it before, it was such an oddly placed piece amongst the neat pile of magazines and other shit. I picked it up and found there was a scribbled address on it. It was chicken scratched but I was able to make out the words, “Trav’s Warehouse. Not used?” Seemed legit enough. Seems like the bitch was hidin’ out in this warehouse or house or whatever. It was just the lead I was goin’ for. But what if this was planted here?

  Boom! Stomp, Stomp.

Shit, there were more niggas. I took too much time! Fuck this, I need to get out of here. I shoved the note in my pocket and tried to bust out of there.

  They spotted me.

“Who the fuck are you? Hold the fuck up, lil nigga!”

I turned back and saw three niggas chasing after me.

  Pop, pop!

Aw hell, they were armed too. Shit.

I continued to run around the house, trying to make my way to the back door. But they got me. They just continued to pop off rounds in my direction as I ran away. They eventually got me and this time dude hit my leg. I stumbled a little but I kept on going. I don’t know what was keeping me going, but shit I was thankful for it. It was something other than my adrenaline, maybe it was luck?

When I finally made it out the back door, I nervously grabbed the keys out of my pocket and rushed to my car, quickly hopping in and starting the engine. Just as I was about to peel the fuck out of there, niggas was standing outside shooting rounds off at me still. They hit my car and busted my passenger side window as I drove off. I was lucky they didn’t hit my tires or else I would have been so fucked. I looked in my rearview mirror and noticed that they just stood there. They didn’t get into their cars, they just went back into the house. I wonder if they saw the dead bodies.

As I drove away and towards my place, I thought about all the shit I had just gone through. That was fucking nerve racking and I could have died. Am I really ready for this type of work and shit? It seemed cool and I was goin’ to get used to it and do my best but fuck man, that bullet in my leg as I tried to run away really fucked me up and got me thinkin’. Fuck, my leg was startin’ to hurt and go numb.

I sped through the neighborhoods and tried to get home as fast as I could. When I got home, I didn’t even bother to turn off my fucking car, I just kicked open my door and ran to the front door. I hobbled actually. Nah, it was more like a trot to the front door. It was such a fuckin struggle! I knocked on the door and twisted the locked knob, waiting for Kaleo to come help me. There was blood spewing from my leg and the bandage on my arm was soaked with blood. I’m sure there was blood all up in my car too, but shit, I didn’t care.

  Bang, bang, knock…

I fell to my knees and ended up sittin’ on my ass. I grabbed my leg and tried to stop the blood. It didn’t look as bad, but maybe that was because it was dark outside and I just couldn’t see. I reached out my hand and knocked on the door again, but Kaleo didn’t respond. I just sat there trying to keep it together while I waited.

I finally heard some type of footsteps and saw the door swing open hella fast. I peered my eyes at the silhouette that stood before me against the bright light of the inside of the house. It looked like JB but it also looked like Kaleo. I didn’t know who the fuck it was. I was starting to get dizzy but did my best to keep awake and not lose myself. Whoever it was that stood in front of my squatted to look at me and mumbled something but I didn’t catch it, I was so confused.

“It’s Dae… Where is Kaleo…?” were the last words I remembered saying.

  Chapter 12

  Dae

I woke up in some room, it looked really unfamiliar for a minute. When I looked around and saw pictures of Kaleo, me, and momma, I realized that I was in Kaleo’s room. I was feelin’ a lot better but I still had a headache. Honestly, I was just happy to be alive and breathing at this point. I could have died last night had I not had fought back or tried to get away. If I were to have frozen up and not defended myself, yeah, I would have been dead.

I was covered in a blanket that was starting to make me hot. Not thinking, I used my injured arm to uncover myself to relieve myself of the heat.

“Shit, that hurt. What the hell?” I muttered as I ripped off the covers and laid there in pain. The burning feelin’ in my leg and arm overwhelmed me and made freeze up. I took a couple deep breaths before I looked at my newly bandaged arm and leg, noting that they looked so much better than they had the night before. It still hurt like hell, though.

  Knock, Knock.

Kaleo didn’t even give me time to respond, he just came inside the room.

“How you feelin’, lil nigga? You aight?” Kaleo asked as he came closer to me to examine my wounds before he sat at the foot of the bed.

“Yeah, I’m aight. I’m just glad I made it out of there alive.”

  “I am too.”

Kaleo sighed heavily and made himself more comfortable on the bed before he continued to talk. He just looked hella drained, like somethin’ happened to him that made him upset or sad. Was it because of what I went through? Or was it ‘cause I didn’t find what he was lookin’ for. Wait, I didn’t even show him what I found just yet.

“Dae, I’m sorry that happened to you. Nigga. Ugh. I mean, we told you to watch your back and you did, I just—”

Kaleo shoved his face into the palms of his hands and rubbed his face. He looked like he was stressed and struggling.

“I just feel like I failed you as brother. I hate myself sometimes for introducing you to this life and making you go through shit like that.”

I shook my head and sat up as best as I could.

“Kaleo shut the hell up. You make me sound like a defenseless and useless puppy dog set out to the pack of wolves. Like damn, nigga. I get that you upset that this happened to me, but I took this challenge, I went out there and did this shit ‘cause I wanted to help out. I unde
rstand how you feel bro, I did. But come on now, aight? I’ll be real honest, while I was goin’ through with this damn mission, I started doubting myself and doubting if I wanted to even stay here and put myself in danger like this. Shit, I was about to say ‘fuck this, I wanna focus on school and shit’ but nah. I’m gone drop from college and commit myself to you, Kaleo. I’m gone commit to this game and we gone get it right. Yeah, I have a lot I still need to learn and I still need to experience, but shit, I’m ready and willin’. Aight?”

Kaleo looked at me like a damn deer in headlights. He looked like he was confused and like he didn’t know what to say. He looked like a mix of happy and hurt, it was hella funny to see. I did my best not to laugh at him and instead shot him a look like, ’Nigga, you gone say something or...’? He shook his head and looked like he finally got his shit together before he started to talk.

“You thought about leaving? Shit, I don’t blame you at all for feelin’ that way lil nigga. I would have felt that way too after takin my first hit. But yo, you for real wanna commit to me and this game? You gone drop school and your dreams for me? I really appreciate that, but I need to know right now that you ain’t just sayin’ that shit just to say it. If you really wanna be there for me and you wanna ride like that, then please mean it. I don’t wanna force you into some shit just cause of what you went through. Don’t feel obligated at all to me. I would sit here and tell you that you need to stay and you signed up for this type of shit, but I ain’t gone do that. I really wanna make sure this is what you really wanna spend a good amount of your time doin’ cause this life only gets harder and shit gets real really quick.”

I just nodded my head and smiled at Kaleo. I loved him so much and I just wanted shit to work out and I just wanted to finally commit to something fully.

“Yeah, I want this, aight? Now let’s get to what the fuck I found when I went to that hoe’s house.”

I pointed to my jeans that were laid across the desk chair and motioned for Kaleo to get it and hand it to me. He kindly got up and tossed me my pants as he took his seat back on the edge of the bed. My arm was hurtin’ like hell when I tried to dig into the pant pocket to retrieve the paper I took off of Tangie’s dresser. I struggled for a little, but I finally got it out and tossed the paper at Kaleo.

He looked at me kind of confused for a second before he opened up the torn paper that was somewhat covered with my blood. He peered at the paper and tried to make sense of the chicken scratch and the location that was written on it.

“Travis’s warehouse? He got a warehouse? I ain’t surprised, but is this where she is? Good shit, Dae. I’m real life proud that you found this shit. We can scope out that place too.”

“I don’t mind stayin’ on that search and shit mission. When I was at her house, I was also able to note that she ain’t gone be goin’ back there for a while. Or maybe she will. She had a lot of missing slots in her closet and it looked like she had missing suitcases or whatever. There were just a lot of empty spaces in her closet. Looks like this bitch is just on the move and may be at that spot or somewhere else. But yeah, I’ll keep on if you want. ”

“For real? Aight then, I’ll keep you on that and then I actually have another place I want you to check out. It is a known hangout that Travis hangs at and they always there. So when you go, you can expect people to be there. Just be careful with that one when you go, be prepared to face angry and armed niggas when you lurk for that bitch.”

“You got it, bro. I’ll be aight. So you want me to scope the hangout first and then the warehouse or whatever this shit is?”

Kaleo nodded and stood up to head towards the door.

“Yeah, that is the plan bro. I don’t expect you to go tonight, though. Go whenever you are good and rested, aight?”

I nodded and smiled at him as I watched him walk out the room and shut the door behind him. It was good to know that he cared, but he didn’t need to make a nigga feel handicapped and shit. Now I felt like I needed to prove my worth to him or some shit. Hence, why I’m takin these missions and tryna do my best to show him that I could and will be a good asset to this gang of his.

I laid back down in the bed and took a deep breath as all the pain from my wounds radiated throughout my body. I felt so uncomfortable but I knew that this would all pass soon anyway. I just laid there and thought about my next move and how this was gone be real interestin’. Shit, I needed a blunt or somethin’ to calm my escalating nerves. Whatever, though, I was ready for this shit.

  Chapter 13

  Tangie

“This is some bullshit, Travis! They did what? Who did what? What the fuck are you talkin’ bout? I fuckn told yo ass that they was gone come and try to kill me, why didn’t you do shit about this?”

I was beyond pissed off when Travis told me about what happened at my house. He said that some nigga, some unknown lookin’ nigga came in and murked his goons when they was patrolin’ my house. So much for protection, if I was there, I would have fuckin been dead! He murdered all six of ‘em and when Travis’s backups didn’t hear back from any of them niggas that night, they went to go check on ‘em and found ‘em dead on the floor. That is so fuckin disgustin’, there are dead bodies at my crib. They best gone clean that shit up before I ever step foot in that place, hell nah.

“Tangie, calm the hell down. Yo ass wasn’t there so you should be thankful.”

Oooh, that shit irked me. I cut my eyes at him and shook my head in disgust.

“Nigga, what the fuck did you just fuckin say? I should be thankful? Yeah, I’m thankful that I ain’t dead but shit you had to throw that shit in my face like that? You ain’t worried ‘bout shit ‘cause yo ass ain’t the one being hunted down, now are you? Fuck, I’m runnin’ from someone and they was this close to gettin' to me, show some type of sympathy. Shit! You said you was gone help me out, but look what happened. I don’t wanna sound like no prissy bitch but nigga, step this shit up!”

Travis just shook his head and crossed his arms.

  “Fine, I gotchu. I’ll—”

“Oh, you got me? You got me? For real, nigga? Oh, aight. Go on and tell me.”

I cut nigga off with my sass. I honestly didn’t wanna hear him say shit about how he got me and how he gone protect me. I didn’t feel bad for it either. He just cut his eyes at me like I did to him and he shook his head, givin’ me the look like, ‘is you done? You gone let me finish talkin?’ I just wanted to put my lil two cents in cause I was feelin’ hunted and this nigga ain’t understand shit like he should have. I was here bein’ chased by my ex and he was comin’ for blood. I know Kaleo’s character, he ain’t gone stop until he gets what he wants. Travis collected himself and watched as I crossed my arms and leaned my weight onto my left leg, waitin’ for nigga to get on and continue with what he was gone do.

“Aight. Well, before you went on and got that ugly ass attitude goin’ on, I was gone tell you what I was gone do fo yo ass. You can chill out in a couple of my locations aight? You can spend a couple days in them and then switch between the two so that yo ass ain’t in one spot fo the entire time, aight? I’ll give you the list before you leave so you can go on and get comfortable.”

I just rolled my eyes and held my hand out, suggesting that he just shut up and get on with givin’ me that damn list so I could pack a light bag and move on. I ain’t need much. Just some clothes and shit. Oh, and I needed money too. I snapped my fingers and gave him a look like, ‘you gone give me a list or nah?’

“Travis, Ima need some money too, though. I gotta keep myself alive and buy some clothes if I need it. You ain’t pay me yet, nigga.”

He just shook his head and dismissed himself from the room. I dropped my hand and folded it back across my chest while I waited for his tall ass to come back and gimme what I want. I wanted him to hurry the fuck up, though, I needed to move and now. I ain’t know where the fuck Kaleo was and he could be right around the corner for all I know. I was just beyond paranoid and it was gettin' to me.

Travis finally made his way back into the room and handed me a brown package. I rose my eyebrow at the package and then up at him.

“What? You dropped your hand. You ain’t want this? It’s what you wanted.”

I scoffed and snatched the package from him, rolling my eyes as I opened it up. My eyes widened as I looked inside the package and saw all the money inside.

“That’s ‘bout two hunnid thou in there. Should hold you over. There is a paper in there too, with the listed places you can go between. Oh, there are also a set of keys in there. Those are keys to a Honda Fit so you can stay low key when you drive around. I’m sure you drivin’ in a Masi or a BMW is gone draw some attention.”
