Would You, Could You

He kissed her forehead. "Sorry. I know that will be a challenge for you...trusting that I'm ok. That God will protect me. I can leave the FBI any time. I can work in any type of law enforcement or I can take a security job. I've got skills to support us."
"I wouldn't make you leave the FBI. You may not realize it, but in your letters, you reveal a lot more of how you feel about that job. It fulfills you to take care of people. To protect and serve."
"I don't need the FBI for that. I want to protect and serve you and Julianne."
"That will get really old, really quick. No. A man is fulfilled by his job. It's how God made you. We'll just...make adjustments."
"I love you."
"I can tell."
"Will you marry me?"
She offered him a radiant smile and reached behind her. She held up the ring box he'd left five months earlier. "I was hoping you'd ask this time."
Bryce slid off the couch and went down on one knee to hold out the ring. "Lisa Renee Engles, I love you. Will you marry me?"
"Yes, but I can't leave Boston until the end of the school year. And Julianne is in seventh grade. You've got one year to move us somewhere permanent because I don't want her high school years to be one move after another. She needs stability."
Bryce laughed. "You really have thought this out."
"Once I knew for sure, I had all night."
"Sweetheart, we've got a lifetime."

Bryce threw the last suitcase in the back of the Jeep and walked around to the driver's side. He got in and started the car before looking at Lisa on the passenger side then glancing at Julianne in the rearview mirror.
"Well, school's out. Where to? Alaska or Disney?"
"Why not both, Dad?"
"Yeah. Why not both, Dad?" Lisa smiled at him and took his hand.
"Why not?" He pushed in a Hank, the Cowdog cd. "I love you two."
