Killian watched her storm out of the room and leave him standing there. He exhaled and followed her back down the stairs. When he noticed she’d stopped on the stairs, he stopped behind her. She was leaning over as if trying to hear something. Killian was just about to ask her what she was doing when she turned around and walked to him.
“My sisters are here,” she whispered.
Killian shrugged. He didn’t give a fuck, but she sounded like she did.
“I didn’t know they were coming today.”
“What’s the big deal?” he whispered back.
Her eyes rolled to the side. “They just talk too much. They get on my nerves sometimes.”
“It’ll be cool. Just relax.” Killian touched the side of her face, and she leaned into his hand.
Her eyes were sweet as she innocently stared up at him. Killian was trying to comfort her, but he inwardly hoped they didn’t start no shit with his girl because he was most definitely the right one for it. His mouth would ruin their whole trip if some fucked up shit came out of it.
“East, Killian!” her mother’s voice came from down the stairs.
Killian grabbed East’s hand and pulled her the rest of the way down. She followed until they got to the living room. She got in front of him and walked into the kitchen first. It was large and spacious. A large glass table was in the corner and sitting at it were two girls who looked absolutely nothing like East. Both were very beautiful, but they all had their own look.
One was average sized with big eyes and black hair. Her skin was the color of his while their other sister was high yellow like Yeshi and a little on the heavy side like their mother. Her hair was dyed a bright blue color and actually looked pretty good on her. For them to be sisters, they looked absolutely nothing alike. Killian was stumped. How did three people with the same parents look so different?
“It’s about time y’all came downstairs,” the blue-haired sister said. Killian noted how big her teeth were. They kind of made her look like a rabbit, but he wouldn’t say that unless she came at him the wrong way. Which she probably would, judging by the look on her face. Her nose was slightly turned up, and she kept looking him up and down as if looking for something.
“What y’all was up there doing?” the other one joked.
Versus going all the way in the kitchen, Killian had stopped at the door. With one hand resting on top of the door frame and his shoulder resting casually on the wall, he did his best to relax. He wasn’t nervous, but he was the furthest thing from a people person, and he could feel that East knew it. She too had stopped near the door. Directly in front of him and stepped back, leaning all of her weight on his chest.
Killian’s free arm came up around her collarbone, holding her to him. Although, it may have looked like they were all over each other, having East in his arms was natural. Anytime she was close to him, they had to be touching in some sort of way. She had the same possessive problem.
He could be doing something as simple as brushing his teeth, and she would be leaning on his back, holding the mouthwash, or sitting on the counter in front of him, waiting for him to get done. She was clingy, and he had no objections. Right then, her head was lying backward on his chest as she held his forearm with both of her hands.
“Oh, Ma, they in love,” Blue hair said out loud.
Deidra looked over her shoulder and smiled. “I see. They’re cute, honey.”
East sucked her teeth. “Jerian and Sasha, this is Killian. Killian, those are my sisters.”
Dark skin was Jerian while blue hair was Sasha. Killian nodded at them both. “What’s going on, ladies?”
His deep bedroom voice echoed throughout the kitchen. Instinctively, East shrank back into him a little more. Killian tightened his grip around her. He loved how needy she was for him. He loved how she didn’t mind showing it even more.
“You good?” he whispered into her ear.
She nodded, but he could tell she was lying. The moment he spoke, both of her sisters did that girly shit that women did when they liked something about a man. Their eyes shifted between each other as they smirked and tooted their lips up. Even high fiving at one point.
“It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Killian,” Jerian told him. “Y’all don’t want to sit down?”
“Nope,” East answered quickly.
“Eww, what’s wrong with you?” Jerian frowned.
Sasha sucked her teeth and waved her hand in East’s direction. “You know how she gets with her little men, chile. Don’t talk to him too much, she’s gon’ think you want him in a minute.”
Sasha’s remarks and tone irritated Killian, but he chilled. Not only was what she said unnecessary but the way she’d said it was bogus as fuck for her to have been East’s sister. There was clearly some sort of jealousy on her part, but he’d discuss that with East later.
“Sasha, shut up before I slap you. Just don’t even start with me today.”
“Don’t neither one of y’all start today. I don’t have time for that mess. Y’all gon’ act like y’all got some sense today.” Deidra turned from the counter with a plate filled with food.
Killian’s mouth watered at the crispy fried chicken and macaroni and cheese. The collard greens and pig feet were another story. He hated to be rude, but he wasn’t eating that shit. Luckily, his baby had him covered.
“Mommy, he’s not going to eat the pig feet and greens.” East stepped out of his grasp and took the plate from her mother. “I’ll just put it on my plate.”
Deidra looked over at Killian with a big, warm smile. “You don’t like greens and pig feet?”
“No, ma’am. I don’t eat too much unhealthy stuff. I eat greens, just not with all the extra meat in it, and the pig feet.” Killian’s face frowned. “Definitely a no.”
“Who doesn’t eat pig feet?” Jerian joked with him. “You haven’t lived, Killian.”
“Anybody who loves their life.” East laughed with her sister. “All that disgusting fat. Eww.” She grabbed him a fork and a bottle of water from the refrigerator and walked to the table where her sisters were sitting.
“I forgot you’re on your li’l healthy kick,” Sasha chimed in, attitude still present.
“It’s not a kick, Sasha. It’s a lifestyle. You should try it.”
Jerian did nothing to hold in her laugh. She was cracking up at East’s fat joke. Killian wanted to laugh but didn’t. He would hate to get thrown out of Deidra’s house for slapping her daughter to the floor because that was exactly what would happen. He could already tell Sasha had a mouth that would piss him all the way off.
“I’m fine just like I am, thank you very much. Men love a little meat on their women. Any man who doesn’t isn’t a real man.” Her eyes went straight to Killian.
Killian caught her shade but kept his same scowl and took a seat at the table. That was sister shit, he wasn’t getting in it.
“Whatever makes you feel good about being fat.”
“Alright now, y’all two.” Deidra pointed at both of the girls. “Stop that shit. Me and Jerian ain’t refereeing no fights today. Somebody is going to get an ass whooping before I break up anything today.”
East sat on Killian’s leg. “Won’t be me.”
“Who it’s gon’ be, sis?” Jerian egged East on.
Killian smirked. When Jerian looked at him, they both laughed quietly. East, on the other hand, fell right into her sister’s trap. With a mouth full of Killian’s food, East put his fork back down before speaking.
“Sasha’s!”
Killian, Jerian, and East all laughed.
“Don’t be trying to show out for your li’l man, East,” Sasha fired off.
“I’m not. Kill knows me. I don’t have to show out for him. You just not about to keep trying me either.”
Killian pinched the side of East’s stomach. “Chill out. Just eat your food.”
East bit a large piece of his chicken and shrugged. Killian could tell by the look on her face that she was
only going to take heed to his advice until the next time her sister said something to her. All Killian could do was shake his head. It wasn’t like he didn’t know how she was. East had been a firecracker since he’d met her.
“What celebrity are we having over for dinner?” A male voice came from the entrance of the kitchen.
An extremely tall older man with gray and black hair stood at the door taking his jacket off. He was dark as Killian and Jerian with big eyes and big teeth. Whelp, there it was. Every one of his daughters looked like him in their own way. Jerian had his eyes and skin color, Sasha had those teeth and his nose, while East had his height. Killian’s mind was blown. A quick thought of East having a daughter who looked exactly like him crossed his mind but left just as fast. He’d rather she looked like East. She looked better.
“Daddy, what you talking about?” Jerian asked.
“That red Audi parked in my yard. I know it’s somebody with some money up in here.”
Killian wiped his mouth and tried to stand from his seat, but East wouldn’t move. “That’d be me, sir.” Killian pushed her off his leg and stood to his feet.
His tall, lean, body strolled toward the man with his hand outstretched. Her father smiled and shook his hand before playfully patting the pockets of Killian’s pants.
“Let me hold something, young blood. I know you got it.”
Killian shared a laugh with East’s father before she interrupted. He grabbed her tightly, kissing the top of her head as they hugged.
“Hey, baby girl. When did you sneak into town?”
“About an hour ago.” East cuddled beneath her father’s arm. “We’re staying for the weekend.”
When he smiled, Killian could see East all over him. Maybe he and East’s daughter could look like him and her and still turn out cute.
“Who is we? Ain’t no man staying in my house with one of my daughter’s. Hell nah, I don’t do that kind of fuckery.” He shook his head with a broad smile on his face. “I’m trying to make honest women out of my daughters, young man. You gon’ help me do that, or do you just plan to spend all of your money on fancy cars and clothes?” Her father’s eyes trekked over Killian’s clothing.
“He already did, Daddy.” East held her hand up and flashed the large ring on her finger. The brand-new gold Rolex Killian had just bought her shined behind her ring. “So, leave my man alone.”
Killian didn’t know what to say or do after that. He hadn’t known she was going to bust them out like that, damn. She’d done it now. All eyes went to East’s hand. Her mother even screamed after practically snatching East’s hand to her face so that she could see her ring better.
“East!” Jerian was out of her seat and hugging East’s neck while Sasha stayed put with a frown on her face.
“So, you just get married and don’t even invite your mother to the wedding?” her father asked.
East poked her bottom lip out before hugging her mother’s neck. “I’m sorry, Ma. It wasn’t planned. We just woke up one night and decided to do it. Nobody knows.”
“How long has it been? I haven’t been hearing about him for that long. It’s been what a month? Two?”
“Something like that,” East told them nonchalantly.
Killian was still waiting to hear somebody say something out of the way, so he remained quiet. Chilling coolly, as he always was, he watched her mother and sister gawk at her ring while her father observed with a slight frown on his forehead.
“What you do for a living, boy? That’s a big ring and a nice car. You ain’t selling no dope, are you?”
For the first time since East blurted out their relationship status, Killian smiled. Even laughed. Her father’s response was hilarious as hell and Killian couldn’t stop laughing. East joined in while her family waited for Killian to say something.
“You’re laughing, but your ass better have a legal job. My baby ain’t getting caught up in no bullshit.”
“My job is legal, sir.”
He crossed his arms and sized Killian up. “What you do?”
“I own a gym. I’m a trainer.”
“That explains East’s sudden healthy transformation. She’s following you.” Sasha finally said something.
“You need to find somebody to follow to the gym, Sasha. Your hating ass.”
Deidra popped East in the mouth. “You married, but you ain’t grown.”
East and Jerian rolled their eyes while laughing at their mother. The whole marriage conversation went on for another few minutes before they were all sitting down to eat. Once they were done, they retired to the living room. East and her sisters were lying on one sofa, while Deidra was lying down on the other one alone. Killian was lying on the floor near East’s feet scrolling on his phone when the doorbell rang.
“I’ll get it. Don’t y’all move,” East’s father said while coming down the stairs. “Look at all my women in one house. I feel like the king of the world.” His words brought a smile to all of their faces.
Killian took notes. He’d been complimenting the women since the moment he’d walked in the door. Real nigga shit. Killian loved it.
“What’s going on, Mr. Junior? I’m here for my weekly drop off.” The man at the door smiled and handed East’s father a small bag.
Killian sat up so that he could see better. Killian could tell by the clothes and hat he wore that he was one of those pretty boy niggas like Onyx. His dress pants and button-up shirt was crisp and looked relatively expensive.
“Oh… okay.” Mr. Junior’s tone changed a little as he looked over at Deidra. “Baby, did you know Jesse was coming this weekend?”
Jesse? Killian’s ears perked up. He just knew that wasn’t East’s Jesse.
Deidra sat up and looked to the door. She smiled, but it didn’t reach her ears like it had been doing since he’d been there.
“Uh, yes. Jesse, baby, you didn’t get my text?”
Jesse shook his head while pulling his phone out. “No ma’am, my phone died on me early this morning. Haven’t had the chance to charge it. What’d you say?”
Killian could tell by the way her parent’s vibe had changed that this was definitely East’s Jesse. They both looked nervous but were doing their best to handle it.
“Hey, Jesse, look who’s in town,” Sasha sang, interrupting the conversation.
Killian had been trying to give her a chance all morning, but he hated her ass. If her nasty attitude toward East hadn’t been enough, her taunting Jesse with East sure as hell had done it for him.
When Jesse stepped into the house, Killian could tell Mr. Junior wasn’t feeling it, but he stepped back, allowing him some space anyway. Killian sat on the floor unmoved. He wouldn’t dare let another nigga get him ruffled. His aura was calm, and his face was straight as he sized Jesse up. He was aight, but Killian would kick his ass through the wall with little to no effort.
“East, there goes Jesse,” Sasha further instigated.
Out of the side of his eye, Killian saw Jerian kick Sasha. East hadn’t moved yet. Her eyes were focused on her phone, and her head had yet to raise. Jesse’s eyes went from Sasha to East, to Killian. They didn’t stay on him long. He nodded once and looked back at East.
“East? What’s going on, girl? You looking good.”
East said nothing.
“Jesse, this is Killian. East’s husband.” Deidra was now standing and walking toward Jesse.
Jesse’s entire facial expression changed when he looked back at Killian. He obviously hadn’t put East with Killian earlier, but now that he had, he had a notable problem. The way his nostrils flared made Killian sit up. If Jesse wanted to start some shit, Killian wanted to be ready to beat his ass.
“Jesse, how about you go ahead, and I’ll give you a call later?”
The frown on Jesse’s forehead deepened when he looked from Deidra back to East. “East?” Jesse yelled her name.
“What?!” East finally responded.
Killian slowly stood to his feet. H
e wasn’t exactly sure why he was standing up, but something in him just didn’t feel right. He looked down at East, wanting to make sure she was good, but she wouldn’t make eye contact.
“Can I speak with you for a minute outside?”
“Nah, homie. She straight.” Speaking to her outside was most definitely not about to happen.
Jesse didn’t have to acknowledge Killian’s presence, but he would respect it. He and East were over. There was no way in the world she was about to step outside to have a private pow-wow with any nigga she’d been in love with. That shit was dead.
“I’m not talking to you.” Jesses got flip at the mouth.
Killian smirked and ran his hand over his mouth. “She ain’t going out that door.”
He wouldn’t argue with Jesse, but he’d said what he said, and he meant it. East and Jesse could try him if they wanted to. He could turn into disrespectful Killian in point zero seconds.
“East? You can’t come talk to me for a minute?” Jesse raised his eyebrows at her tauntingly.
“Jesse, I think it’s time for you to go.” Mr. Junior touched the side of Jesse’s shoulder, nudging him toward the door.
“Just go ahead, baby. We’ll come by later,” Deidra told Jesse softly.
“I need to speak with East.” Jesse got indignant.
East sucked her teeth and stood from the sofa in a huff. “Come on,” she said while attempting to walk past Killian.
Killian’s head jerked back a little as he looked at her blatantly disregarding what he’d just said. His hand to her wrist pulled her right back to where she’d been. Not bothering to say anything, Killian looked at her instead. She knew what the fuck was up; he wasn’t even about to waste his breath.
“Uh oh,” Sasha instigated.
“Shut up, Sasha. This is your fault any damn way. You’re always talking,” Jerian scolded from behind Killian.
“It ain’t my fault, this East’s mess. She needs to handle it.”
Killian blocked her sisters out and looked at East. She was looking at him now and pleading with her eyes.
“Just for a minute. Let me just go see what he has to say.”
“Nah.” Killian bit one side of his bottom lip with a straight face.
