Herobrine Scared Stiff

by Zack Zombie

As I ran though a few ideas in my head, the wizard boy seized his chance. He lunged towards me once more, this time catching me off guard and stealing the magic staff back.

I pushed past him hoping he wouldn’t turn me into a Slime or Spider and dashed into the garden. I ran to Mr. Lurker’s shed, unbolted the door and leapt inside. Cobwebs wrapped around me as I searched for a shovel. I found a pair of gardening gloves, a screwdriver and a few dead mice, but no shovel. Then, I spotted it. I grabbed the handle of the shovel and pulled it from the mess.

I ran back into the garden as all the kids and Mrs. Lurker moved onto the patio to watch what I was doing.

I looked down at the soil, gripped the shovel tightly and plunged it into the ground and started digging. I pushed it in again and again.

Suddenly, Lucy appeared at my side with the usual confused look on her face.

“What are you doing?” she whispered. “Have you lost it? Plus, since you’re my friend, you’re making me look crazy too!”

“There’s no other way to get rid of them!” I replied as the hole in front of me got deeper by the second.

“Getting rid of who?” Lucy questioned.

  “The Minecraft Mobs!”

“What Minecraft mobs? Herobrine, I think you’re going crazy. I think the full moon has done something to you.”

“Think what you want,” I protested. “But look over there. That’s a Creeper and that one over there is a Zombie. I need to save all of your lives!”

  “Herobrine!” Lucy shouted. “That’s Doug!”

“It’s not dug yet, but I’m getting there,” I replied.

I jumped down into the hole that was now almost as deep as me. I had to keep digging. I had to dig as deep as I could until I reached The Void. Lucy might have thought I was nuts, but my plan was going working, that was until Mr. Lurker arrived home.

He stepped into the empty house and headed straight for the patio where everyone was.

“HEY! KID! WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MY LAWN?!!”

His voice scared me more than those Creepers did! I dropped the shovel into the hole and turned around. Mr. Lurker’s face was redder than a baboon’s bottom and he looked like a bull about to charge. I quickly jumped out of the hole. With everyone staring at me with angry looks, and steam beginning to flood out of Mr. Lurker’s nostrils, I realized I needed to start running… again!

  Chapter 8

  The Chase

I realized I couldn’t save everybody, but I was determined to save Lucy. I grabbed her by the wrist and ran though the sea of people into the house as Mr. Lurker stretched out his huge hands, trying to grab me. Lucy kept yelling my name but I didn’t have time to listen. We ran up the stairs, into Lucy’s bedroom and I threw the door shut as quickly as I could.

I looked around. There was work to be done.

I leaned against her dresser and pushed it across the door. I pulled the bed towards the door too, and just in time. Suddenly, there was knocking and banging on the other side of the door.

“It’s the Creepers and Zombies!” I cried. “They’re trying to get in!”

They started thumping against the door with all their weight. The dresser drawer began to move.

“We need to get out of here!” I yelled.

I looked over at the window and then at Lucy. I slid the window up and saw that directly outside was a huge oak tree. A branch as thick as my body stretched out right in front of the window. With Minecraft mobs at the door, it was our only chance of escaping.

“Follow me!” I yelled as I made my way onto the branch.

  “You’re crazy!” Lucy shouted.

But, before she could think about the situation any more, her dad screamed from the other side of the door.

“Lucy! I blame you for this. You brought that weird square kid into our house. When I get in there, you’re grounded for a month!”

That was enough to scare Lucy into action. She climbed onto the branch behind me and we made our way quickly and carefully to the bottom.

Lucy’s bedroom was at the front of the house, so the moment our feet touched the sidewalk, we ran. One of the kids in Lucy’s house was standing at the bottom of the stairs and saw us make our escape. She yelled and alerted everyone else, and within seconds we had everyone chasing after us.

And the mob that was chasing us was big! There was Mr. and Mrs. Lurker, the wizard boy with his magic staff and a whole host of mini-monsters including werewolves, ghouls, pirates, astronauts, several man-eating Zombies and a few exploding Creepers. Yikes!

We ran to the end of the street. I paused wondering which way to go. Suddenly, the mob that had been chasing us rounded the corner of the street.

“There he is!” cried the hairy bald man. “It’s the box boy with the glowing eyes. Get him!”

The charge of the other mob only left us with one direction to turn. That was towards the Recreation Hall at the top of the hill. I ran towards the Rec Hall gates as quickly as I could and Lucy did the same. Getting caught by her dad was not the way she wanted this Halloween night to end.

As we entered the Rec Hall I looked around. There was a huge field with white lines marked on it and a concrete basketball court in the far corner. To the left was a small hut that appeared to be a café. Obviously, at this time of night it was closed.

To the side of the café was a play area with several climbing frames and a long zip line wire that ran from a large wooden play fort to the ground. The fort seemed like the best place to hide, so we sprinted across the field towards it.

The field was poorly lit, so as the mobs arrived at the Rec Hall gate they lost sight of us for a moment.

As I panted I could hear them discussing where we could be. Then, the wizard boy saw us. I don’t know how as it was pretty dark. I assumed he must have used his magic staff to conjure up a location spell or something. Either way, the chase was on once more. We headed past the café and into the play fort. Some ladders ran up to a second floor inside the fort. I climbed to the top with Lucy behind me and we peered out through the battlements.

“What do we do now?” Lucy asked.

I didn’t answer. To be honest, I had no idea. I knew I needed to get back to the wizard boy’s garden, but without the magic staff it seemed the only option I had to prevent the spread of Minecraft mobs was to destroy the portal completely. But, that meant that the Creepers and Zombies that were already in the real world would be stuck here. That seemed fine if it was limited to only those four mobs, but if they spawned then who knows what could happen.

Suddenly, a flashlight beam hit my face. It seemed my glowing eyes had given away our location!

“There he is!” cried Mr. Lurker. “There’s the glowing eyed kid who’s kidnapped my daughter!”

  Chapter 9

  The Rec Hall

The mob thundered towards us as the floodlights burst on across the Rec Hall.

The kids were quicker than the adults, so the first wave of attacks came from the pirates, astronauts and goblins. They moved to the bottom of the ladder. We were running out of places to go.

Lucy and I ran along the fort, but as they climbed to the top of the ladder we realized we were trapped. The wizard boy took the lead and brandished his magic staff in front of him.

“He’s going to do magic!” I cried. “Stand behind me, Lucy! I’ll protect you. I won’t let him turn you into a Slime!”

“Herobrine,” Lucy replied. “He won’t turn me into...”

Before she could finish her sentence, I spotted something that would give us the perfect exit.

I grabbed Lucy’s arm and pulled her with me. I was heading towards the zip line. I climbed on and Lucy grabbed a hold of me. I had no idea if it would take the weight of us both together, but it was our only chance. I closed my eyes, held on tight a
nd lifted my feet.

As the wizard boy swung his magic staff at me, Lucy and I shot from the play fort, narrowly avoiding his spell. The moment we hit the ground we ran for the café as the mob of monster kids descended the ladder and headed in our direction once more.

“The door’s shut!” Lucy shouted, trying to turn the handle. “There’s no way of getting in.”

That didn’t worry me. I took ten steps back and then I ran toward the door. I threw my square head against the door and tumbled into the dark café, crashing onto the black and white tiles. Lucy followed.

We searched around for somewhere to hide. The mob knew we were in there so crawling under a table didn’t seem like an option. Then, with no time left to find the perfect hiding place we simply hid behind the counter. Lucy covered my glowing eyes so that the mob couldn’t tell where we were.

The mini werewolves and pirates entered the café behind us, followed by Mr. and Mrs. Lurker. I could hear Mr. Lurker’s heavily booted feet plodding around. Tables and chairs screeched on the tiled floor as he searched every inch of the café looking for us.

Then, I heard him walking towards us. It appeared there was nowhere left for him to search except behind the counter. I decided there and then that I wasn’t going to just crouch there and be captured, so I knew it was time to fight back!

There was a huge tray of cream pies beside us. I picked one up, held it in my trembling hand and waited for Mr. Lurker to lean over the countertop. The second he did, I pushed the pie into his mad-looking face and it squished into him like a square boot into a poop patch. But, something began to happen to him. His face turned a really bright red and got so hot that the cream pie melted away and dripped onto the floor.

I think I was in some serious trouble.

  Chapter 10

  Battle at the Café

Mr. Lurker stood up straight. I grabbed another cream pie. I don’t know what possessed me to do it. Looking back now, I would have been better off just coming out from behind the counter and surrendering. But that’s not what I did. I took the pie, aimed it at the wizard boy and let it fly!

The wizard boy stumbled back in shock, then he turned to the table behind him that had a plate of moldy sandwiches on it. Next thing I know they were flying through the air headed my way.

I ducked behind the counter as the sandwich cannon balls smashed against the wall above me. I grabbed some more cream pies and waited for the last of the sandwiches to shoot over my head. Then, I unleashed the fury!

Like some sort of crazy food cannon, I pelted one child after another with cream pies. Most hit their target and sent the kids running from the café crying for their moms. It was total carnage.

Chocolate chip cookies shot across the café like mini Frisbees, fairy cakes catapulted around the room as if a medieval battle was going on, and long jelly rolls fired like torpedoes with built-in homing devices.

I have to admit, my aim was pretty good. But, one particular cream pie went astray. I’d never do anything to harm Mrs. Lurker. After all, she’d been so good to me over the past few weeks. But this was a situation that had quickly gotten out of control. I threw a pie, aiming for a tall kid dressed like a pony, but he dived out of the way and the cream pie hit Mrs. Lurker right in the face.

It seemed the attack on his wife was a step too far! Mr. Lurker had had enough. He leaned over the counter, grabbed my square head and pulled me into the air.

“I’ve got him! ” he yelled, as all the kids and the mob outside let out a colossal cheer!

I know it was Halloween, but this witch-hunt had gotten out of control!

He dragged me back onto the sports field and began to cart me towards the street. I didn’t know if we were heading to the police station or the Lurker’s house. Seeing the look Mr. Lurker’s face, I quietly hoped we were heading to see the cops. I had a feeling they’d be more forgiving. But, as we passed the police station it was clear that the destination was Lucy’s house. I realized at that moment, I had to escape.

I couldn’t understand it. After all, all I wanted to do was save them all from the man-eating Zombies and exploding Creepers. No one seemed to appreciate everything I was trying to do. Then I thought about what the Zombies and Creepers would do to Lucy if I was caught. As I started thinking about it, I started getting madder and madder. Then I felt my eyes glowing red hot. I looked at Mr. Lurker’s arm. Suddenly, a blast shot out of my eyes and hit Mr. Lurker right on the elbow. He let go of me with a squeal. And as I dropped to the floor, I took my chance. I could see the wizard boy’s house. I ran towards it as fast as I could. The Minecraft portal had to be destroyed!

  Chapter 11

  Face-off at the Portal

I busted through the side gate of the wizard boy’s house and could hear the crowd in pursuit. I ran through into the garden, and there it was – the Minecraft Portal!

I quickly searched for something to destroy it with. There was nothing around except a rake and a water hose. I’d never tried to destroy a portal before, but I figured neither of those would get the job done.

Suddenly, I heard the side gate swing open. I had to hide. The backdoor to the house was open, so I dashed inside, switched off all the lights and hid behind the couch.

I kept as still as I could, and covered my glowing eyes as I heard the mob stampede into the back garden.

“Where is he?” I heard Mr. Lurker cry.

“He’s not behind the portal,” a boy replied.

  “Check the shed,” another added.

I could hear them turning things upside down as they looked everywhere for me.

I could see the front door. Part of me wanted to quietly make my escape – to leave the town and never return. But, if I did that the portal would stay open and more Minecraft monsters will enter through the portal and take over the human world. And what about Lucy? After thinking about it for a few seconds, I realized that wasn’t an option.

I peered over the top of the couch. I could see through the French doors at the back of the room into the garden. Someone glanced my way. I gasped and lowered my head quickly.

I held still. It was then that I felt a warm breath beside my ear. I slowly turned my head. I was staring face to face with the wizard boy’s dog!

I tried to smile but I could tell the dog was really mad that I was in its house. I was a stranger all right, and I guess I was a weird looking one at that!

I held still as long as I could – then the dog attacked!

It lunged at me, gnashing its teeth. I had no option. I leapt over the top of the couch and ran into the back garden with the big, hairy dog chasing after me.

I ran into the garden, tripping over a small step and crawling through the legs of the mob. After I got through the crowd, I found myself right in front of the portal. The mob went silent. I stood up. Lucy was at the front. I grabbed her hand and pulled her forward.

“Let her go!” cried the wizard boy, holding out his staff.

“Don’t you try and use that magic staff on me,” I cried. “Or I’ll jump into the portal!”

The wizard boy held his staff higher and stepped forwards. As he did, I could see the Creepers and Zombies advancing behind him. I had tried my best to escape, but I could see I had no options left. I grabbed Lucy tight, closed my eyes and jumped into the portal!

I expected to feel something weird as I headed into another dimension. I hadn’t been through a Minecraft portal in a long time, but I do remember that the experience was really trippy. But I was really worried about Lucy. I didn’t know what effect going into the Minecraft world was going to have on her.

After a few seconds, for some strange reason I didn’t feel anything. So, I took a deep breath and opened my eyes. To my complete surprise, I was still standing in the wizard boy’s garden. I was facing the shed and the back gate with the portal behind me.
/>
Suddenly, Lucy pulled away from me and climbed back though the portal.

I couldn’t believe it. What was she doing? I kind of had a feeling that jumping though the portal several times would probably be bad for her health.

But then I took a look at the outer structure of the portal. It seemed more flimsy than any portal I remembered from The Overworld. Still, we were in the human world now, so maybe this was how Minecraft portals were supposed to look here.

I tapped on it. It sounded hollow. Then, I examined the purple glow in the middle. I stuck my hand in it, expecting it to react. But, nothing happened. I grabbed a stick from the garden and shoved it through the middle. To my surprise, it seemed to just pass through some sort of purple fabric.

Then I decided to look through the center. I poked my head through as the purple curtain parted. Unfortunately, on the other side, the mob was still there waiting for me. Except Lucy was also there, and this time, with Zombies and Creepers standing next to her!

  Chapter 12

  The Spooky Truth

I was in shock. The purple haze was just an old purple curtain, and the Minecraft portal was flimsy. It looked like the Minecraft portal was a fake!

But, then how did the Zombies and Creepers get into the real world? I thought.

As one of the Creepers held Lucy’s arm, I felt my body stiffen up. I was scared for Lucy. I didn’t want to make any sudden movements in case the Creeper was about to explode. I was going to have to remain calm.

“Take it easy and walk slowly towards me,” I whispered to Lucy as the mob stared at me, each of them with a frown on their face.
