The last thing I saw was her slender hand up on the window saying good-bye. This was just like when I first saw her. I held up my hand to wave good-bye, remembering the first time as if it were only yesterday. I watched the cab turn onto the highway, and she was gone.
I lost it, collapsing on my knees with a loud wail as my tears started falling. For the first time in my life, I cried like a baby.
John came over and put his hand on my shoulder. He didn’t say a word, just stood there giving me his silent support. I was beyond comprehending anything he had to say to me. I didn’t care if everyone on the ship saw me; right at that moment, the love of my life was gone, and I felt empty inside.
The grief washed over me, leaving me feeling helpless.
