Feels Like the First Time

He ran a hand over his face praying for patience. He made it look like waiting any longer wasn't even an option, and I giggled feeling like I couldn't wait either.

"When we leave this place, you have ten minutes to go home and get your little blankets or whatever else you need and meet me in the barn."

I looked into his gorgeous, dark eyes and smiled, imagining the possibilities.

  Epilogue

I worked for KROC for four years before I finally got my own show. I took over Shaun Murphy's afternoon slot when he retired and plan to stay until they kick me out or offer me a morning show—whichever comes first. I still have trouble believing that I get money for goofing off on the air and listening to music, but I'm not asking any questions. I just keep showing up to do it, and they keep paying me.

I have the feeling I'm not going to work next week, though. My OB-GYN says I'm dilated eight centimeters, and I'd likely be having a baby within the next twenty-four hours—two of them actually. Twins.

I guess it runs in my family.

Caleb and I almost kept the babies' gender a secret until I delivered, but we figured with having two at once, it'd probably be best to prepare. We were both thrilled when the ultrasound showed that we were having two boys. We're naming them Lennon and Ezra since a little bit of Bible and a little bit of rock star seemed to fit with our family.

Caleb's business was doing better than he ever dreamed. His dad helped him get started, but Caleb was a natural at it, and had long-since took the Little Rock location off of his dad's hands.

Just then, Caleb came into the room. I looked up at him and he smiled broadly at me. He was carrying the bag we packed for this very occasion.

  "Any contractions?"

  "Nothing yet," I said.

"I talked to my mom," he said. "She and dad are on their way."

"Coleen and Earl are coming too."

"I'm sure Esther and Aaron won't be far behind. We're gonna fill up a waiting room."

I sighed, feeling the oddest mix of peace and fear.

"You feeling all right?" he asked. He sat next to me on the edge of the hospital bed, and turned to face me. He reached out for my hand. I still felt that lovely sense of anticipation every time he touched me.

  "I'm good," I said. "I'm glad you're here."

He glanced at the television that was turned off, and then smiled and looked me over curiously as if he was searching for a phone or whatever else must have been keeping me company while he was downstairs. "What were you doing when I came in?" he asked.

"I was just catching our reader up on everything that happened."

He smiled. "Did you tell them we got married?"

"No, but I told them we were having twins, so I figured they'd figure."

He narrowed his eyes at me. "You have to tell them about the wedding," he said.

It was a big wedding. I wore a huge, white gown, half the town was there, and we have tons of really cool black and white photographs to show for it. Maybe I was a little reluctant about all the attention, but really, it was a nice wedding.

"There. I told them about the wedding," I said.

"Did you tell them I built you a house with a barn for Cucumber?"

  "Not yet."

  "What did you tell them?"

"I told them about the boys since that happened to be what was on my mind this hot little second."

He smiled and gently laid a hand on my big, round belly.

"I told them we were both happy with our jobs," I added.

"Did you tell them you got your own show?"

"Yep, and about the construction business taking off."

"Did you tell them how much I love you?"

I smiled. "They already knew that."
