Mission Almost Impossible

“I don’t think so. I would never have been sent to Earth if you could not survive here. There’s nothing here that would harm you in any way.”

“All right.” She sighed and took in a shaky breath. “It’s just that—”

She felt Jerin go stiff and his hands stilled. She moved away from him to see what had caused that reaction.

“Something has changed!” His smile was back. “I should have realized it sooner.”

“Jerin, what are you talking about?”

“You, me, us… It’s so simple.” He seemed ready to laugh, bursting with joy.

  “What is so simple?”

“Kaley.” He took a breath and seemed to be savoring the moment. He looked like the proverbial cat that ate the canary.

  “What?”

He took her hand in his and brought it to his lips. A gentle kiss was placed on the back of it and then he pressed his cheek to it. He closed his eyes and sighed, a sound filled with great satisfaction. Then he turned his head to look into her eyes.

  “You’re pregnant.”

“I’m pregnant? How can that be?”

  “We just made love, remember?”

“Yes, but we’ve done that many times before.”

  “Today, you weren’t protected.”

Her body slumped as the truth of that statement set in. He wrapped his arms around her. She gave in to the feeling of despair that washed over her. A tear slipped from her eye and she struggled to control a sniffle.

  “Are you crying?”

  “No.”

He moved her so he could see her face.

  “Liar.”

  She gave a weak smile.

“Tell me what’s on your mind.”

“Will I ever see Earth and my family again?” Somehow she’d accepted the situation, as incredible as it seemed, as real.

He sat there for many breaths. He didn’t lie, so she had a feeling that he was trying to find some way to let her down easily.

“Kaley.” He took her hands into his and moved his thumbs over their backs while he searched her face.

She held her breath preparing for the shattering truth.

  “Yes?” she managed to whisper.

She was sure that all trace of color had deserted her face.

“I believe with all of my heart and soul that the daydream you had on Earth is about to become our reality.”

She stared at him dumbly. The words hung in the air a moment before their meaning hit home. She’d wanted that dream to be true more than anything she’d ever wanted before, or since. Everything in it was what her heart truly desired, and now it was actually happening.

  “My daydream … our reality?”

She threw her arms around Jerin’s neck. “I’m going to hold you to that,” she whispered as she started to nibble on his ear.

  THE END

  Author Biography

I have a passion for writing fantasy with a bit of romance (sometimes quite erotic) thrown in for good measure. My Mystic Museum series with SirenBookstrand is a testament to that.

I’m the first to admit that my life could be considered quite boring. Maybe that’s why I plunge into writing. Lol. My mind can be a wonderful place filled with unique characters and unknown destinations.

I’ve raised identical twin girls. One of those lovely ladies has made me a grandmother. Their father and I have been divorced for about twenty years, almost as long as we were married. The Ex and I are still friends.

I am currently involved in another long-term relationship with the man I consider my soul mate. See, I’m boring, but I must be doing something right to have had two such loves in my life.
