“KB...you okay?” she asked, as I held her hips, remaining still and not moving.

I felt dizzy. Spots were moving around in my line of vision.

  “KB?”

  “Uh, yeah, babe.”

And then I tried to purge the thought from my brain. In a series of jerky movements, I sped up my pace and began hammering that pussy as though I were trying to kill it.

  “Aighh!”

The thumping sound of my balls slapping against her replaced the original song we created.

“Fuck, KB!” she cried out as she reached around and spread herself wider for me.

I could no longer think. I was a madman unleashed, striking out at everything within reach. My dick hit every curve and angle as it slid from one wall and bounced to the other.

Madison’s hands turned to fists and began pounding on the piano.

Me? I was out of breath, tears blurring my vision, my nose flaring and teeth bared, I felt as if I were going insane.

Releasing her hips, I slid a hand in front of her and stroked her nipple before twisting and pinching it.

  She cried out again.

My other hand grabbed a lock of her long hair and jerked it.

“Tell me this is my pussy!” I growled in her ear.

“It’s your pussy, KB!” she grunted back.

“Swear nobody else is tasting, touching, stroking, fucking, or killing this pussy but me.”

  “I swear!” she cried out.

“Swear what, Mads?” I grunted angrily as my harried pace continued.

“I swear nobody’s doing anything to this pussy but you,” she cried.

And with that confirmation, I went straight over the edge. Releasing Madison’s hair, my body began jerking backward and down. My hands held onto her waist to keep us connected. Her hands reached back and clamped down over mine as she thrust her ass at me, giving me her all.

I knew she was right with me, but I was barely aware of it. Tears stung my eyes, my mouth hung open as a pool of saliva gathered there, and my ears rang.

  We panted and gasped.

And then we heard what we had missed before; someone’s presence in the room with us. I’d never heard the door open.

Looking over my shoulder, I spotted my father, glaring at us.

“Kent, when you’ve finished, your guests are waiting for you. Your mother’s been searching all over for you. Glad I found you first. Madison, make sure to clean up. Your dress is a bit crumpled,” he said, before pulling the door closed on him.

  “Fuck!” she cried out.

I pulled out of her slowly, grabbing the handkerchief I’d worn in my suit jacket. Tonight was one of the few times I wore a suit, and I was thankful I had.

I used it to wipe Madison first, before cleaning myself. Pulling my pants up, I tossed the handkerchief in the trash for the housekeeper to dispose of later.

“You good?” I asked, looking at her.

“What do you mean, am I good? Your dad caught us in here, fucking! How am I supposed to be good with that, KB? I thought we were supposed to keep this between us! How in the fuck is it that everyone knows?”

“Who other than Nic and Grey?” I asked.

“Mitch and Blake. And now, your father, which also means your mother!”

“Trust me,” I laughed bitterly, “Mom won’t know. He’s damned good at keeping secrets from her.”

She shook her head, looking disgruntled and confused.

  “I can’t do this, Kent.”

“Can’t do what?” I frowned, recalling the discovery I’d made and her recent promises that she was mine.

“This...this thing we’re trying to do. It’s creating too much discord, and I can’t do this.”

“What do you mean you can’t do ‘this,’?”

I walked up to her and held her face in my hands.

“I can’t lose myself in a relationship, Kent,” she said, throwing my words back at me. “Isn’t that what you warned me about? So, this is me not losing myself!”

I felt like shit. I had said those words to Madison but had never expected them to come back and bite me in the ass.

“Mads, don’t do this. I know what I said, but that’s because you didn’t blossom under Steve’s care. I lo...care about you, girl! I would never do anything to hurt you; I want the best for you. Your dreams, hopes, future, worries, all that shit matters to me. Do you understand? Don’t let what others think define us, okay?”

She sighed. Shaking her head, she replied, “Okay,” but she didn’t look sure.

  CHAPTER 24 – KENT

“Have you finished your photoshoot yet, Kent?”

“Yes, Veronica, we just finished the shoot for the watches,” I said, glancing at the one on my wrist.

My watch line was known as Black Chrome.

“Good, you have forty-five minutes before your appointment with the scientist to test out that new fragrance she’s created. But...Jasper Rone wants to know if you have fifteen minutes for a phone call while you’re traveling to the next destination. He wants to talk to you about extending your clothing line from casual attire to include suits.”

I sighed. “How many times do I have to say I’m not into suits? I wear suits when I have to. That’s not my go-to style, Veronica!” I shouted in exasperation. “XClusive is the only clothing line I’m interested in. it represents my style.”

My assistant knew me well enough not to take it personally. She knew I wasn’t shouting at her specifically but about the situation.

“I know, Kent. I’ve told him a million times, as well, but he insists on speaking to you about it. I think if you took his call, you could get the message through to him that I’ve been trying to convey for the last few weeks,” she stated firmly.

Sighing, I agreed. “You’re right. I’ll call Jas in fifteen from a secure line. I’ve got a more important call to make first,” I stated.

“Good, I’ll let him know. Oh, and the mock-up for the new jerseys for XClusive came back. I’ve sent the pictures to your email.”

“Great, I’ll check them out. Set up a meeting with Greyson and Riley on Friday to discuss the project.”

“You don’t have any available time on Friday, your schedule’s blocked.”

I smiled. That was all for Madison.

  “Cool. Make it Monday afternoon.”

“Okay, I’ll let you know when I have it scheduled.”

“Thanks, Veronica,” I said before clicking off the line.

Quickly I dialed Madison to confirm our plans for this evening.

“Hey, babe. I just finished my photoshoot, and I was headed to the lab to test out this new fragrance the scientist created.”

“Sounds exciting, KB,” she said, although her voice didn’t project enthusiasm.

“Yeah, well. I wanted to make sure we’re still on for tonight.”

“Umm, you know it’s going to rain, right?”

“What’s that got to do with anything?” I asked, a frown forming between the ridges of my eyebrows.

  “Nothing,” she said.

“There’s something. If there weren’t, you wouldn’t have brought it up. What’s going on?”

She blew out a deep breath. “Sometimes, people aren’t willing to go out in the rain. Everyone isn’t crazy about it, that’s all.”

“Okay, babe. Do you want to stay in?”

I was worried about Madison because she’d been down since the closing of the facility. Greyson and I had a plan to assist her, but I wouldn’t say anything to her. I wanted it to be a surprise, and we were still checking out spaces for her program while we had begun to move forward on my project.

  “I’m fine. It’s whatever.”

“Tell you what. I’ll be over there when I’m done, and we’ll go to the little market at the end of your block and pick up a few items. I’ll cook for you tonight,” I suggested.

“Except you can’t, KB,” she laughed, giving me the first genuine laugh I’d heard from her in a wh
ile.

“I can. You have no idea what I can whip up in the kitchen. Just give me a shot,” I said.

“Okay, but don’t come burning up my kitchen, dude,” Madison replied.

“Promise, I won’t. Look, I have to go. I’ve got a call to make before my next meeting. I’ll call you when I’m on the way. Okay?”

  “All right.”

Clicking off the call, I wondered how did I tell her my true feelings; that I loved her.

  CHAPTER 25 – MADISON

I had been reticent about moving forward in my relationship with Kent. He’d finally convinced me he wanted to be with me and no one else. We talked late into the night after he’d prepared a meal of penne pasta, salad, paired with a Riesling, and a cheesecake for dessert.

Last night was a first for us...since we’d been in a relationship. We had not had sex once, kissing, yes. And then I had fallen asleep in his arms in my bed.

When we’d awoken this morning, he’d been running late. He’d had to return home for a shower before a ten o’clock meeting. I had nothing on my plate for the day and opted to remain home cleaning.

I was on cloud nine because of the news I’d just received. I received an invitation to tour with the Contemporary National Ballet Company. One of their dancers was injured, and they needed a replacement. The lead dancer was someone I had worked with while in New York, and she recommended me as the replacement.

We would be going on tour in five cities for the next four months. We would do ten days in each city before we took a break. I was so excited and couldn’t wait to share my news with Kent.

The more excited I became, the more I started dancing around the house. I danced while I cleaned.

That’s what I was doing when my doorbell rang a few minutes past eleven.

Peering out the peephole, I was shocked to see Steve on the other side of the door. His fingers were combing through his perfectly coiffed hair, as he looked left and right.

What the hell did he want? He was not about to ruin my good mood.

Before I could formulate a possibility in my mind, he rang the doorbell again.

Jerking it open, I scowled at him. “What do you want?”

He sighed. “Look, I know I’m not on your list of favorite people, and it’s been a while since we spoke. But I need to talk to you, Madi. It’s urgent.”

“We have nothing to talk about, Steve.”

“Well, I happen to disagree. If I didn’t think so, I wouldn’t have been calling you nonstop. But my calls are going directly to voicemail.”

“I blocked you,” I said, crossing my arms over my chest.

“Look, I understand you’re still angry with me. You’ve got every right to be. And I never properly apologized for the occurrence between Cindy and me.”

“I don’t want your apologies, Steve. I want you to go on with your life and let me go on with mine.”

“I’m perfectly happy to do that, Madi. But I came across some information I think you should know...it’s about the center.”

Hoping I would not regret my decision, I pulled the door open further, stepping aside and allowing him entrance.

“I’ll be right back. I need to go wash the bleach off my hands,” I muttered, leaving Steve behind.

When I returned, I found Steve pacing my living room floor, running his fingers through his blonde hair. I could tell he hadn’t had a haircut in a while because it was curling at his shoulders.

He stopped pacing and turned his blue gaze on me.

“Why didn’t you break it off with me? Did you enjoy stringing me along like a toy?”

“Of course not, Madi. I just...there was always all these women around. Women with power, money, and prestige. Women who wanted nothing from me but sex. No money. No commitment. I don’t know; I just fell into the trap. Once I started, I couldn’t stop.”

“Once you started, you couldn’t stop. How long, Steve?”

He shrugged. “A year. A year and a half?”

  I scoffed. I couldn’t believe this asshole.

“You know what, don’t say anything more. You made your choice and moved on with your life.”

“I felt as if I owed you an explanation though, Madi. To bring closure to us.”

I turned away from him and stared out the window.

Guilt weighed down on me like an oppressive storm cloud. Just having Steve in the same space that Kent had been in not so long ago felt wrong. I needed to get him out of my place and out of my life once and for all.

“What is it about the center you want to share with me, Steve?” I asked, dropping down on my couch.

He sighed and came to sit on the loveseat across from me.

“Recently, I learned the center that you volunteer at was closing. My firm represented the company that was in charge of selling the property.”

“So, what does that have to do with me?”

“The sale of the property was slashed by one million dollars. That in itself was a red flag when it first came to my attention. But I researched it further and learned the Vantage Property Group purchased the property.”

Shrugging my shoulders, I said, “And. Still don’t see the connection to me.”

He pulled his phone out of his jacket pocket and clicked on something. Coming to sit beside me, he showed me his screen.

“I researched the property group. They’re relatively new. There are two partners, and I had to dig deeper to find out about the third party, but there’s a third silent partner in the group.”

“Would you get to the point, Steve?”

“Madison, the point is Kent Black, and Riley Herndon are the Vantage Property Group. Their silent partner is his brother, Greyson Black.”

I’m sure Steve continued to talk because I heard murmuring. It was a faint buzzing sound like the one bees make when they’re present but not close. That distant sound that warns you trouble is on the horizon.

In my case, trouble had arrived. I didn’t want to accept it. I refused to accept it.

Shaking my head, I said, “How do you know this, Steve? Are you sure about that, because Kent wouldn’t do that to me.”

“Madison, here’s his signature on the paperwork.”

I stared at the screen, recognizing the familiarity of it.

“And here’s his signature on paperwork identifying him as the principal owner of the company,” he said, once again shoving his phone into my hand.

The evidence I held in my hand was irrefutable. My blurred vision didn’t allow me to see anything else.

I stayed in my seat for a long while. Steve was peering at me in genuine confusion. Steve took my hands into his.

“Madison, is there something you aren’t telling me?”

  “Like what, Steve?”

“What’s going on between you and this guy, huh?”

“Nothing. Kent’s my best friend. That’s all,” I lied.

“I know you don’t owe me an explanation anymore, Madi. So, you don’t have to lie to me. You and this guy have been close for quite a while, and usually, when guys and girls are best friends, the guy expects something in return,” Steve stated, his fuzzy blonde eyebrows dipped down.

“Look, it’s not like that,” I said, pulling my hands from his.

I still had trouble claiming him. Especially now, I knew he made a fool of me. That was what I had been concerned about all along. The last thing I wanted or needed was for people to know I had trusted him enough to hand him my heart. Only for it to be given back to me. I felt so humiliated and hurt.

I stood and placed some distance between Steve and me, not comfortable with the direction of the conversation nor the fact he felt okay questioning me. Worst, I didn’t like the fact I thought I needed to lie to him.

  “Well, if you say so.”

“I say so,” I said, turning to face him.

He nodded solemnly and said. “Okay.”

The idea of defending Kent, knowing what he had done, was evil.

  Yet, I c
ouldn’t let go of Kent.

I felt like I needed him.

His touch. His kiss. His presence. His body.

“Madison, did you hear me?” Steve asked, coming to sit beside me on the window seat I’d moved to.

  I shook my head. “No, I didn’t.”

“I uh...I asked if I could have my phone back,” Steve said, extending his hand towards me.

I looked down, confused. I still clutched Steve’s phone tightly in my hand. The offending object that was the bane of my existence. That damned phone was the thing that had turned my world upside down and changed my life as I knew it.

Shoving his phone back at him, I stood from the window seat.

  “I think you’d better go.”

  “Madison, I—”

“Steve, I said you’d better go,” I insisted more firmly this time.

“Look, I’m sorry. I didn’t come here to hurt you. I came to let you know what was going on. I had a feeling you had no clue, and I’m certain Black wouldn’t tell you that. It’s the same way his father operates. Get what you want at all costs, no cares to who gets stepped on along the way.”

“How would you know that, Steve?”

“Victor Black’s reputation in the business world precedes him. The reason Kent was able to get that property for less than one million dollars was that he called in a favor someone owed him. The attorney that represented the other group stated the Vantage Property Group placed pressure on his client to sell it to him for less than it’s worth, despite the fact there were other offers much higher than the asking price. The residents of South Fulton had ideas for the property if they could have gained it. The potential buyers of the property wanted to enhance the existing center along with the houses in the surrounding area. But the Blacks won’t let anyone beat them out. And it’s a well-known fact the youngest son gets whatever he wants,” Steve said, his eyes casually suggestively raking over me.

  “Leave, Steve.”

“I’m sorry,” he said again, shoving his phone into his pocket and turning to leave.

When he got to the front door, he turned and looked at me over his shoulder.

“Madison. I’m sorry I hurt you. And I’m sorry Black has hurt you. But don’t continue to be that doormat for him.”
