The Lies: The Lies We Tell About Love, Life, and Everything in Between

With that, he laid down a stack of what had to be six different “draw two” cards, all against Iris, who only had one card in her hand. Around the table, a chorus of “oooh” went up, but Iris didn’t look bothered. Instead, she smiled.
“The need for vengeance has destroyed many men,” she said, then laid down her card – another “draw two” that she could simply add to the stack instead of having to pull for herself. “Uno out, muhfucka,” she laughed, and Derrick threw his cards down, shoving away from the table, mumbling something about checking on the grill.
While they – Rob, Iris, Derrick, Gia, Kyle – moved outside to the back patio, I slipped away. We were at Kyle’s house, but over the last few weeks I’d grown very familiar with his home, and the layout. I was… comfortable.
I’d woken up yesterday in one of those depressive states, and neither my morning run nor the smoothie after helped. I’d had a session with Dr. Layla where she dredged up a bunch of feelings of inadequacy that I really had no interest in facing, but that wasn’t what I was in therapy for. She made me face them. She made me challenge them. She made me acknowledge how pointless, and damaging they were. And then she gave me homework, to dispel them.
Honestly… after the session, I felt better.
A lot better.
I woke up this morning, at Kyle’s place, still feeling good, but incredibly tired, and I was still drained. But we had plans – a little cookout, with our friends. Tired or not, I wanted to be in the mix. I just needed a little breather.
Instead of going to the main bathroom, I went to Kyle’s, and closed the door behind me. I smiled at the sticky note I’d put there for myself – and maybe him too – a little earlier. Everybody could use positive affirmations, right?
“You deserve all the positive things that are happening for you.” My note read. But then, stuck to the bottom, was another note, that I read and then laughed.
“You deserve the dick I’m gonna give you later when these folks get outta my house.”
“Silly ass,” I said out loud, then lifted my hands to fluff out my curls. A second later, a knock sounded at the door.
“Hey, you good?” Kyle called out, and I reached for the handle, pulling it open.
“Yeah. Was just taking a second to myself.”
His eyes grazed over me. “You finished?”
“Sure, I guess,” I chuckled. “I’ll be right out.”
He shook his head. “Nah, I’m trying to come to you,” he said, easing through the door, and closing it behind him. I grinned as he wrapped his arms around me, holding me with his chest against my back as he dipped his head, kissing my neck. “Why’d you wear this dress, huh? What are you trying to do to me.”
“Trying?” I asked, pressing back against his dick. “As hard as you are, I’m pretty sure I succeeded.”
I’d definitely worn this dress on purpose. An olive green maxi that left my whole back exposed, with a strappy kind of halter-style front that made my breasts look amazing. I knew he’d like it.
I whimpered a little as he pushed me up to the counter, kissing my neck harder. “Kyle,” I breathed. “You’re… gonna… leave… marks.”
“You say that like I’m supposed to care,” he grunted, grazing his teeth over my neck.
His hands came up, gripping my breasts through the thin fabric of the dress. His fingers found my nipples, pinching and squeezing them into hard peaks. I groaned, annoyed, when he took them away, using them instead to hike my dress up around my hips, and then over my head, with no regard for the way the straps had been tied.
I kicked my feet out of my simple sandals as he tugged my panties down my legs, and off, then quickly undressed himself. When he approached me again from behind, I started to turn around, but he stopped me, meeting my eyes in the mirror, and shook his head.
“Watch.”
He put a hand to my back and pushed, urging me to bend over, with my hands on the counter. I moaned when he eased into me, grabbing my hips for anchor as he sank until he was buried deep, then pulled out, and did it all over again.
He moved his hands back up to my breasts, holding them as he plunged into me from behind. I knew he wanted me to watch, but it felt so good I had to close my eyes, getting lost in the feeling of having him inside of me.
“Kyle, shit,” I moaned as he readjusted, propping my leg up on the counter.
He leaned into me, chuckling in my ear before he grazed my earlobe with his teeth. “Feels good, doesn’t it?”
“Yes.”
“Whose pussy is this?”
I smirked. “Mine.”
He paused.
On the next stroke, he went deeper, harder. That became the new set-point, and before long I was up on my toes, moaning as loud as I felt like, not really caring if the others heard.
“Whose is it now?” He asked, and I shook my head.
“Still mine,” I answered, to which he responded with a grunt. He moved one hand between my legs, the other up to my shoulder, holding me in place as he drove into me. Eventually, that hand on my shoulder moved to my neck as he stroked me deeper, faster, harder. I had one foot in the sink, and my other toes were barely touching the floor.
It was blissful.
I was so wet that his fingers slipped and slid easily over my clit as he rubbed it in tight, fast circles. He leaned into me again, mouth against the side of my neck, sucking and biting and he was in me so deep and it felt so, so good that the next time he asked, “Whose pussy is this?” I screamed the answer he was looking for.
“Yours. All yours.”
Afterwards, he pulled me into the shower to wash up. I don’t know how long we lingered there, but by the time we dressed again, and joined the others, the sun was heading down and we had another guest for dinner, apparently. When we stepped outside to see what was going on with the food, I noticed Manny was there now, off to one side talking to Gia.
“What is that about?” I asked Iris, sitting beside her on one of the cushioned benches that sat against the wall.
Iris shook her head. “Work stuff. I keep telling him she’s going to quit if he doesn’t stop working her so hard.”
“I would think he’d be easy about it, after he ruined her birthday,” I added. Even after Kyle had taken Zion for me, Manny had called Gia with an “emergency” while we were all at her place getting ready. I wasn’t really sure how she managed not to curse him out.
“When she gets sick enough of him, she’ll drop his ass, and he’ll beg her to come back.” Iris sighed, then really looked at me. “But uh… where y’all been for the last 45 minutes?”
Rob laughed. “The same place we would have been for the last 45 minutes if this little get together was at our spot. You know.”
“Oh I do,” Iris smirked. “I just want to point out that they both came back looking well-fucked. I need us to look like that later, okay?”
“You know I’ve got you,” he said, grabbing her chin to give her a kiss that was very… not safe for work. They’d been drinking, and the way she climbed in his lap to deepen the kiss was plenty of evidence – more likely than not, they’d be crashing in a spare bedroom.
“Uggggh,” Derrick called from the grill. “Get a damn room! Nobody wants to see that.”
“You’re just mad one of your fifty girlfriends isn’t here,” Kyle laughed, and Derrick shook his head.
“How you gonna do me like that, bruh. Weren’t you all emotional and shit cause everybody thought you were a hoe?”
Kyle flipped him off. “That’s cause the shit wasn’t true. I’m still mad you were flying under the radar as the real floozy of the group.”
“Nigga did you just call me a floozy?!”
“Is it a lie?”
“…. I mean… can it at least be like… a moozy or something? A male floozy? I can’t get my own word?”
All of us burst out laughing at that, and Kyle sat down, wrapping an arm around my shoulder. I leaned into him, resting my head against his chest as I wat
ched the fire the others had started in the firepit in the middle of the patio. After a few moments had passed, I felt eyes on me, and I looked up to see that Iris and Rob had stopped sucking face and were watching us.
“Y’all look good together,” Rob said, when he realized I was watching them watch us. “I was ready to box with Kyle about you B. Did he tell you that?”
I lifted up to look at Kyle, who seemed amused. “No, he didn’t. I had no idea you too were into it!”
Kyle shrugged. “Because we weren’t. It wasn’t a big thing. He thought I was going to hurt your feelings, so he went into big brother mode. Turns out…”
“Oh stop,” I laughed, resting my head down again. “Why did you think he was going to hurt my feelings, Rob?”
“It was my bad,” Rob answered, then kissed Iris’ head when she rested on his shoulder. “One thing I know about Kyle, he’s never been a bullshitter. When he said he was done for real with Audrey, I should have known he meant it. I’d seen what “done” looked like before. This was different.”
“Because of you, we now know,” Iris added, with a smile.
Gia and Manny came over, and they all started talking about something else. I looked up at Kyle again to find him already looking at me. He leaned in, giving me the kind of kiss that wasn’t sexual at all, but I still felt it all the way down to my toes.
When he pulled back, he met my eyes, then smiled. The kind of smile that I also felt all the way down to my toes.
“You okay?” he asked, and I thought about it for a second before I answered.
This time, when I said, “I’m good.” I wasn’t lying to him, or myself.
I meant it.
Because I really, really was.
