“Naw…it means I hope you like the warm weather, cuz we moving together.”

I laughed and kissed him again. “I was getting ready to say!” I was still caught up in the mood when I remembered something. “How did they know you were there?”

“Zeeway got that Onstar shit in his car. So they were able to track him. They woulda been found my ass a long time ago but had trouble finding out what building I was in. I think they even went to Wayne’s because he must’ve went there too.”

“Yeah…we weren’t at Miss Wayne’s too long before we left and he took me to the apartment. I hope they lock his bitch ass under the jail.”

“That nigga not goin’ back to jail,” Jay laughed.

“Why not? He was just involved in this shit as everybody else.”

“They found his ass behind the wheel of his car dead. He must’ve got somebody else fucked up.”

In all the drama I forgot about my friend Kelsi who saved my life. And I hoped in the future I’d be able to thank him, although I doubt it was about that with him. Real niggas do real shit.

For some reason, despite all the dismay, I felt content, relaxed, happy and most of all in love. With the possibility of my relationship with my mother being renewed, I could finally exhale, and live my life. To the fullest.

  Smokes

Smokes walked around his home in hysterics. He couldn’t reach Zeeway. He couldn’t even find Tate, the man that held Jay at gunpoint. And most of all, he couldn’t locate Parade. When his phone rang he hesitated at first because he knew who it was. Ace was not only expecting the cash Parade was to wear taped to her body, but she was also supposed to be sold as product in the sex trade.

“Today is your last day,” Ace said. “If she doesn’t get off that plane today, you might as well kill yourself.”

“Fuck you, nigga!” Smokes said arrogantly knowing that all was lost anyway. He figured he might as well talk shit in his last hours.

“You gonna wish you didn’t say that.”

Without responding Smokes hung up. He was just getting ready to place one last call to find out what was going on when he heard a loud crashing noise at the front door followed by heaving running through his home. Could Ace make it here that quick? He thought. He looked out the window and saw cop cars everywhere. He was surrounded. He had two options. Go to jail or kill himself. If he went to jail, Ace would surely have him tortured before being murdered. But if he killed himself, he could go out smooth and choose his own fate.

So instead of panicking, he sat at this desk, threw his feet on top of it and lit one of his Cherry flavored Blunts. Then he downed all of the Ciroc vodka he poured earlier in his glass.

“Freeze! Put your hands up!” one of the cops yelled after busting in his office door. Ten or eleven guns stayed pointed in his direction.

Smokes didn’t budge, just laughed. When he moved to pull open his desk drawer they demanded he freeze again.

“You betta freeze before we shoot, mothafucka! It’s over!” one cop yelled.

He was still laughing until he saw Sweet’s face. Instantly the smile was removed when he saw the badge dangling around her neck. He had a snake in his mist the entire time and didn’t know. Suddenly he wasn’t as cool anymore but wasn’t going to show it.

“I should’ve known you was a stank ass, bitch!” he spat.

“It’s over, Smokes. Why don’t you stand up and surrender? Make this smooth,” Sweets replied.

“Fuck you, bitch,” he yelled as he pulled out the gun from his drawer, put it under his chin, and blew his brains out. And just like that, it was over.

  Everything.

  Epilogue

The large blue beach sparkled under the Cancun sun. People ran barefoot over the yellow warm sand, playing, laughing and wading in the ice blue water. Mexico couldn’t be more beautiful at La Costa Resorts then it was right then.

“Look at, Shanay,” Miss Wayne fussed as he laid stretched out on one of the lawn chairs. His purple toe nail polish glistened while he sported his yellow female bathing suit. Even though he was far too muscular for it, he didn’t care. As far as he was concerned, he was the hottest thing on the beach. “She has all that sand in her bikini bottoms. Shanay!” he yelled directing his attention to Daffany’s baby. “Bring yourself over here!”

Shanay wobbled over to Miss Wayne knowing she was in for something. Although she was a two year old baby, she could always tell by the tone of his voice when she was in trouble.

“Leave that baby alone,” Daffany laughed sipping on a Pina Colada. The royal blue two piece bikini she sported looked sexy on her fit body. She was taking care of herself and hadn’t used drugs in over two years. And because she was taking the cocktails for her HIV disease, she was feeling much better too. “You worse than me.”

Miss Wayne shook his head and lifted the baby onto his lap. Once there, he brushed her off with his bare hands. He took his God mother status to a whole nother level. He was always so worried about her.

“He is something else,” Parade added wearing the same black and rhinestone bathing suit she wore the day she and Jay made real love. “But I’m sure she knows he loves her.”

“I sure do,” Miss Wayne confirmed. “And I’m gonna do the same thing when you pop that one out of your belly.”

Parade laughed and rubbed her three month pregnant belly with her left hand which was covered with her wedding ring.

“Doubt it,” Jay interrupted kissing Parade on her cheek. They were all on their lawn chairs next to each other looking at the sparkling water. “I got this over here!”

“Boy, bye!” Miss Wayne joked. “You family now so you might as well find out that I get’s into everybody’s business. Including your wife’s.”

Jay didn’t respond, just reached over and kissed his beautiful wife on the lips.

Miss Wayne, Daffany, Parade and Jay decided it was time to take a vacation. Life for the friends couldn’t be better. They all moved to L.A. and purchased a beautiful brick apartment building with the cash Parade was smart enough to tuck away while living with Smokes and the money Jay had stashed from being in the drug game so long.

Parade opened up a make-up store while Daffany and Miss Wayne sold clothes in their boutique. Jay on the other hand got involved in real estate and bought and sold property in and around L.A. To say they were well off was an understatement.

Things had gotten better for the friends, but really good for Parade. Although her relationship with her mother was not perfect, she could at least call and speak to her without being emotionally broken down. Parade knew her mother was trying to do better, and that’s all she could ask for. Parade knew it would take some time for them to be close, but she was willing to work at it. Her father on the other hand loved her and called her as often as he could.

Outside of everything, Parade’s marriage to Jay was the best thing that happened to her. For two years he whined and dined her and showed in his actions how much he loved her. He never disrespected her or called her out of her name. He took care of her and proudly showed her around to his new friends in L.A. as the love of his life. He even got his mother to be cordial, after Parade apologized for beating her ass. They were certainly happy together. Life was great. Life was perfect. And it was all because they fought for love. In the end Parade learned that there was no such thing as being Black and Ugly. And if anything, black couldn’t be more beautiful.
