He was waiting for her in the living room that was right off the hallway. The man was in defensive mode that was for sure, deep dark scowl, arms folded and those sex full lips turned down on the ends, and she couldn’t blame him. After months of polite greetings and acting like she had no idea the shape, size and taste of his cock here she was acting like they were the best of friends. Showing up at his home without notice wasn’t something she normally did. Not just to him, she didn’t do it for anyone but she didn’t want to call him and have to explain why she wanted to come because she honestly didn’t know herself. Plus she had a feeling she’d have been blown off, because no one wanted to admit that being rejected hurt. It was easier if you let people think it was nothing, but Rosy knew better and she didn’t want to hear any bullshit excuse she’d just wanted to help. What was funny was how none of them noticed how much he resembled his brothers. He was big like Alec, with a beautiful smile like Beau and could be sweet like Camden. Not to her because she didn’t allow herself to be in his space for long periods of time or alone, but she’d watched him and knew it to be true.

“If you are going to yell at me about hurting your friends then get to it and get going.” Red flopped down onto a comfortable looking gray leather couch that appeared expensive and well loved, looking as if he hadn’t a care in the world and he didn’t give a damn about anyone or anything.Rosy knew that was an act because she perfected this look herself and could see the vulnerability in Red. Arms spread wide, eyes slightly squinted and a scowl. All par for the course. He waited a few minutes before he pushed off the couch and walked over to pour himself a drink. “Would you like to whet your whistle while you think of what to say to me?”

She shook her head almost feeling the waves of emotion that were coming from him. He leaned against the wall and took a sip of the…was that scotch? As Rosy moved closer to him he pushed himself off the wall, put his hands on his hips and cocked his head to the side like he was trying to understand what she wanted and maybe put himself in a better position if she lunged at him. He didn’t try to stop her but he was wary It wasn’t until she moved close enough to touch him that he relaxed his stance just a bit. They stood facing each other like they were about to go head to head in a challenge before she wrapped her arms around his waist and pulled him in for a hug where she lay her head on his chest.

The man froze like he wasn’t sure what to do but she just took a deep breath and tried to give him what she’d always wanted. A hug. Comfort. Something that would help him through this hurtful time. She stayed right where she was listening to his strong heart beat slow to a regular pattern from the wild and fast tempo it was when she first lay her head on him. He cleared his throat and then brought his arms around her. There was something extremely intense about the closeness and power that came from two people connecting and sharing their warmth and personal space.

She could almost feel him settling down. His breathing was more even and the tension in the room was a bit more relaxed. Rosy pulled back and looked at him. “I’m sorry tonight didn’t turn out the way you wanted it to.”

He released her from his embrace, gently unhooked her arms from around his waist and moved away. “It’s not that it didn’t go the way I wanted. I wasn’t supposed to share that information in the first place.” He ran his hands through his hair before sitting on the couch.

“You couldn’t keep it from them forever.” She walked over to where he’d plopped down and sat next to him but not too close. She was trying to be comforting and if her body was getting the message that there was going to be more then she’d just ignore it.

“That was the plan and—hey.” Red turned toward her and glared at her.

  “Yes?”

“So is this what does it for you?”

Rosy didn’t have to act like she didn’t know what he was talking about she really didn’t know. All she could do is shrug.

“You need me to be sad so you can fix me? Is that what this is?”

“I honestly don’t know what you’re talking about. At the bar I was walking in when the altercation started with you and…and your brothers.” Rosy stopped for a minute to see how he handled that wording but then got back to it when she saw it hadn’t affected him. “I felt bad for you and rushed over here to make sure you were alright.”

Red moved closer and her stupid body perked up like it fucking remembered him. “So we are just going to act like I didn’t meet you in a club. You told me your nick name was Rosy and you had on a black dress with some kind of ruffle top that left your shoulders and the tops of your breast exposed.”

She cleared her throat thinking of that night and how she’d thought the large, red haired man wouldn’t be interested in her but he’d surprised her by coming over to introduce himself. He’d started talking, then they started laughing and the next thing she knew they were in her room at the hotel.

  “Was that you?”

“It’s possible you’ve had me confused with someone else.” Rosy looked away from him as he got closer to her.

“Is that so?” He seemed to purr with amusement and it matched the sly smile that made one side of his mouth hitch up.

She cleared her throat, but didn’t have it in her to tell a falsehood. That wasn’t the life Rosy was living now. She was above board in all things. “I sometimes go to surrounding towns to let my hair down and have a little fun. Women have needs too, Red.”

He sat back. “I’m not disputing that. You came to town, we had fun and I’d hoped to call you again but someone left before the crack of dawn without a word. All I had was a first name and there wasn’t any way to get a hold of you.”

She looked at him quickly before standing to walk over to his window.

“Imagine my surprise when I walked into a baby shower for one of my new friends and found the sexy siren I’d been looking for, running around fixing up the place.” He watched her from the couch. It wasn’t uncomfortable except for what she thought he was thinking of her, but she could handle people and their thoughts.

“I’m sure it threw you for a loop.” She decided she’d show him a little of herself and not hide like she normally did.

“It wasn’t seeing you that threw me. It wasn’t even that you acted like you didn’t know me in front of everyone. The thing that had me shaking my head is that even when we were alone, for the few seconds you allowed us to be, you kept the act up.” He stood up and walked over to where she was standing by the window secretly wishing she hadn’t come over to try and make him feel better. Red placed his fingers under her chin and tilted it up until she looked at him. His eyes were a clear amber that made her think of whiskey on the rocks. Mmmm. “Did you just moan?”

“No.” She turned away from him. It was impossible not to think about how it felt to rest in his arms and the way his thick, heavy cock felt in her hand…her mouth…sliding in and out of her puss—Stop it!

“No what? You’re saying you didn’t just make a sweet noise in the back of your throat that made me think back to our one and only night together? Or—” He drew in a deep breath, let it out and released her chin before backing away from her. “You know what? You came over here to make sure I was okay and gave me one of the greatest hugs that I needed more than I realized…here I am giving you a hard time.”

Rosy looked over to see what he was doing and he was just studying her. It made her want to adjust her clothing or check to see if she had something out of place. “What?”

  He shook his head. “Nothing.”

“When are you going to go back to the Haught Spot? After you give a little time for them to cool down?” She decided to change the subject in hopes of making him stop scrutinizing her.

Red moved away from her and stood near the door. “There isn’t anything to cool down about. They don’t want to think about their father with another woman. I’m sullying the memory they have of the man they thought loved their mother so much he died soon after she did because he couldn’t make it without
her.” Red shook his head. “I don’t doubt that he was in a lot of pain which is probably what lead him to grief counseling and then to seek solace in a pleasurable event.”

Rosy watched him try to work this situation out and felt for him.

“I was never supposed to be here.”

  “You mean born?”

“Well, I didn’t have any option in that, but I had no business taking the job here. I definitely took it too far when I walked into The Haught Spot. Even if it was just to see the men in person. I shouldn’t have done it. I’d already read every article about them and their establishment, it should have been enough. I’m practically a stalker.” Red huffed out a breath. “Thanks for coming over, Rosy. As you can see I’m fine and in no danger so you can go back to acting like we’ve never met.” Red walked out of the room and she assumed to the door.

Rosy stood alone in the now empty room not knowing what she could say that would…she didn’t know…make him better? Maybe she was foolish for thinking anything she did would make him feel better right now. It’s possible she’d have done the same thing to someone trying to finesse her out of her funk when she was younger. No one had ever tried so she couldn’t be sure, but one thing was clear it wasn’t working in this situation. She could hear the door open and thought he was probably waiting for her, so she walked out to the door.

“It’s hard for me to witness a scene like you had with your brothers—”

  “Half.”

“What?” she asked trying to figure out what he was talking about.

“Half brothers.” Red’s face was stoic and in the expression she saw every time she’d been moved from one house to the other. People would ask if she was alright and she’d say it was no big deal, but rejection was a very big deal. It didn’t matter how her relatives had sliced it that’s what being kicked out of one house for another felt like.

She reached up and pulled Red down for a kiss. It wasn’t sweet or particularly sexy but the expression on his face made her heart hurt and she just wanted it gone. She’d recognized that look for what it was…pain and she didn’t want to leave him to deal with it alone. Red wasn’t really kissing her back. He was just letting her molest his mouth so she backed off a little and offered more soothing kisses. Rosy kissed his seamed lips softly and added a few licks in between.

Red pulled back. “I don’t need your pity, Rosy. I’ve had enough of that to last a lifetime.”

“Who says that’s what this is?” She placed her hand on his cock and rubbed him through his pants. “It’s late…practically booty call time. Let’s say that’s what it is.”

“So we go from snubbing to booty-call sex? That how this works?” Red allowed her to fondle and kiss him while he seemed to contemplate what they were doing.

“Yes.” She didn’t want to explain it she just wanted him to let her in. Being alone in this had been the worst and she knew she was putting what she’d felt in the past on him but she just couldn’t help that.

He stilled her hand on his cock and pulled away from her seeking mouth. “I’m not in any mood to play and I can’t think with you muddying up the water. I feel like this is a bad idea but the thought of sinking into your tight pussy and letting you ride me so other less pleasant emotions are held at bay is tempting.”

Rosy didn’t know what to think about this one. Since she was a teen she’d used sex for so many things…a pacifier for comfort, a lure to get attention, wannabe love however temporary, payment for emotional needs and as a way to escape. She wasn’t sure what type she was trying to give Red but he was rejecting her. Pretty words and compliments be damned…he was turning her away…that was clear. She backed away from him wildly. Walking backwards until she was far enough away to turn around and tried to exit.

“Whoa…whoa…whoa.” He caught her by the arm and pulled her back in. “I’ve offended you somehow and I’m sorry. Look I don’t know what’s going on in my life. I feel like I’ve been in a heavyweight title fight and my emotional dial is swinging wildly to different points on the map. It’s just too hard to figure anything out and I don’t think I’d even be a good lay at this point.”

Rosy didn’t want to leave yet. She felt a connection with him that day so long ago when they’d shared a few laughs and a few more orgasms a few towns over. Rosy had been watching him since he reentered her life, but watching him during the confrontation with his brothers made her want to make sure he was okay. “How about we just lay down for a while. I’m a professional cuddler and I think that’s just what you need.”

The man looked on the fence, but she stood there and tried to offer her best platonic smile.

“A professional cuddler? Well who am I to argue with a professional. Where do you want to go?”

“Wherever you feel comfortable.” She saw the smirk and the shake of his head but he wasn’t telling her to leave. Who was receiving the pity now? For whatever reason that was very important but she didn’t really want to think too hard about that.

“Let’s go to the couch.” He moved them both into the house and closed the door before walking back to the living room past the large statue. Red laid on the large, black leather couch and then looked at Rosy. “I’m prepared to be cuddled.”

“I’ll give you an introductory hour.” She crawled to the side of the couch where she could be against the back of it leaving Red on the edge.

  “Sounds good to me.”

Placing her arm under his head with a bit of help from him she pulled him close so his head rested on her chest as she stroked his hair. There was no sound in the room except their breathing. He was holding himself tight as she ran her fingers through his hair. She wasn’t joking with him she actually was certified but she’d never wanted her client sexually and she’d never wanted to comfort someone as much as she wanted to comfort Red. She was quite unsure of how this was going to go.

  “This is actually really nice.”

She hummed in agreement moving from raking her fingers through his hair to rubbing his neck. His soft thick hair slid through her fingers like silk and she enjoyed the sensation of moving from that to his prickly cheek and jaw. His nose and mouth were right under her chin and she could feel his breath against her throat. Scotch scented, warm breath caressed her throat and sent zings of arousal throughout her body. Red’s body seemed to be relaxing as she was getting heated up.

Red continued to lay on Rosy. Stilling herself as her mind went over the words that had made her find him tonight. When the hour was up she shifted her bodyso she could see his face. “Cuddle time is up.”

“Well I will admit that was very relaxing.” He stared into her eyes and she could tell he was following her lead so he’d not have the near breakdown he’d nearly seen at the door. “What’s next?”

“Nothing has to be next but I do want to say something to you before I go.” Rosy thought about what she’d wanted to say for the whole time she stroked his hair and held him in her arms. She moved over him and waited for him to look up at her. Rosy had wanted him to see her sincerity and know in his heart that she was telling the truth as she saw it.

Red looked up at her and she knew why he was a good doctor. He gave the appearance of really listening like he was going to give his all to comprehend what you were saying. The man was so intent she almost forgot what she was going to say.

“You’re a doctor that came into another town to help out when a small town hospital lost a few staff. You made countless trips to make sure Gemmi was okay and took endless phone calls from Camden to keep him from going crazy with worry. I’ve watched you bond with your new friends and be there for whoever needs help.” She took a pause and looked away because she was becoming emotional and she didn’t know why. “I just wanted to say—”

He put his finger on her chin and lifted softly until she looked at him. Those whiskey eyes were clear and deep she wished she could fall into them instead of finishing this sentence. It sounded a lot less cheesy in her mind than it did as she figur
ed out how to put this. Red didn’t rush her. He just waited until she was ready but she had to get ready and watch him watch her at the same time.

“You’re not a mistake. Whatever the circumstance that surrounded your birth…I’m glad you’re here. The world is glad you’re here.” She was glad she’d gotten that out but now she wasn’t sure she should have said it because Red appeared to be frozen. Like he was trying to put the words together in a way that he’d understand them.

He opened up his mouth like he was going to say something but then closed it and placed his hand on the back of her head. Red brought her down slowly like he was asking permission. The practically involuntary slide of her tongue across her lips as she waited to taste him again drew his notice and the deep throaty growl made her breath catch.

If the kiss before could be compared to a wild, hot summer night this one would be an early Spring morning. It was fresh, light and new. He’d never offered her a kiss like this. Not when they’d first met and fucked like bunnies and not when they kissed earlier by the door. Red knew how to kiss and it was difficult to keep her hips from moving against the thick cock growing beneath her. It had been a long time since she’d had an orgasm with anything besides the toys in her bedside table. In fact she’d have to change the title of her last one night stand by the way this whole situation seemed to be going.

Red moved both hands up to cup her ass and bring her fully and firmly against him. It effectively stopped her from doing a lap dance against his covered cock but she could feel him throbbing against her clit. She pushed against him a little harder she just needed a little friction to get the small simmer of arousal to ignite into an inferno. Her toys were magic but it was amazing what having a big male body beneath made her hotter and hungrier so much faster.

  “Please, Red.”

He didn’t answer her, but he stopped and looked up at her. The wicked smile he flashed at her reminded her of the hot night they shared. The one where she was much more vocal about what she wanted.
