The Devil's Belt The Final Confrontation Page 7

by Garry E. Lewis

Back at Pierre’s boat, Richard, Pierre, Tinker and Yank

have started out towards the compound, working their way slowly through the swamp.

As they make their way, the sounds of gators

splashing and rolling in the murky swamp water can be heard at a distance. Pierre and Richard clear a path with their machetes, being careful where they step along the way. It isn’t long before they find themselves at the outer edge of the compound; ducking down they scan the compound for signs of activities.

Tinker says, “Me and Yank will stand guard while you two work your way closer, maybe you can locate where their hiding Megan.” Pierre and Richard close in on the compound, as Tinker and Yank stand ready with their crossbows.

Pierre and Richard make their way to one of the out

buildings, peeking around the corner of the building they scan the compound. At the center of the compound they spot the pole and someone or something setting at its base. Richard says, “We need to move a little closer to be able to make out who or what’s setting against that pole.”

Pierre signals Tinker and Yank to move up closer, as they do, Richard slowly makes his way closer, hiding behind a smaller shed. Turning he signals for Pierre to move up. Richard peers around the shed, focusing he realizes that its Megan tied to the pole. Richard turns and tells Pierre, that it’s Megan.

Pierre says, “Well what are we waiting for? Let’s go rescue my granddaughter,” Pierre says.

Richard says, “Something doesn’t feel right.”

Pierre says, “But if we hurry we can grab her and take

cover behind these out buildings, then stand and fight if need be.” Richard signals Tinker and Yank to move to their location.

Tinker and Yank make their way towards the shed where Pierre and Richard are hiding.

Meanwhile in the trees above, the Master werewolf’s

members watch and wait to make their move.

Richard turns to Pierre and says, “Let’s move in and cut Megan free Pierre, but we’re going to have to move fast, as they are probably watching Megan right now.”

Tinker and Yank take positions with their crossbows,

kneeling with bows aimed. Pierre and Richard run towards

Megan, as they get within feet of Megan the ground opens up and Pierre and Richard fall into the pit.

The trap having been sprung, the pack members jump down from their hiding places in the trees and run towards the pit. Tinker and Yank are able to drop two of the members

kicking and convulsing they drop over dead on the ground. Tinker and Yank, reloading their crossbows, as the other brotherhood members turn and run towards them.

Out numbered and unable to reload soon enough, Tinker and Yank take off running back towards the outer perimeter of the compound.

The members seeing them run off, turn and head back

to the pit where Pierre and Richard are trapped. One of the

members bends down cutting Megan loose, he throws her over his shoulder as Megan kicks and screams, “Put me down you weird man, my daddy will kick your butt!”

Richard calls out, “Don’t you hurt her you son of a bitch!” Richard tries to climb out of the pit but the sides are to steep and slippery.

Pierre lies at Richard’s feet, Richard can see the bone

protruding out of Pierre’s left leg. Richard kneels down, "That’s a bad break Pierre. I’ve got to find a way to get you out of here, and get you to a doctor.”

“No,” Pierre yells, “you have to rescue my granddaughter first! Then you can get me some help I’ll be fine,” Pierre says.

Richard surveys the pit trying to estimate how deep they are. Pierre says, “Maybe if you can help me to my feet, you can climb on my shoulders and jump high enough to grab the edge of the pit and pull yourself out.”

Richard says, “It would be too painful for you Pierre, we’ll just have to wait till they come for us.”

Meanwhile Tinker and Yank run for Pierre’s boat, as the brotherhood of the wolf members run after them trying to catch up to them. Tinker and Yank know their only hope of helping Pierre, Richard, and Megan is to escape and make new plans for a rescue.

The dean, using his walky-talky, calls to his pack and

instructs them to return to the compound. Tinker and Yank

continue making their way back to Pierre’s boat where Cheri and Marie await. Looking back they see no sign of the brotherhood members any longer. Tinker says, “They must have turned back.”

Soon Tinker and Yank arrive back at the boat. Cheri calls out, “Where’s Richard and Papa?”

Yank says, “They didn’t make it back, the brotherhood had a trap set for them, they used Megan as live bait. We’ll have to regroup and plan our next move.” Cheri, looking up into the night sky, sees the moon is almost full.

Cheri says, “Richard’s running out of time, we’re going to have to come up with a new plan quickly.”

Marie asks, “Are Richard, Pierre, and Megan ok?”

Tinker says, “Megan was ok, Pierre and Richard fell into a really deep pit.”

“So we don’t really know what condition their in,” Yank says.

Cheri says, “That’s even more of a reason to come up with some kind of a plan and soon.”

Meanwhile back at the compound, Lucifer converses with his Master werewolf the dean. Lucifer asks, “Have you secured the child once more?”

“Yes,” the dean says, “she’s secured in the small shed at the center of the compound.”

“Good,” Lucifer says, “now go get the old man Pierre out of the pit and confine him in one of the other sheds. Then make sure you post guards at the door, and in the trees surrounding the area as they’ll be back you can count on that!”

The dean says, “Yes Dark Lord, I’ll have my men get right on that.”

Lucifer says, “Leave the professor in the pit; he’s not going anywhere. The moon will be full soon,” as an evil grin forms a crossed his face.

Morning arrives as back at Pierre’s boat, Tinker, and Yank equip themselves with 9mm pistols, and clips of silver rounds. Having prepared to return to the compound, to rescue Megan, Pierre, and Richard.

Cheri says, “The moon will turn full tonight; so be careful you guys.”

Yank grabs some rope, “We’ll need this to rescue Richard from the pit.”

Tinker says, “I think we have everything we’ll need for

tonight; we’ll move in and pitch camp. Then when the time is

right move in for the rescue.”

Yank asks, “Are you sure you ladies will be ok?”

Cheri says, “We have the crossbows you left us, and a 9mm pistol with silver rounds.”

  “We’ll be ok.” Marie says.

Cheri says, “If I wasn’t pregnant I’d be going with you

  two.”

  Marie says, “Same here!”

Tinker turns looking somewhat confused and asks, “Marie are you pregnant too?”

“No you big dummy!” Marie says, “I mean if Cheri wasn’t pregnant, we’d both be going with you; but sense she is, she’s in no condition for this type of trip, I’m staying back here to help her.”

“Oh, that’s a relief,” Tinker says, “Pierre’s a little old to be a daddy this late in life.”

Marie says, “I beg your pardon! Just how old do you think me and Pierre are for God’s sake,”

Tinker says, “Oh I don’t rightly know, give or take a year or two, probably close to ninety,” he says winking at Cheri.

Marie says, “Mr. you had better get your ass packing, and bring back our men and my granddaughter! While you can still leave here without limping,” Marie says winking at Cheri.

“Yes mam!” Tinker says, as he and Yank head off to rescue Megan, Richard, and Pierre.

Slowly Tinker and Yank make their way back to the compound; slowly they make their way to the outer perimeter of the compound.

Meanwhile the brotherhood members have remove
d Pierre from the pit by having Richard tie a rope under Pierre’s arm pits, and slowly pulling him out. Locking Pierre up in one of the outer sheds.

Richard now alone in the pit unable to escape awaits his

fate. The moon will soon rise in the night sky turning full as

midnight draws closer. Richard is aware that once it does, he will no longer be himself; but instead one of the brotherhood members, he will be a slave to Lucifer and his Master werewolf as well.

Tinker and yank move in closer with the rope they brought along with them to rescue Richard. As they move closer, several of the brotherhood members spot them perched above in tree tops.

Jumping down they run towards Tinker and Yank who

kneel near by behind one of the outbuildings. As the brotherhood move in, Tinker and Yank pull out their 9mm pistols and open fire.

Dropping the two members as they close in on their

position. Tinker stands guard as Yank makes his way over to the smaller shed, shooting the lock off the door; he opens it to find Megan tied up setting on the floor of the shed.

Yank cuts her free and directs her to where Tinker is standing by, Megan runs across the compound to Tinker. Yank

turns as another brotherhood member comes up from behind. Yank opens fire, the brotherhood member falls to the ground kicking and howling then slowly dies.

Across the compound two more members jump down out of the trees and rush towards Tinker and Megan. Tinker fires several rounds at both of the members dropping them in their tracks. Megan watches as they kick and howl drool coming from their mouths as they finally die.

Megan, with a disgusting look on her little face, says,

“Yuck Uncle Tinker, why do they do that when they die?”

Tinker laughs and says, “That’s what silver does to them he says,” looking down at Megan smiling.

Megan says, “Yucky that makes me sick.”

Tinker says, “I’m sorry princess, close your eyes next

  time.”

  Megan says, “Ok Uncle Tinker.”

Meanwhile Yank makes his way over to a larger shed,

peering in one of the windows he spots Pierre tied up lying on the floor, his leg resting in a pool of blood.

Yank shoots the lock off of the shed door, and sneaks inside to untie Pierre. Looking down he notices Pierre’s leg has been broken, the bone protruding from his flesh.

Yank says, “Did this happen when you and Richard fell

  into the pit?”

“Yes,” Pierre says, “it’s numb; I have no feeling in that leg now.”

Yank says, “We need to get you to a hospital as soon as

possible, or you’ll loose that leg to gangrene. But first,” Yank

says, “we need to rescue Richard.”

Pierre says, “They left him in the pit.”

Yank says, “Well it’s clear to see that you can’t be moved due to your injured leg. So regretfully Pierre, we’re going to have to come back for you later.”

Pierre says, “It’s more important you rescue the others, get them to safe ground. I’ll be ok,” Pierre says, “I’m an old man, what would the brotherhood want with me?”

Yank says, “We will come back for you Pierre, you have my word.”

Pierre says, “Just go! Before you get caught!” As Yank

turns around a brotherhood member strikes him over the head

  knocking him unconscious.

Tinker worried about Yank, and unable to leave Megan,

makes the hard decision to leave Yank behind and get Megan to safety. Picking Megan up he slowly makes his way out of the compound, as he heads back in the direction of Pierre’s boat where Cheri and Marie are waiting.

Yank awakes tied up next to Pierre. “What happened?” Yank asks.

Pierre says, “You took too damn much time, that’s what

happened, they over powered you. And now,” Pierre says, “we’re out of time look,” he says motioning towards the window.

Yank looks out and sees the full moon rising above the tree tops. “What time is it?” Yank asks.

Pierre says, “It’s probably after midnight, we’re doomed.”

Meanwhile Tinker makes his way back to the boat,

climbing on board he sees no sign of the girls. As he goes below he tells Megan to stay up top.

Climbing down inside the galley he

is struck over the head. Megan hearing the commotion down below, turns and climbs down off the boat and wades to the nearby bank and hides behind some tall weeds.

Soon several brotherhood members emerge carrying

Tinker, lowering him over the side of the boat they carry him off into the timber.

Megan frightened by what she sees wades back

out to the boat and climbs back up into the boat and hides out

  down below.

Back at the compound the brotherhood throw Tinker into the large outbuilding where Marie, Cheri, along with Yank and Pierre are being held captive.

Inside the main building Lucifer calls out to the pact

members and his Master werewolf saying, “It’s time! Everyone

gather at the center of the compound, the full moon ritual is about to begin.” Lucifer says.

All the members call out in unison, “Yes Dark Lord, we

hear and obey.” As one by one they file out of the main building and make their way to the center of the compound.

The full moon, now high over head, throws off and eerie glow, as one by one the members begin to transform, the sounds of howls can be heard for miles throughout the Bayou.

Soon standing center court is Lucifer arrayed in a black

hooded silk robe with red trim, his horns protruding from

underneath the hood. All you can see is two fiery red orbs, glaring out across the center court at his army of werewolves.

Soon they all let out loud howls in perfect unison, as the

lone sorrowful sound of their howls echoes throughout the swamp.

As Lucifer makes his way over to the pit looking down he tosses down a rope into the pit, soon another werewolf climbs out to freedom, standing there before Lucifer and the other pack members is Richard transformed into the very thing he despised. Raising his head to the moon above he joins in with the others as the howling continues.

Slowly the howls dwindle to an eerie silence, as Lucifer

crosses the court yard and unlocks the large shed. Walking inside Lucifer kneels down cutting the prey for the hunt loose, one by one. Tinker, Yank, Cheri and Marie soon emerge from the large out building. Tinker and Yank helping support Pierre on his bad leg.

Lucifer looks at his Master werewolf and pointing his

finger at Pierre says, “This will not do, throw him back in the

shed.” The Master werewolf pulls Pierre out of Tinker’s and

Yank’s arms and throws Pierre back into the large shed slamming the door shut.

Cheri screams, “Stay inside Papa, you’ll be safe there!”

Lucifer looks out from under his hooded robe, his eyes

glowing in the dark as he points his left index finger towards the timber. Turning to Cheri, Marie, and the others he says, “Run, run for your very lives,” as he breaks out in diabolical laughter.

  CHAPTER EIGHT

Tinker and Yank look over to Cheri and Marie and say,

“Come on girls let’s go!” The four of them take off running

through the dark, low lying branches and shrubbery tearing at their arms and legs unable to see what lies ahead of them. Yank takes Marie’s hand pulling her along behind him, as Tinker takes Cheri’s hand and pulls her along as well.

Lucifer stands center court surrounded by his army of

werewolves, he calls out to them waving his arms up and down

saying, “Wait, wait, my pets, wait my children, we must give them a fair start, then you can have your fun.”

Running through the woods, Tinker yells, “If we can
just make it to Pierre’s boat, we might stand a chance!”

Back at the compound Lucifer, raises his arms towards the moon and yells, “Now my pets, now! Hunt, my children, hunt! Feed on their flesh my pets.” The Master werewolf leads his pack, as they bolt towards the timber; their senses running wild.

Following the scent of their prey into the night, they run in perfect unison, dodging and darting around the trees and shrubbery along the path; calling out to each other as they increase their speed through the timber, into the night they run.

Tinker and Marie, Cheri and Yank continue running as fast as they can through the twisted and tangle vines and branches of the swamp, tripping and stumbling as they try to stay a foot, hoping soon to find the waters edge and Pierre’s boat awaiting them.

Suddenly Yank looks up and yells at the others, “Look over there, lanterns! It’s Pierre’s boat, but who could have lit them?”

Then Tinker remembers Megan was with him at the time he was knocked unconscious, that little stinker must have found the matches and lit them herself.

“She may have just saved all our lives,” Yank says, as they continue to run towards the welcome glow of the lanterns ahead of them.

Behind them, closing in fast is the Master werewolf and his pack rapidly increasing their speed, they to now move towards the light of the lanterns off in the distance.

Tinker, Yank, and the girls finally make it to where

Pierre’s boat resting in the swamp just off bank. Slowly they wade out to the boat, reaching the ladder they climb up into the boat, one by one.

Megan seeing them runs to them excited to see they’re ok. “Mommy, mommy,” Megan yells as she runs to Cheri’s

  open arms.

Cheri says, “Oh honey I was so worried about you,” giving Megan a big hug. Cheri says, “You saved our lives sweetie, we were lost in the dark, you lighting those lanterns led us right to you.”

Off in the distance they hear the approaching werewolves as their howls echo through the swamp. Quickly Yank says, “Tinker untie us so we can get the hell out of here!”

Tinker unties the lines setting the boat free.

As Yank starts the motors, they sputter, and whine, then sputter again then die. Tinker calls out to Yank, “What’s wrong?”
