“There was no accident was there Rosa?”

  “There was,” she smiled slyly.

“But you weren’t involved were you?” he asked.

“No,” she answered, then opened her mouth and licked the tip of his cock.

“We’re done here,” he said sternly.

“If you leave, this recording goes straight to Colette.”

“And what do you think is going to happen if I stay here?”

“You are going to make love to me like we used to, before Huerto,” Rosa said.

“I think I’ll take my chances. If you think for a minute that Colette is going to just take a disk from you and watch it...you’re crazy.” Gabe squeezed Rosa’s wrist so hard that she let go of him. He took another step back and pulled up his boxer briefs and jeans, securing them.

Rosa watched him as he adjusted himself, then bent down to grab his keys from the floor where he’d dropped them. She didn’t say anything until he opened the door and stepped through.

“I won’t need to give it to her,” she paused. “Bunnie will take care of that for me.”

Gabe turned around in the doorway and took Rosa in as she stood there naked.

“I could tell her tonight, what happened here and you may not even send that little video. I could say nothing to her and you still wouldn’t send that video. Or, I could not say anything to her and you send the video to her step-mother.” Gabe crossed his arms over his chest. “Yet, you’re telling me that the only way for this video to not get to Colette is to fuck you? What’s to say that you won’t record that and send her both? Huh?”

  Chapter Twenty-Nine

“Oh, you always were a smart one Gabe. So which will you choose?” She held up the remote and smiled seductively.

He uncrossed his arms and took a step back in the apartment. “Not you,” he said, with finality and pulled the door closed behind him.

Gabe walked to his car just in front of Rosa’s apartment and got in, slamming the door. He looked down at his watch as he started the engine. He had an hour before Colette got off work. He put his car in reverse, backing out of the space and then sped off to his townhouse.

Walking through his front door, he saw Brock playing a video game.

“Hey man, what’s going on?” Brock greeted.

“Nothing good,” Gabe answered, closing the door.

Brock paused his game and looked over at Gabe, “You look like you have something serious on your mind man, what’s going on?”

Gabe sat down on the loveseat, resting his elbows on his knees. He hung his head.

“Rosa called me last night...” When Brock went to interrupt, Gabe shook his head to stop him and continued, “she said that she and Little G were in a car accident and that she needed a ride home. So, I picked them up, and Little G was just super clingy. She said that he was crying for me the whole time, and she was afraid to stay alone. So, I brought them here.”

Brock sighed heavily, “Man, you know better than to fall for her shit.”

“It gets worse.” Gabe pulled his phone out of his pocket, pulled up the picture that Colette had sent him, and handed his phone to Brock.

“Are you fucking kidding me man?” Brock handed the phone back. “I thought last night was supposed to be your reunion with Letty man?”

“It was.” He took a deep breath and let it out, tossing his phone on the coffee table in front of him. “She was upstairs. When I fell asleep with G on my chest, Rosa must have went upstairs and saw her or something man. I don’t know.”

“But you explained to her didn’t you?” Brock asked, sliding down into the sofa.

“I went over to the pub to explain and she kicked me out. So I made her promise to talk to me tonight.”

“Well that’s good then. You can tell her it was all staged and things will...”

“No!” Gabe yelled, leaning back into the loveseat, bringing the heels of his hands to rub his eyes. “Rosa called while I was leaving the pub. She said G was fussy, so I said I’d go right over and take care of him.”

“So, what are you not saying Gabe?” Brock asked cautiously.

“I got there, and G wasn’t awake. Hell, I don’t even know if he was there.”

Brock sat there for a minute not saying anything, waiting for Gabe to continue.

“I walked in and didn’t see or hear anyone for a second. Then, Rosa walks in wearing a robe and, I’m all pissed off from Colette not talking to me and basically kicking me out of McGruder’s. The next thing I know, Rosa slips off her robe.”

“Please tell me you did not fuck her.”

“No, I didn’t fuck her. She sucked me off,” Gabe said, running his hands through his hair, then dropping his hands in his lap.

“What!” Brock exclaimed, sitting up, “I thought you were through with her man. I thought that shit was old news.”

“It is,” Gabe sighed. “She started kissing me and I closed my eyes and all I could see was Colette going to Carter’s apartment and getting it ready for him.”

  “So what?”

“She fucked him before we started seeing each other man. He’s coming home injured apparently.”

“So big fucking deal, she fucked him before dating you. You fucked Rosa before too. Big deal,” Brock shrugged.

“It’s a big deal now though. I just kept seeing Colette and Carter with everything Rosa was doing to me. She started undoing my pants, I saw Colette undoing Carter’s. Rosa sucking my dick, I saw Colette sucking Carter’s. When I came in her mouth...I yelled for Colette. That’s when everything changed.”

  “How so?”

“Rosa has certain things she likes to do to make a man cum harder. Something Colette would never do. When Rosa did that...I may have yelled out for Colette, but when I opened my eyes, I had my hands in Rosa’s hair. I wasn’t gentle. Her lips were swollen...”

“Spare me the details,” Brock put a hand up.

  “She taped it.”

“She what?” Brock asked, surprised, eyes wide.

“She taped it,” Gabe answered. “She showed me the cameras. Even used the remote control to turn different cameras on and off. Said that she was going to put it on disk and give it to Colette. When I called her on it, she said she’d have Colette’s step-mother give it to her. She was going to dub it so that it was her name that I’d called out and not Colette’s. Either way...I’m so screwed.”

“What if she’s bluffing. She does that well.”

“Her answer was classic,” Gabe answered.

  “What was it?”

“After giving her a few different scenarios that might happen, she turned it around on me. Asked me which one I’d choose.” Gabe shook his head, “So, I said not you and walked out.

“So what are you going to do?”

“Take a shower and figure it out,” Gabe stated. “All I can smell right now is Rosa and her fucking perfume.”

Brock didn’t say anything as Gabe got up, grabbed his phone and went upstairs.

Once in his room, he looked at the time on his phone and saw that he only had a forty-five minutes until Colette got off work. What was he going to do? Tell her and lose her? Or not tell her and have Rosa actually call his bluff and lose her anyway? This was so fucked up. All because he was mad at Rosa for her shenanigans and then at Colette for pushing him away. In retrospect now though, it was his fault for letting Rosa continue to get her way and push into his life, interfering with his relationship with Colette. It was his fault for acting out and even going to Rosa’s apartment in the first place. And once he was there, he walked right into the spider’s web. What was he thinking walking right up to her to tell her it was over and then not saying anything? His plan was to tell her that he wouldn’t take her phone calls or answer her text messages. Yet, he said nothing and Rosa took advantage.

Stripping off his clothes, he rolled them up in a ball and tossed them in the laundry basket, walked to the shower, turning it on as hot as it would go and got in, lettin
g it scald his skin. He stood there for several minutes with the water scalding his skin until his brain engaged, and he turned the water down a little and scrubbed his skin with the soapy loofa. He washed his hair and his skin one more time, just to be sure he was free of Rosa.

Turning the water off, he jumped out of the shower, toweled off, put on a clean pair of jeans and a t-shirt, then slid into a pair of flip flops. He stuffed his wallet in his back pocket and grabbed his keys, as he ran down stairs to his car and drove over to the pub where Colette was getting ready to leave.

  _____

Colette was done with work finally. Inventory on Sundays was always easy. Hamish had introduced her to a new bartender. His name was Griffin O’Hare. A niece of some cousin or something. He was a stout young man, but muscular and tall. Tattoos of random places and things that represented Ireland ran up both of his arms. He had a head of black, wavy hair on his head. He had a solid chin and the bluest eyes that looked like the ocean in the resort pictures. His voice was deep and he sounded like he’d just stepped onto the mainland. Sarah was smitten immediately, calling dibs.

Going through the motions, she’d set Griffin up with everything that was expected of them here, even though he’d worked a pub back in Sligo, Ireland, where he was from. She’d shown him where everything was kept, and he soaked it in. He was funny, charismatic and the girls that came in loved him immediately.

Looking at the time, Griffin told her that he’d take it from here. She hugged Sarah and Caroline and waived to Meavy and Hamish on her way to go get her purse from her locker. With keys in hand, she walked out the back door to see Gabe waiting by her car.

She gave a tight smile as she walked up to him and set her purse on the hood of her car.

“So...let’s hear it,” she put her hands on her hips waiting for Gabe to start talking. When he just took a deep breath and slid his hands in his hair saying nothing, Colette got frustrated.

“You were the one that wanted to talk so bad when I was working and now you can’t say anything.” She nodded her head, “Okay, I think we’re done here then.” She picked up her purse and opened her door tossing it inside. Before she could get in, Gabe stopped her.

“Colette,” he started in a husky voice. He pushed her up against her car, his hands trapping her against the door, his body up against hers. Their eyes searching the others.

“Gabe?” she asked, knowing something was different. He was off, almost panicked.

“Pick me Colette. Love me,” Gabe pleaded. “I know I’m not perfect, but, please, pick me. I have fallen in love with you. I can’t live without you.” He leaned in kissing her neck.

“We can get through anything together. I promise. Just don’t let me go,” he pleaded.

“Gabe...I...I can’t,” Colette tried to reason with him, “Everything that happened...I just...”

“Then, let me take the time to change your mind.”

It was the last thing he said before his mouth took hers in a heated kiss. He gave her no quarter, he was out to change her mind with an all out assault on her senses. His tongue explored her mouth, leaving nothing untouched. His hands went down to her hands and entwined his fingers in hers as he continued to kiss her.

He pushed up against her, pushing his erection into her belly. Colette was just as turned on. She was getting wetter by the moment. Feeling him push up against her, she squeezed his hands and had to pull back an inch just to get air in her lungs. When she opened up her eyes, she saw Gabe’s eyes searching hers. The green of his iris’ were so bright.

  “What’s happened Gabe?” she asked.

“I left here and went to see Rosa.” His eyes closed and he took in a deep breath.

That was the cold splash of water that Colette needed to hear. This felt all wrong. She knew it. Something had happened between the two of them, she could feel it. And to know that he was upset when he left here, there was no telling what he’d done with Rosa when he got there.

  “What happened?”

“Nothing.” He leaned his forehead against hers, his eyes still closed.

“Tell me that with your eyes open, looking at me.”

It took him a moment, as he exhaled the breath that he realized that he’d been holding, waiting for her answer. He pulled back and looked her in the eyes. He knew that she could see the war within him. But, he wasn’t about to lose her, no matter what Rosa said. He’d figure out a way to tell her...later. He needed to make sure that they were solid first.

“She didn’t take it well, obviously. I told her that I was moving on...without her.” He shrugged his shoulders to try and give Colette the sense that it didn’t matter to him.

“And she took that without a fight?”

Gabe was instantly frustrated now. “What do you expect from her Colette?”

Colette pulled her hands out of his and put her hands on his chest and looked at them, realizing that she wanted...no...needed, space suddenly.

“With Rosa...there isn’t ever any telling. What my mind tells me is that she tried to seduce you again,” she said without any hesitation.

“Of course not. She yelled, she screamed, she tried to blackmail me,” Gabe offered.

Colette’s head shot up to his face when he’d said blackmail. “Why would she blackmail you?”

He realized his mistake. His hands came up against the car, trapping her again. “She’s manipulative. You know that.” He shook his head, “She says she has stuff on me...but when I asked, she...well, she wouldn’t say what it was.”

Colette’s head fell against her car as tears started to well up in her eyes. He was hesitant to get what he had to say out. He wasn’t telling her something. That right there told her that Rosa had something on him, whether he would tell her or not. The ball was in her court. Would she stay with him and trust him? Would she let him go?

“Amante. Trust me.” Gabe kissed her exposed neck. “Don’t let her win. Don’t let her come in between us. I promise...nothing happened.” He took her hands that were on his chest and wrapped them around his neck, then slid his hands behind her neck and tilted her head so that he could kiss her lips lightly.

She let him kiss her. Her arms wrapped around his neck as she made her decision and started kissing him back. She could feel his posture relax when she started to kiss him back. Gabe deepened the kiss and pressed his body up against hers, grinding his hips into her, her body responding in kind. Realizing that his urges were getting away with him, he pulled back just far enough that he could kiss her forehead and look her in the eyes.

“We’re going to be just fine. No more Rosa. I promise,” Gabe said, smiling and shaking his head.

“No more Rosa,” Colette smiled back. But she still felt uneasy.

It was inevitable. Her phone started to ring from inside her purse. Gabe moved to let her get it. He noticed the smile on her face as she looked down at her phone.

“Harrison...talk to me,” she said, by way of greeting.

“He’s going to be home sooner than we thought. Tonight, around midnight.”

“Awesome, I just finished work, so I’ll run over and make sure everything is ready for him,” she smiled, feeling like bouncing up and down. “I’ll talk to you later Harrison. Thanks.”

Colette hit the red button and looked up at Gabe who she just realized was standing several feet away with a blank look on his face, his hands in his pockets.

“If me staying friends with Carter is going to be a problem...” she started.

“No,” Gabe shrugged his shoulders and pursed his lips, “just giving you space to take your call.”

Colette walked up to him, kissed his lips and stepped back. “We’re good?” she asked.

“Yeah,” Gabe answered, giving her another kiss, “we’re good.”

“Okay. It’s Sunday, so I know you have to work tomorrow, and I want to get over to Carter’s and air out his apartment.” She looked down at her phone. “I’ve got time, wanna go to Tapas in City Market?”

He pulled his hands out of his pockets and reached out for her hand. “Let’s walk,” he said with a smile.

Colette reached in and grabbed her purse, tossing her phone in it. She closed the door to her car and walked hand in hand with Gabe to dinner.

  Chapter Thirty

Colette had dinner with Gabe, who seemed to let her go apprehensively when they walked back to their cars. She had assured him that she was friends with Carter. What had happened was before she and Gabe got together. It was over. Still, she couldn’t shake the feeling that Gabe was hiding something with the whole Rosa situation. But, she’d take his word for it until things changed.
