  (the) First Captain of the Thornwalkers: q.v., Chief Captain of the Thornwalkers.

  First Durek: a Dwarf King and founder of Durek’s Folk in the First Era. Discoverer of Kraggen-cor. Also known as Eld Durek. (Q.v., Breakdeath Durek, Durek.)

  (the) First Folk: q.v., (the) Lian.

  (the) First Land: q.v., Lianion.

  First Yule: the first day of Yule (q.v.); December 21.

  Flandrena: an Elf. Lian warrior. One of the four Elves sent on a mission into Gron to spy out Modru’s strength at the Iron Tower and to rescue Laurelin, if possible. Flandrena survived this mission, for he was chosen to carry the information on Modru’s strength back to Arden Vale. Flandrena returned to the Iron Tower with Galen’s Legion and avenged his comrades’ deaths. A member of Brega’s squad.

  Fleetfoot: Gildor’s horse. Slain by the Hèlarms.

  (the) fleet(s) of Arbalin: vessels of Arbalin. Mainly used for commerce, but in the Winter War they gathered to blockade the Rovers of Kistan in Hile Bay.

  flet: a Warrow tree dwelling.

  (the) Foe: q.v., Modru.

  (the) Folk of the Red Hills: Dwarves of the Red Caves.

  (the) Forces of Power: those forces that rule even the gods, e.g., Destiny.

  Foreign Parts: a Warrow term meaning, anywhere beyond the borders of the Boskydells.

  (the) forge of Hèl: Hell’s smithery. A term used to mean a harsh or hellish experience.

  foul-beards: a term used by Modru to mean, Dwarves.

  (the) Foul Folk: any or all of the Folk allied with Modru or Gyphon.

  (the) Four: q.v., (the) Deevewalkers.

  (the) four heroes: q.v., (the) Deevewalkers.

  (the) four kindred: the four strains of northern Warrows. (Q.v., Othen, Paren, Quiren, Siven.)

  (the) Four Who Strode the Deeves: q.v., (the) Deevewalkers.

  (the) Free Folk: any or all of the Folk allied with Adon, the most notable of which are: Dwarf, Elf, Man, Utrun, Warrow, Wizard. Also known as the High Folk.

  Friend Tuck: a Dwarven title bestowed upon Tuck by Brega.

  (the) Frith River: a river in Rell flowing southwesterly from the Grimwall Mountains into the Isleborne River.

  Gaard: a Wizard word perhaps meaning, Move, or Act. Used by Dwarves to both open and close the Dusk-Door.

  Gaffer Tom: a buccan Warrow of the Boskydells. A granther at the time of the Winter War.

  Galen: a Man of Pellar. Eldest son of Aurion. A Lord and Prince who became High King during the Winter War. Deevewalker. Hero. Husband of Laurelin. Sire of Gareth. Also known as Shatter-sword. Died at age 71 at Caer Pendwyr during a storm.

  Galen’s Host: q.v., Galen’s Legion.

  Galen’s Legion: the force of five-thousand warriors led by Galen to assault the Iron Tower on the Darkest Day. Also known as Galen’s Host.

  Galen’s One Hundred: a force of one-hundred Men led by Galen into the Dimmendark to seek signs of the gathering of Modru’s forces of old.

  Galen the Fox: Galen (q.v.). So named for his clever battle strategy.

  Gammer Alderbuc: a buccan Warrow of the Boskydells. A granther Warrow and past Captain of the Thornwalkers at the time of the Winter War.

  Gann: a Man of Riamon. General. A member of Aurion’s War-council. Slain at Challerain Keep.

  (the) Gap: q.v., Gûnarring Gap.

  (the) Gap River: a river in Gron flowing southerly from Claw Moor through Claw Gap and into the Gwasp.

  (the) Gap Road: the north-south road through Gûnar between the Gûnarring Gap and Gûnar Slot.

  Gareth: firstborn of Galen and Laurelin. Gareth became King in 5E46.

  (the) Gargon: (plural: Gargons, Gargoni): a Vûlk aiding Gyphon in the Great War. Trapped in the Lost Prison by Lian Guardians. Freed by Modru’s art. Ruler of Drimmen-deeve for more than a thousand years. Slain by the Deevewalkers. Also known as the Draedan (Sylva), the Dread, the Dread of Drimmen-deeve, the Dread of the Black Hole, the Evil, the Fear to the North (of Darda Galion), the Ghath (Châkur), the Horror, the Mandrak (Twyll), Modru’s Dread, and the Negus (Slûk) of Terror.

  Garn: (Valur: interjection): oathword of Valon, used to express disappointment or frustration.

  Gate Level: the level at the Dawn-Gate to which all other levels in Kraggen-cor are referenced: Deeper chambers have Neaths as their level designations (i.e., First Neath, Second Neath, etc.), whereas higher chambers have Rises as their level designations (i.e., First Rise, Second Rise, etc.); those chambers in Kraggen-cor at the same level as the Dawn-Gate are said to be at Gate Level.

  (the) Gates of Hèl: mythical entrance into Hell.

  (the) Gathering Hall of Caer Pendwyr: a great chamber in Pendwyr Castle.

  (the) Gath River: a river in Gron flowing northerly from the Gwasp to the Boreal Sea.

  (the) Geldin River: a river in Aven flowing westerly from the Rimmen Mountains into the Argon River.

  Gelen: an island Kingdom in the Weston Ocean, west of Jute.

  Gelvin’s Doom: a great jewel said to have magical properties. A token of power.

  Gêol: q.v., Yule.

  Geront Gabben: a buccan Warrow. Mayor of Woody Hollow during the Winter War.

  Ghatan: (Châkur: ringmount): q.v., Loftcrag.

  (the) Ghath: (Châkur: horror): Dwarven name for the Gargon (q.v.).

  Ghola: (singular: Ghol): Pellarion for Ghûls (q.v.).

  Ghûlen: a term meaning, of the Ghûls.

  Ghûlka: (singular: Ghûlk): (Sylva: reavers): Elven name for Ghûls (q.v.).

  Ghûls: (singular: Ghûl): minor Vûlks. Savage, Hèlsteed-borne reavers. Very difficult to slay. All perhaps perished in the Winter War. Also known as the corpse-foe, the corpse-folk, the corpse-people, Ghola (Old Pellarion), Ghûlka (Sylva), Guula (Valur), Khôls, Modru’s Reavers, reavers.

  Giants: the Warrow and Valonian name for Utruni (q.v.).

  Gildor: (Sylva: gold-branch): an Elf. Lian warrior. Elf Lord. Son of Talarin and Rael. Twin brother of Vanidor, brother of Faeon. Hero. One of the Deevewalkers. Also known as Alor Gildor, Deva Gildor, Gildor Goldbranch, Goldbranch, Lord Gildor, Torch-flinger.

  Gilly: a buccan Warrow of the Boskydells. A member of the Eastdell Fourth.

  (the) Glave Hills: a northwest-southeast range of hills marking the boundary between Pellar and the Greatwood in South Riamon.

  Glory Bramblethorn: a damman Warrow. Wife of Hanlo Bramblethorn. Dam of Danner Bramblethorn.

  Goblins: a term used by the Men of Valon to mean Rutcha (q.v., Rûcks.

  Goldbranch: q.v., Gildor.

  (the) golden armor: the armor worn by Patrel in the Winter War. Originally made by the Dwarves of the Red Caves for young Galen, the mail was given to Patrel by Laurelin to wear at her birthday feast. The armor was ultimately placed on display at Tuckerby’s Warren, where it was to be left in possession of the Warrows until recalled by the shade of Aurion. Also known as the golden mail, the gilded mail, and the gilded armor.

  (the) golden mail: q.v., golden armor.

  gold penny: one of three common types of coins used for commerce in Mithgar (copper and silver being the other common types, though, in places, bronze and pewter are used, as well as jade and ivory.)

  Gorbury’s Mill: a grain mill in Woody Hollow.

  (the) Gord River: a river in Gron flowing northerly from the Rigga Mountains to the Gwasp.

  Gothon: a Kingdom in Mithgar, bounded on the west by the Weston Ocean, on the north by the Ryngar Arm of the Weston Ocean, on the east by Trellinath, and on the south by Basq.

  Gralon: (Sylva: grey-stone): q.v., Greytower.

  (the) Grand Alliance: the alliance of Dwarves, Elves, Men, Utruni, Warrows, and Wizards who fought on the side of Adon in the Great War against Gyphon, Modru, Vûlks, Ghûls, Hlôks, Rûcks, Ogrus, Vulgs, and some Dragons.

  grandam: the age-name given to a damman Warrow 85 years old and beyond.

  (the) Grate Room: a small chamber in Kraggen-cor where paused the Deevewalkers.

  Grayling’s fabled bow: a legendary bow lending unexcelled prowess to the user; borne by the Elf Grayling.

  (the) Great Barrier: q.v., (the) Spindlethorn Barrier.

  (the) Great Chamber of the Sixth Rise: one of the chambers in Kraggen-cor through which the Deevewalkers strode.

  (the) Great Deceiver: q.v., Gyphon.

  (the) Great Deep: a bottomless fissure in Kraggen-cor near the Dawn-Gate.

  (the) Great Dêop: (Châkur: Dêop = Deep): Dwarven name for the Great Deep (q.v.).

  (the) Great Escarpment: a great uplift in the land running east from the Grimwall Mountains and curving south along Greatwood. Bellon Falls marks the place where the Argon River plunges down the Escarpment, just as Vanil Falls marks where the River Nith cascades down.

  (the) Greatest Evil: q.v., Gyphon.

  (the) Great Evil: q.v., Gyphon.

  (the) Great Greenhall: q.v., Darda Eyrnian.

  Great Isle: an island in the Argon River some fifty miles south of the Landover Road Ford. Site of an ancient fort (it’s name is no longer remembered, but in truth the fort was called Vrana) whose guardians were corrupted by Gyphon; the fort was subsequently destroyed by the Baeron.

  (the) Great Loom: q.v., (the) Loom.

  (the) Great Maelstrom: a giant whirlpool in the Boreal Sea between Gron and the Seabane Islands where it is said that Krakens dwell.

  (the) great portico of the Dusk-Door: an edifice of marble columns supporting a marble roof against the Loom at the Dusk-Door.

  (the) Great Purging: q.v., (the) Purging.

  (the) Great Spindlethorn Barrier: q.v., (the) Thornwall.

  (the) Great Swamp: q.v., (the) Gwasp.

  (the) Great Thornwall: q.v., (the) Spindlethorn Barrier.

  (the) Great War: the part of the War between Gyphon and Adon that was fought in Mithgar. Also known as the Ban War, the War of the Banning, and the Great War of the Ban.

  (the) Great War of the Ban: q.v., (the) Great War.

  (the) Greatwood: a vast forest in South Riamon stretching from the River Rissanin to the Glave Hills.

  (the) green-and-grey of Arden: the colors of the flag of Arden: green Eld Tree on a field of grey.

  (the) green-and-white of Valon: the colors of the flag of Valon: white horse rampant on a field of green.

  Greenfields: a Boskydell hamlet on the Crossland Road east of Woody Hollow. Also known as the ’Fields.

  (the) Green Stone of Xian: a jade egg. Said to hold the spirit of the Dragon-King.

  Grevan: a Wizard of Mithgar who helped Valki construct the Dusk-Door.

  (the) Grey River: a river in Aven flowing southwesterly from the Grimwall Mountains into the Argon River.

  Greytower: one of the four mountains of the Quadran beneath which Kraggen-cor is delved. Greytower was so named because of the grey stone of its composition. Also known as Gralon (Sylva), and Uchan (Châkur).

  Grg: (Châkur: worms of rot): Dwarven name for the maggot-folk (q.v.).

  (the) Grimmere: a great lake of evil repute in the north of Hoven along the Grimwall Mountains and the Gûnarring.

  Grimspire: one of the four mountains of the Quadran beneath which Kraggen-cor is delved. Grimspire is a mountain of black stone, and along its west face is the Great Loom in which the Dusk-Door is delved, opening into the mountain. Also known as Aevor (Sylva), and Aggarath (Châkur).

  (the) Grimwall: q.v., Grimwall Mountains.

  (the) Grimwall Mountains: a great chain of mountains in Mithgar generally running in a northeast-southwest direction.

  Gron: Modru’s evil Realm. Barren and bleak, it is a great wedge of land between the Gronfang Mountains to the east, the Rigga Mountains to the west, and the Boreal Sea to the north. Also known as the angle of Gron, the Northern Wastes of Gron, the Wastes of Gron.

  (the) Gronfang Mountains: a north-south chain of mountains running from the Boreal Sea to the Grimwall.

  (the) Gronfangs: q.v., Gronfang Mountains.

  Grûwen Col: q.v., Grûwen Pass.

  Grûwen Pass: a mountain pass from Rhone to Gron where the Gronfangs meet the Rigga Mountains.

  Grûwen Vale: a valley in Gron at the outlet of Grûwen Pass.

  (the) ’Guard: q.v., Beyonder Guard.

  Guardian(s): q.v., Lian Guardian(s).

  (the) Gul River: a river in Gron flowing northwesterly from the Rigga Mountains to the Gwasp.

  Gûnar: an abandoned Realm in Mithgar, bounded by the Grimwall and the Gûnarring.

  (the) Gûnarring: a great arc of mountains curving out and away from the Grimwall Mountains only to loop back to rejoin them.

  Gûnarring Gap: a gap through the Gûnarring joining Gûnar to Valon.

  Gûnar Slot: a great wide slot through the Grimwall connecting Gûnar to Rell.

  Guula: (singular: Guul): (Valur: corpse-foe): a Valur word for Ghûls (q.v.).

  (the) Gwasp: a great swamp in Gron. Also known as the Great Swamp.

  gwynthyme: an herbal mint used in poultices to draw forth poisons.

  Gyphon: The High Vûlk whose struggle with Adon for control of the Spheres spilled over into Mithgar as the Great War. Gyphon lost and was banished beyond the Spheres. Gyphon again attempted to gain control during the Winter War. Also known as the Great Deceiver, the Great Evil, The Greatest Evil, the High Vûlk, the Master.

  Haddon: a Man of Rian. Warrior. One of Galen’s One Hundred. The Vulg-wounded messenger who brought word to Challerain Keep that the Black Wall was moving south. Slain by Ghola at the slaughter of Laurelin’s waggon train along the Battle Downs.

  Hagan: a Man of Valon. Warrior Captain. A member of Aurion’s War-council. Slain at Challerain Keep.

  (the) Hall of the Gravenarch: a long, low, narrow chamber in Kraggen-cor with rune-engraved arch supporting the roof. Site of Braggi’s demise and Braggi’s rune. The Deevewalkers strode through the Hall of the Gravenarch. Brega broke the Gravenarch to thwart the Gargon.

  (the) Hammer: q.v., Stormhelm.

  Hanlo Bramblethorn: a buccan Warrow. Husband of Glory Bramblethorn. Danner’s sire. Leader of Hanlo’s Reya during the Winter War.

  Hanlo’s Reya: (Twyll: Reya = Foxes): a Warrow company in Eastwood during the Winter War. Fought in the Battle of Brackenboro.

  (the) Happy Otter Inn: a Boskydell inn in Greenfields.

  Harlan Broxeley: a buccan Warrow of the Boskydells. A farmer whose stead was along the Crossland Road.

  Harlingar: (Valur: Harl’s line of blood): the lineal descendents of Strong Harl. Also the name given to horseborne warriors of Valon.

  Harth: a Realm in Mithgar, south of the Wilderland, west of Rell, east of the Boskydells, north of Trellinath.

  Harven Culp: a buccan Warrow of the Boskydells. Warrior of the Struggles. A member of Brega’s squad. Slain at the Kinstealer’s holt.

  Hâth Ford: the ford across the Hâth River north of Gûnarring Slot.

  (the) Hâth River: a river flowing west from the Grimwall Mountains to the Rivermix north of Luren.

  Havor: an Elf. Lian warrior. Captain of Coron Eiron’s Door-ward during the Winter War.

  Hawthorn Hill: a hill in the Dinglewood alongside the North Trace.

  healer: a physician. A term also used to mean a battlefield helper who binds wounds and dispenses medicines and unguents.

  hearthtale bogeyman: any frightening character of any fictional tale.

  Hèl: Hell.

  Hèlarms: (Sylva: Hell-arms): Elven name for a Kraken (q.v.).

  Hèlspawn: Spawn of Hell.

  Hèlsteeds: (singular: Hèlsteed): horse-like creatures with cloven hooves, long scaled tails, yellow eyes with slitted pupils, and a foetid stench. Slower than horses but with greater endurance. Ridden by a Ghûls. Also known as ‘steeds.

  (the) Heroes of the Iron
Tower: a term generally taken to mean any alliance warrior who fought at the Iron Tower on the Darkest Day. The term also specifically refers to any member of Brega’s squad (q.v.).

  (the) Heroes of the Winter War: a term generally taken to mean any alliance warrior who fought in the Winter War.

  (the) hidden linchpins: linchpins set in strategic passages in Dwarven caverns which, when pulled, cause the collapse of the passage. A Dwarven defence.

  (the) Hidden Refuge: q.v., Arden Valley.

  (the) Hidden Stand: q.v., Arden Valley.

  (the) High King: the Liege Lord of all of Northern Mithgar to whom all other Kings swear fealty. He holds Court at Caer Pendwyr in Pellar, and in Challerain Keep in Rian. Also known as the High Ruler.

  (the) High Kings of Mithgar: q.v., High King.

  (the) High One: q.v., Adon.

  High Plane: one of the three Planes of creation, holding the High Worlds.

  (the) High Ruler: q.v., High King.

  (the) High Vûlk: q.v., Gyphon.

  (the) High World: q.v., Adonar.

  (the) High Worlds: q.v., Hohgarda.

  Hile Bay: a bay in Pellar on the Avagon Sea.

  (the) ’Hill: q.v., Stonehill.

  Hlôks: (singular: Hlôk: evil, Man-sized, Rûck-like beings. Though fewer in number, Hlôks were masters of the Rûcks. Also known as Drôkha (Valur), Hrôks (Châkur), Loka (Sylva), Lôkha (Old Pellarion).

  Hlôken: a term meaning, of the Hlôks.

  Hob Banderel: a buccan Warrow. Thornwalker. Slain by Vulgs at the Rooks’ Roost.

  Hob’s Cairn: the name by which the Rooks' Roost came to be known after the Winter War, for it was atop the Rooks’ Roost that Hob was buried.

  Hogarth: a Man of Rian. Warrior. Gate Captain at Challerain Keep. Slain at Challerain Keep.

  (the) Hôhgarda: (Old Pellarion: High Worlds): all the worlds on the High Plane.

  (the) Hollow: q.v., Woody Hollow.
