As if he knew what she was feeling, Teagan kissed her. “But that’s worry later my love, for now we are together and we should enjoy this time we’ll hold onto when we’re parted.”

Josie nodded, her eyes drifting down to his mouth, anxious to feel it on her own again. He seemed to guess at her wants because he swooped down to capture her mouth once more. The kiss grew and grew, their tongues tangling and rubbing together until he pulled back, and Josie realised she’d forgotten to breathe.

“Oh Josie,” he said softly. “You do things to me that no one else has ever done. You’ve filled a piece of my heart that has never known a woman’s touch. I love you, Josie.” He stared down at her waiting for her reply.

“You know, Teagan, I’m pretty much a sure thing right now. You don’t have to put on the charm.” She smiled though it trembled on her lips.

“I meant every word,” he said, rising on his elbow and crossing his finger over him heart. “May God strike me dead if I told a lie.”

Outside, the sky had grown dark with the coming storm. Lightning flashed and thunder rumbled. Inside, Josie laughed, her eyes twinkling as Teagan glanced around. “Hmm, I wonder what that was supposed to mean.”

He laughed with her, his hands still moving over her body. Teagan knelt on the floor in front of her, pulling her legs gently around so that she was sitting up, her legs propped up on the old coffee table.

Teagan kissed her, slowly, lingeringly. His mouth devoured, his lips twisted and rubbed. His tongue was like a flame as it traced her lips, teasing as she tried to capture it with her mouth. But Teagan was on a mission. He planned to love her, to prove to her that he did love her. His mouth traced the curve of her jaw line, his tongue tasting her flesh. He moaned at her scent as it rose into the air, his body enraptured by the smell of her pheromones that emanated from her aroused sex. “God Josie, you make a man go crazed with just your scent.”

“M-my scent?” Josie asked, unsure what he was talking about.

“God, yes,” he growled, his mouth travelling down her neck. He nibbled at the point where her neck met her shoulder, sending quivers of need to pool in her belly. She revelled in the sensations he caused, letting her head fall back against the pillow. He caught one rounded breast in his hand, lifting the heavy orb and bringing her nipple to his mouth. It was scorching hot around her trembling flesh. The difference between the two of them had her aching for his hand and mouth on the other nipple. She groaned her need, her hands going to his shaggy black hair, tugging to get him to the other nipple. “Please,” she whimpered.

The sound of her voice sent his passions into a frenzy. He suckled at her nipples, loving ever whimper and moan torn from her mouth. He was between her thighs, only the coarse denim between them. She rubbed herself against one of his thighs, then his hand was there, pushing inside of her.

Heat and the sweet juices of her arousal greeted him. Slowly he pushed one long finger into her, adding another, stroking the soft inner walls of her core.

She wanted to arch against him, but as soon as she tried, her back protested, vigorously. She bit her lip, not wanting him to stop and knowing he would if he realised she was in pain. The only place he touched her now was his two fingers inside of her, stroking and thrusting, finding that rough spot inside of her that made her moan all the more.

“Now,” she growled. “Fuck me, Teagan. I need you inside of me.”

He slowly pulled his fingers away. They were wet from her and he licked off one finger before offering her the other. “Taste yourself?” he asked.

Josie took his hand in her own and pulled his finger close. She lapped at it slowly, her eyes never leaving his. Then she slid it into her mouth until she reached his palm. Her tongue circled his finger, even as she sucked on it, letting him feel the heat of her mouth.

“Oh holy hell, Josie,” he growled, throwing back his head. His cock throbbed as it protested that it wasn’t his finger he wanted to have sucked. Slowly pulling away his finger, he rose, fumbling with the closing on his jean. He wore no underwear under them. His cock was hard and right in front of her face. A small drop of fluid glistened on the tip. Josie reached for it, her tongue licking along the top as if to taste him. She lifted his hard shaft and found his balls. Bringing one to her mouth, she sucked it in. The other got the same treatment until he pushed her away. As he did that, Josie slipped her mouth over the head of his cock and began to suckle it into her mouth.

“You’re going to make me come,” he growled at her, watching as she pleasured him with her mouth. Her eyes turned up to him, watching his expression as she stroked him with her mouth. Her tongue slicked around the head of his cock as she went to pull away, only to suck him back inside again.

Josie’s only response was a throaty hum of pleasure. That sound and the vibrations of her mouth were too much for Teagan. He threw his head back and howled his pleasure

Josie swallowed his seed, licking him clean until he pushed her gently away. “Too sensitive right now,” he growled. He dropped to his knees in front of her, his mouth closing over her nipple again. His hand went right to her pussy, slowly separating the swollen lips and sinking into the heat.

“My turn,” he whispered up to her. He felt her anticipatory quiver of desire and chuckled. Slowly, he started just behind the delicate entrance to her womb, he licked upward, tasting her musky juices. He took his time, flicking her clit with the end of his tongue until she couldn’t breathe much less speak.

Tiny sounds came from her lips. Her breathing grew ragged and hard.

He watched her from where he knelt. Just before she could come, he stopped. “I want you to come on my cock,” he growled.

He pushed inside of her, gently, carefully. His eyes closed as she wrapped around him, her scent driving him mad. His strokes weren’t as hard as he would have liked, but he wouldn’t hurt her. He’d rather tear off a limb than have that could happen.

Teagan watched as Josie reached up, her hands cupping her breasts, pulling on her nipples. “Yeah, that’s it,” he said, his throat raspy. He felt the beginning tremors that shook her when she came and went a little crazy. His body moved against hers with harder and harder thrusts. He leaned over her, finding her lips. Then his mouth moved to the softness of her throat, right over her jugular.

With his sharp teeth, he bit down just a bit, her blood flowing into his mouth. He took just a little, cementing their relationship, though she didn’t know that. Now they were in each other’s souls. He licked at the small wound, watching as it closed up.

His strokes grew faster. Her body clenched under his. The muscles inside her caressed him like a wet velvet glove. His balls churned and he knew he wouldn’t last much longer.

Teagan howled his pleasure, and in the distance, somewhere outside, there was a chorus of howls in reply. He lay pliant in her arms, and she caressed his back, letting her fingers roam over his muscles as they slipped up his spine to play with his hair.

He lifted his head, looking over at her with concern in his eyes. “Are you all right?” he asked.

“Right now,” she said with a laugh, “I feel wonderful. I think you melted my thighs.”

“Nope. They’re right where I left them,” he chuckled. “They’re around my waist, sweet one.”

She hummed in contentment, happy he was with her again. He helped her in righting her clothes, even going so far as to fix the eyehooks on her brace. “This thing must be annoying,” he said.

“It is. I hate it, but I have to wear it. If I try to go without, my back feels like it will fold like an accordion. The thought of that scares me more than anything else.”

“I’m so sorry you had to go through that,” he said softly as he finished with the brace.

“Well, it’s not as sexy as one I could buy at the store, but it does what it’s supposed to do. I can’t wait to burn the damn thing.” She twisted it a bit then sat up.

Teagan looked out the window at the forest. She could almost feel him moving em
otionally away from her, even when he turned around and pulled her into his arms.

“You don’t have to stay,” she said softly. “I’ll understand.”

“My pack is calling for me,” he said. “I have to go.”

“I know, you’re the Alpha. Will I see you again?”

“Yes, I’ll be back, Josie.” He pulled her closer for a second then let her go, kissing her lips softly. He pushed her back to the sofa, bending over her to kiss each of her eyes, closing her lids. “Sleep,” he said softly. Then he was gone, running out the door without closing it.

Josie awoke a little over an hour later. Her body felt good, and she grinned as she thought about Teagan. A cold breeze caught her attention an she sat up to find the cabin door was open. But there was something else… Something she had to blink at for a moment because she wasn’t sure she really saw it. She grabbed her coat then pulled it around her and walked across the clearing.

Hanging on a branch just at the edge of the clearing were the jeans Teagan had worn when he’d come to her.

“I’m going crazy,” she said softly, pulling down the jeans and holding them in her hands. “That’s about the only rational answer for this. I’m going insane. First the button, then the water on the floor and now this?”

It was a dream, but looking at the jeans and remembering the water and the gold button of her jeans made her think it was something more. “Get a hold of yourself, Josie,” she said, happy to hear the sound of his own voice. “There’s a rationale explanation for this.”

But for the life of her, she could think of one.

  Chapter Four

The month flew by, her novel was finished and her dreams, while not always with Teagan, were wonderful. Josie felt like a different person than the one who’d pulled into the clearing a month before. She settled down on the couch, a book in her hands. She hadn’t seen Teagan in almost five days, the longest they’d been apart since he first found her there.

A small furrow of disappointed worry crinkled her brow, and she let the book fall to her chest. She had to leave at the end of the week which was only three days away. She wouldn’t have the money for another month until she got her first check from the novel.

“Maybe this time,” she whispered, taking off her reading glasses and setting them on the table next to her. She took a deep breath, letting it out slowly as she forced herself to relax. “Please, whatever God I need to pray to, please let him come this time. I need to see him again.” She yawned then sank into the pillow, pulling the blanket up to her chin.

“You look so cute when you’re asleep, love.”

“Teagan!” Josie cried, sitting up and reaching for him. “I thought I wouldn’t get to see you again. I leave in just three days.”

“I wouldn’t let you go without a goodbye, love.” His eyes took on a sombre look, one she knew too well. He was thinking of the future, both his and hers.

“Did you finish the novel?” he asked.

“Oh yes, and two weeks before the deadline. My agent is more than thrilled. I sent her an outline of my next project, one I hope you’ll like too.” She rose slowly with his help then went to her computer and booted it up. Clicking into her documents, she pulled up the file that held her proposed outline then backed up so he could see it.

“Wolfish Dreams,” he read slowly, chuckling. “You mean to write about us, then, love?”

“Yes, I just hope it’ll have a happy ending.”

“I believe in nothing else, even if it is a bittersweet happy ending,” he said softly, leaning down to kiss her.

“So you know what I’ve been doing this past week, where have you been?” She watched as the look on his face changed. She knew that look. It was the one he got when she asked a question he didn’t want to answer.

  “Around,” he said evasively.

“Around where?” she asked, not letting him go.

“My pack is searching for new grounds to stay for the winter. The hunting here is dismal, and we have females who will whelp by spring. I should be with them now, but I couldn’t resist coming this one last time, Josie.”

He wiped the tear from her cheek, bringing the drop to his lips. She rested her head against his chest, knowing he would pull away from her soon, feeling the separation as if it were a physical pain.

“I wish you well,” she said softly. “I’ll never forget you or what you’ve done for me this month, Teagan. I almost feel as if I can live again instead of just trying to survive from day to day.”

Looking up, she was nearly blinded by the beauty of his smile and the sadness in his eyes.

“Then I’ve done what I’d set out to do,” he said, brushing her hair from her forehead. “I’d never in my life known a woman with sadder eyes than what you had that first day, love. Now I know that you’ll go on to find the happiness that’s out there waiting for you.”

“And you’ll go on to mate with your new Alpha female and have your own litter of pups, won’t you?”

“It’s what is expected of me,” he said sadly. “Maybe fate played with us a bit in this lifetime, Josie, but I believe that sooner or later, we are destined to be together. Maybe not in the next life but soon, if you can wait for me, Josie.”

“I’d wait forever for you, Teagan,” she said, smiling through the tears that slipped from her eyes.

“I’ve got something for you,” he said softly, smiling down at her. “Then I must go. You’ll be having visitors soon, and I can’t be here for that.” He reached into the pocket of his jeans, pulling out a small braid of hair tied at either end with rawhide. Turning his head, he showed her a clipped spot in his hair from where he’d taken the braid. “I hope you’ll keep this with you for a while, maybe as a good luck charm to remember me by when you go back.”

“I’ll keep it with me forever,” she said with a sigh. “I wish I could give something to you, but you won’t have anyway to keep it with you.”

“I have the button from your jeans, from that very first day, Josie. I have it safe, and I looked at it when I couldn’t come to you. I’ll never regret this time. I hope you won’t either.”

“Never,” she cried, rising on her toes to taste his lips. The taste of salt filled her mouth, and she saw the tears he shed now too, running down his cheeks. “I love you, Teagan.”

A loud pounding on the door tore her from his arms, leaving her to sit up on the couch, bereft of his warmth. She held the black braid in her hand, and in her mind, she heard the lilt of his voice. “I love you, too, Josie girl.”

When the pounding sounded again, she rose shakily to her feet, sliding the braid into her pocket. Opening the door, she stared at the tall figure who was highlighted by the falling flakes of snow behind him. She couldn’t see his face, for even with the snow, it was brighter outside than in, leaving him in shadow.

  “Yes?” she asked nervously.

“Josie Macomb?” the man asked. There was something about his voice that was familiar, and she squinted, wanting to see his face.

“Yes, I’m Josie Macomb,” she admitted. Then a big hand was stuck out, and she automatically stuck her hand into it, feeling the man’s calloused hand holding hers gently.

“John O’Roarke,” he said. “I rented you the place?”

“Oh, yes, Mr. O’Roarke. Come in, please.” She chuckled, turning her back on the man to let him into the room. “It probably sounds weird, being asked to come into your own property.” She turned, seeing him take a thick hat off his black hair, shaking the snowflakes off of it before pushing it into his pocket. Then she saw his face.

For just a second, she swayed, almost as if drunk, staring into that familiar and beloved face that now belonged to someone else. He reached out, taking her elbows in his arms with a gentleness that was surprising with a man as big as he was.

“Are you all right, Josie?” he said, the lilt from his accent as strong and beautiful as it had ever been.

“Teagan?” she asked, her voice a shallow warble.
/>
“Have we met before?” he asked, staring down at her strangely. He felt as if he were waking from a dream.

“I-I don’t know,” she stammered, reaching out and grabbing hold of his coat with her hands, as if she were afraid he would run away. “Are you Teagan?”

“My middle name is Teagan. It’s a family name,” he said, shrugging his shoulders as if embarrassed. “I can’t help but feel I know you.” He touched the corset she wore. “You had back surgery because of a car accident. It crushed three disks in your back.”

“Yes,” Josie said, tears falling freely down her face.

His hand rose, touching her cheek and catching a tear on his finger. He brought it to his lips, a gesture so familiar it took all Josie had in her not to fling herself into his arms. “I know that I know you, but it’s fuzzy, like a dream I can’t quite grasp.” His gorgeous brown eyes searched her blue ones, seeing emotions there that neither of them could explain. “I think I need to sit down,” he said.

Instead of letting her go, he manoeuvred both of them so that they sat on the couch in front of the fire. His hands kept her close.

“Why are you here?” she asked.

“I came to make sure that you would be able to get out okay and to check up on the place.” He stared into the fire for a moment then abruptly turned to look at her. “That’s not true. I felt as if someone up here was calling to me, and I couldn’t help but answer. It was like it was fate. I had to follow what it decreed.”

“What did fate decree?” she asked softly, watching as his head bent, his lips coming closer to hers.

“You,” he said softly, moaning as his mouth touched hers. “You’re my fate. I don’t know how I know this, but I’ve never felt anything with so much certainty as I know this.” He stopped her reply with his lips, unable to keep from deepening the kiss until they were both left panting and wanting. “Tell me you feel it, too.”

Josie smiled, her hands touching his face. She rose, kneeling astride his lap, her hands pushing into the thickness of his black hair even as his hands went to her hips, pulling her against him harder. “Yes, John,” she said, the name coming easily to her lips. “I feel it, too.”
