As they entered the patio, Sky realized the trio was seated at the table, their view of the beach unobstructed.
Jamie pulled on his hand and slid behind him. She clutched the back of his tee as she leaned into him, her body shaking. With laughter.
Narrowing his gaze, Sky shook his head at Wolf, Piper, and Calvin. “Not one word.”
“Didn’t see a thing.” Wolf’s grin showed every one of his teeth in the light of the fluttering candle set in the middle of the table.
“Eat up,” Calvin said, waving at a deep dish of enchiladas. “You two are gonna need the calories.”
Piper patted the seat next to hers. “Don’t pay them any mind. We couldn’t see much. Not after Sky shucked his shorts.” She winked. “Nice ass, by the way.”
Sky was grateful for the dim lighting as heat filled his face. Not that he gave a shit. He was still feeling legless, relaxed, and happy with himself and Jamie.
“Got something for you, too, girl.” Calvin slid a doggie bowl across the paving tiles toward Tessa with a toe. “Don’t get too excited and decide my little piggies are part of the menu.”
Sky arched a brow as he took his seat. “So, who’s watching the cameras?”
Calvin patted an iPad lying on the tabletop. He swiped his finger across the screen, then held it up. “See what I see?”
They all bent toward the small screen. A woman moved around the living room, pushing a stick-vac. She wore black leggings that hugged thick thighs and a flowing, colorful shirt that flirted with the edge of her bottom. Her black hair was knotted at the top of her head. Her features were Hispanic, round but cute. And she was easily in her mid-forties.
“He has a maid?” Wolf leaned back in his chair.
Piper elbowed Calvin. “Looks like you’ll be busy. The help always loves to blab about their bad bosses.”
Calvin’s mouth stretched, white teeth gleaming brightly. “Wonder if she can spare a cup of sugar.”
Over enchiladas, a green salad, and slices of cantaloupe, they set their schedule, making sure someone watched the monitors and covered the beach during the day. They also made sure to plan for fun. The guys were going fishing in the morning.
Wolf had found surf casting rods and a box of fishing tackle with lures in the garage.
“Might catch us some tarpon or snappers.”
“Or barracudas.” Piper shuddered. “Do not expect me to clean them.”
Wolf reached out and patted Calvin’s shoulders. “That’s what the help is for.”
“Maybe la señora could be convinced to come for dinner...” Piper said, giving Calvin a wink.
He rubbed his chin. “Guess I better get some shut eye. Have to be fresh in the morning if I’m gonna schmooze our neighbor.”
Sky had been tagged to watch the monitors the first half of the night, but he was pretty sure Jamie wouldn’t leave him lonely. He held her hand inside his atop his knee. “Well, the meal was great, Calvin. Thanks. But I better head on upstairs.” He braced a hand on an armrest to rise.
“You two are not leaving me with all these dishes,” Calvin said, one brow arched.
Jamie laughed and tugged her hand from Sky’s. “You cooked. I’ll clean up.”
“I’ll join you.” Piper stood and stacked two plates. “I want to hear all about those Montana Bounty Hunters. I kind of miss the game.”
Stifling a sigh, Sky entered the house. Although the day had been long, and he was still working on a deficit of sleep, his steps were light as he headed upstairs to the comms room. There, he went through the weapons they’d been provided. Rifles and shotguns standing in a rack. Handguns rested inside a large pullout drawer.
He selected a Beretta, found a cleaning kit, and sat at the long table in front of the monitors to disassemble and clean his weapon on top of newspapers. When he’d finished, he flipped through the folder left for them, studying the photos of Pablo Estevez, their target. Pablo was in his early fifties, but still in good shape, with a mustache and a full head of black hair, and gray in his sideburns. He studied the photos of the men surrounding him—his driver, his “business manager”, and his bodyguards. All looked like hard-edged assassins, heavily armed and wearing vests in most pictures.
His business manager, Alfredo Salazar, looked especially ruthless with a pockmarked face, heavy brows, and a very short neck that blended into burly shoulders, His head was shaved bald.
Sky committed their photos and descriptions of their various crimes to memory, and then sat back in his chair to again check the monitors.
The maid had finished cleaning and now sat on the sofa in the living room while some soap opera played on the television. With the way she watched the handsome actors, Sky wondered whether Calvin stood a chance of romancing the older woman.
The door behind him opened and closed. Something clinked on a surface. He didn’t turn but slowly smiled as footsteps neared. Hands smoothed over his shoulders and glided down to his chest.
Jamie leaned her cheek against his. “I brought you a coffee and some cookies.”
The only treat he wanted was her. Sky clasped her wrists and pulled her around his body and onto his lap.
She wrapped her arms around his shoulders and kissed him. When she pulled back, she studied his face and frowned. “You look tired. How about I keep watch?”
Pride kept him from admitting how tired he was. SEALs were trained to push hard against limits. “I’ll be fine. You get some sleep. I’ll wake you when Wolf takes the next shift.”
Her mouth pursed. “I could use a shower.” She turned her head toward the row of monitors on the wall. “You know, we really should try to get inside and do a search for those weapons. Just to eliminate his beach house as possibility.
Sky ran scenarios through his mind. “We’ll have to wait until she leaves. Won’t have much time.”
She eyed the dirty rag he’d used to clean his weapon. “Tessa might help with speeding things up. We could use that rag as a scent object. She’d search for anything that smelled like gun oil.”
He nodded. “Good idea. We’ll have to see if Calvin can convince the maid to show him the local grocery store.”
She grinned. “Those two squeezing tomatoes? Might be a love connection.”
Sky couldn’t resist the temptation. He placed his hand on her small breast and gave it a squeeze. “These feel pretty ripe,” he quipped.
Laughing, she swatted at his hand. “Not your best line, SEAL-boy.”
Sighing, he slid away his hand. “Can’t play now anyway. Work first.”
“Play later,” she said, giving him one last lingering kiss before she moved off his lap.
After the door closed behind him, he rearranged his dick inside his shorts. It was going to be a long night.
The instant the bedroom door quietly opened and closed, Jamie woke. She peeked at the digital clock on the nightstand. The numbers read 3:30 PM.
Sky’s footsteps moved toward the bathroom. The door closed. The shower started. She was tempted to join him, but she’d dried and straightened her hair and didn’t feel like repeating the process. Instead, she moved to the center of the mattress, pushed the covers to her hips, and then rolled to her back. Her pulse kicked up a notch. She’d give him a sight he couldn’t resist.
Sleep must have crept back over her, because her next moment of awareness came when a large hand caressed one bared breast.
“Did I wake you?” he murmured in the darkness.
“Mmmm.” She rolled toward him. “Still asleep.”
He chuckled. “Then you won’t even notice...” He whipped back the covers and crawled over her body. “Hold on, babe. This SEAL’s going down...”
Jamie gasped as he pushed apart her legs and settled between them. She raised her knees at the touch of his fingers on her folds. When his tongue lapped between them, she raked her fingertips through his hair and dug in her nails. “What’s a girl got to do get some sleep around here?” she muttered playfully.
His la
ughter pushed gusts of air against her sex. “I’m doing all the work. Don’t let me disturb your dreams.”
Fingers slid inside her and swirled. His lips latched around her clit and drew gently. Slowly, it hardened, encouraged by his suctioning and the flutter of his tongue. The hood protecting it slid upward as it grew engorged. “Sky... Oh! That feels so good,” she whispered, her body writhing. She cupped her breasts and teased the tips. Tension built in her core. The slow steady pounding of her heart grew heavier.
Groaning, he paused and shifted to his knees. “Roll over, babe.”
She turned and pushed to her knees then moved backward, following the guidance of his hands until his cock tapped her folds. Reaching between her legs, she parted herself with her fingers and pushed backward to take inside his thick round head.
Sky let out a loud sigh and palmed her ass. He held her still as he eased himself inside her.
Glad she was on the pill, she wouldn’t have tolerated even a thin sheath between his cock and her slick walls. As he circled, screwing into her channel, she dropped her belly to raise her ass, wanting him deeper, needing him to thrust straight and true, rather than continue the teasing, swirling torture. His shaft caressed every inch of her inner walls.
“You’re fucking wet, baby. Feels so hot.”
Shivers raised goose bumps on her skin at his low growl. “You make me this way. Fuck me, Sky. Do it hard.”
Again, he paused, his knees shifting, his hands forcing hers to spread wider. With a palm on her lower belly and the other on the notch of one hip, he began to stroke her, driving straight through her walls, building friction as he thrust faster and faster.
Soon, so much moisture flooded her sex the slippery, nasty sounds they made echoed in the bedroom. God, she loved this. The slaps, the fullness, the quickening motions.
A finger slipped into the top of her folds and toggled her clit.
The move jolted her body. She pushed up, flinging back her head. Her body curved higher. She was close.
Now, Sky hammered inside her. Nothing gentle about his hard grasp or his sharp thrusts. “Hanging by a thread, babe.”
His graveled tone sent another thrill straight through her. Just the nudge she needed. A slow, high-pitched keen tore from her throat as her orgasm erupted, spreading outward from her pussy, making her belly, thighs, and arms tremble with the force of the explosion. Her arms crumpled, and her head and chest fell to the mattress.
Sky continued to pump, both hands now guiding her hips forward and back to meet his shortening thrusts. He pounded her, pushed deep, and held.
His come filled her, one hot jet at a time, and then he slowed his motions.
Their labored breaths were loud in the silence that followed. Letting go of her hips, he then fell over her, his weight pushing her hips downward. He pulled his cock free before sliding a thigh between her legs, transferring his torso to the side, and kissing her shoulder.
She turned her head toward him. They kissed, openmouthed as their gasps quieted.
“I love you, Jamie.”
She smiled in the darkness. “Say that again when you aren’t happy your balls just burst.”
“I mean it,” he said, nipping her skin then following with a tongue swipe.
“Oh, Sky,” she whispered against a tight throat. “I love you, too.”
Chapter 5
The next morning, Jamie and Piper sat in the comms room. The guys had snuck out just past daybreak to fish, which left the women with the job of coaching Calvin in his attempt to seduce the maid next door into leaving the house. Something that provided them more entertainment than any network sitcom.
“Tell her how pretty she looks,” Piper said.
Jamie watched as Calvin delivered the line in Spanish then gave the woman a smile.
“You’re grinning like a lecher,” Piper bit out. “Drop your gaze and try to look bashful, for fuck’s sake.”
Calvin’s gaze lowered, and he thinned his lips. Jamie could read his irritation with Piper’s critique, but the housekeeper, Lola, beamed and fluttered her eyelashes.
“Now, tell her you’d love for her to show you where to find the ripest melons,” Piper said, then her voice dropped, “but don’t you dare look at her boobs when you say it.”
Jamie snickered and reached out to mute the microphone Piper spoke into. “You two are killing me.”
Piper flashed her a smile. “This is payback, and he damn well knows it. Usually, he’s the one giving me a line of shit while I work a target.”
Calvin continued finessing the woman, convincing her to accompany him to the local grocer, an invitation she eagerly accepted.
With a handbag over her arm, Lola paused to punch the alarm system next to the door.
Calvin followed her out, but not before he aimed a glare at one of the cameras.
“Okay, that’s our cue.” Piper donned a jacket and pulled up the hood to hide her hair. Then she slid a pair of glasses on her nose. “As soon as I cut the power to disarm the alarm system and the feeds from all the rooms, it’s your turn. I’ll be watching the road from the upstairs window.” She flicked a switch on the microphone to speak to the guys who wore earpieces. “Guys, Calvin just left with Lola. I’m heading over to cut the power. Then Jamie and Tessa will begin the search.”
After Piper slid out the door, Jamie glanced at Tessa resting on the floor. This would be Tessa’s first real test since she’d been shot. Although she didn’t expect any trouble, she was worried whether the dog would show any nervousness or aversion. If Tessa didn’t perform well, she’d retire her and give her loving home, but she’d miss working with her. She stood and patted her thigh. “Hier, Tessa!”
Tessa popped up from the floor and moved to sit beside Jamie.
Jamie clipped a lead to her collar and bent to run her hands over Tessa’s coat to remove any loose hairs. The last thing they needed was strange dog hair tipping off the maid. Then she glanced at the monitors from their house’s security system, watching as Piper, head down to prevent her features from being identified, neared the electrical box on the side of the other house. She pulled down a lever. The monitors with views inside the arms dealer’s house went black.
“Let’s go, girl.” Jamie hurried down the steps, passing Piper as she slipped inside the side door.
Piper gave her a thumbs-up before taking the stairs two at a time.
With butterflies awakening in her stomach, Jamie patted the weapon holstered beneath her blouse and gave a tug to Tessa’s leash. “Fuss!” She opened the gate to Estevez’s patio then pulled her lock pick kit from her pocket. The French door lock snicked as it opened, and she lowered the door latch.
Footsteps sounded from behind.
Tensing, she reached beneath her shirt even before she turned.
Sky’s dark scowl brooked no argument. Truth be told, she was relieved he’d be with her while they searched. “Be sure to brush the sand off your feet,” she said, then tugged on Tessa’s lead.
“Wait.” Sky wiped his feet and stepped through the door. About a minute later, he returned and held the door open for her. “It’s clear.”
“Of course, it is,” she said, her tone dry. “We were watching the monitors.” But she understood his caution and rather liked how his chivalry made her feel. Reaper tried to cover her up in cotton wool to keep her safe, but she didn’t accept it. Not from him. But with Sky... Maybe she was used to him taking charge, like he had in Kandahar when she and Tessa had been assigned to support his team. He’d kept her shadowing his moves, always stepping into danger first.
They began the search in the upstairs rooms. She opened the baggy she’d brought with the oil-soaked rag and held it beneath Tessa’s snout.
The dog pushed her nose inside then raised her head to Jamie.
“Tessa, such!” she said, giving the command to search. Then she relaxed the leash, allowing the dog room to move about, her nose sniffing along the floor and pausing at the furnishings. Jamie opened close
ts and repeated the command. As they performed a methodical search of every room, she was uncomfortably aware of the passage of time. Anytime, Lola and Calvin could return. Or worse, Estevez and his many henchmen.
At last, they finished the upstairs. The only weapon they found was on old revolver in the nightstand in the master bedroom and a shotgun in Estevez’s closet.
A search of the downstairs also failed to uncover a stash of Army weapons. When they’d completed their search, they looked around to make sure everything looked exactly as it had been before moving outside.
Once they were clear of the patio, Piper moved in, again disguised, to turn on the electricity.
“Well, shit,” Wolf said as they entered their house, rubbing the back of his neck. The iPad lay on the kitchen counter beside him. “Well, that was worse than a waste of time. If his people were watching remotely, they’ll realize something’s up. If they roll back the footage, they’ll know Calvin lured her out just before the outage. They’ll put two and two together.”
“Or they’ll assume someone watched until she left before entering the house,” Sky said with a shrug. “Which is why I lifted these.” He held up a Rolex and a pair of jeweled cufflinks.
Jamie frowned. “When did you—”
Sky arched a brow.
“So, he’ll think a thief entered.” Piper nodded. “Good idea. But I still think we exposed ourselves. We’ll need to double up. And always have a weapon at hand.”
“Had a Beretta in the fishing tackle.” Wolf gestured toward the box on the floor. “Not stupid.”
Sky stood with his arms crossed. “I had another in a baggy buried in the sand next to the gate.”
“Well, good.” She gave Wolf a pointed glance. “Did you catch dinner?”
Wolf smiled, looking pleased with himself. “Got snappers in a tub outside.”
“Still swimming?” Piper wrinkled her nose.
“You like your fish fresh, don’t you?”
Piper grimaced. “Ugh. Just clean them before you bring them inside.”
The guys grinned and left through the French doors.
