“Why you ain’t eating? You look like you in your own world,” Ray’Shun said with a mouth full of food.

“Something like that.” By the look on her face, Ray’Shun knew something was bothering her. Dropping his fork in his plate, he leaned back in the chair and folded his arms across his chest.

“What’s up? What’s on your mind?” he asked.

Taking her phone out her purse, Trinity put the video on and slid the phone across the table. Ray’Shun stared at it, ran his hand down his face and stared at it some more. No, he hadn’t done anything wrong, but watching himself walk out the bathroom while fastening his belt buckle would make any mothafucka think he was up to no good in there. He was going to tell her what really happened and leave it up to her to believe her man or not.

“Man, I ain’t go even lie, I know how it might look but I didn’t do shit with that damn girl. I guess them hoes planned that shit or something. I was in the bathroom pissing and she just walked in and before you even say something, I was there before they got there. I went in there and used the bathroom then left. Here, call Slim and ask him.” Getting his phone out his pocket, Ray’Shun slid it across the table, only for Trinity to slide it back across to him with her index finger.

“There’s no need for that, baby. He could lie too. You see Ray’Shun, I wanna believe you. I really do, but I just can’t.” Ray’Shun opened his mouth to speak, but Trinity held up her hand to stop him. “And it has nothing to do with our past.” Reaching over to her phone, Trinity pulled up a photo of Eve displaying a big ass passion mark that was on the side of her neck.

Now, Trinity wasn’t the smartest person in the world but being that she’d just witnessed her man coming out the bathroom with this girl, she had every reason to believe that mark came from him.

Ray’Shun couldn’t say shit. Even though he hadn’t done anything, him coming out the bathroom with Eve and now there was a passion mark on her neck, didn’t look good at all. Leaning back in his seat, he stared at the phone emotionless. He was indeed upset with the way they’d set him up, but now wasn’t the time to let his anger towards them play out. With him doing that, he would look guiltier than he already was.

After Ray’Shun stared at the picture for what seemed like forever and Trinity sat staring at him, she finally chuckled. “You can’t even say shit, can you?”

It was crazy because they’d just shared a beautiful morning together and now the fuckery was in full force. Ray’Shun ran his hand over his curly fro as he finally looked up at Trinity.

“I mean, what you want me to say?” he asked. Trinity frowned at him and was tempted to slap that dumb ass look off his face. His nonchalant attitude was slowly breaking her heart.

“What do you mean what I want you to say, Ray’Shun? Nigga, I want you to say that you didn’t fuck her at least. Even though I know you did, you can at least try to convince me that you didn’t like you always do,” Trinity yelled, drawing attention their way.

Looking around at the many people that was staring their way, Ray’Shun said, “Man, calm down girl.”

“You pretty much just owned up to fucking this bitch and now you want me to calm down. Kiss my butt Ray’Shun.”

“I ain’t owned up to shit! I told you the first time you slid that phone in my face that I ain’t fuck that girl. You the one that said I did. You don’t believe shit I say anyways so why tell you the truth when you ain’t gon’ believe it?” Ray’Shun said honestly. Trinity didn’t believe anything he said. It’s like her ass would rather he lie to her than speak the truth.

“How could you expect me to believe you when you’re constantly lying to me? You lie so dang much that I don’t know when you’re telling the truth or not. You know if it was the other way around you would be ready to nut up, but you expect me to calm down and be okay with you coming out the bathroom with your ex. You know that shit ain’t right Ray’Shun.” By now, Trinity had tears rolling down her face. She wasn’t sobbing or anything, but she was definitely hurt.

“Okay man, I feel where you’re coming from, but did you think that maybe they sent that shit to you so that you could dump my ass? You know neither one of those hos want us to be together and now you about to feed into their bullshit. I done told you about all that naïve bullshit you be on.”

“But whether they sent it to me out of spite or not, you had no business in the bathroom with her Ray’Shun. And whether you had sex in there with her or not, something went down that shouldn’t have because the bitch had a fucking suck mark on her damn neck,” Trinity said as she threw a slice of bacon at him.

“Aye man, chill out.” Ray’Shun said as he stood. “You got mothafuckas in here staring at us and shit. You picked the wrong time to come at me with this bullshit. Some shit that I ain’t even do. I don’t care what it may look like, I ain’t do shit with that damn girl. Now if you wanna continue to sit here and go on about some dumb stuff then you can do it by yourself.” With that, Ray’Shun walked away from the table. No, he wasn’t going to leave Trinity but he wasn’t about to sit there and have mothafuckas staring at them. They were too young to continue to go through the same bullshit.

Trinity didn’t say anything nor did she look back as Ray’Shun walked away. How was he going to up and get mad at her when he was the one caught on camera cheating? It seemed that the two of them just couldn’t be happy. Reaching across the table, Trinity grabbed her cell phone and got up. As she was walking towards the door, the waiter called her from behind.

“Excuse me ma’am. Here’s your check,” she said as she held out the ticket for her to take. Trinity rolled her eyes as she shook her head. How could he just walkout without paying the bill? she thought to herself and after she paid it, she walked out to find him waiting inside the car.

“Let me talk to you, Niyah,” said Shaniqua as she walked into Shaniyah’s room. Because Shaniyah had in her ear plugs, she didn’t hear a word her mother had said. Of course she saw her enter but still didn’t attempt to remove the ear plugs. All Shaniyah wanted to do was cry over Kush in peace. Snatching the plugs out her ear, Shaniqua let her know they needed to talk as she took a seat.

“Why do you feel that we don’t want you here, Niyah? Me nor your dad has ever made you feel unwanted or have we ever shown favors between y’all. Well, for you of all people to think that about your dad was dead ass wrong. You know Ronny will bend over backwards for you and I think you really hurt his feelings with that.”

“Well, he hurt my feelings too,” Shaniyah replied nonchalantly.

“How? How did he hurt your feelings Niyah? Because he told you to stop crying over that boy?” Shaniqua asked, confusedly. She could look at her daughter and could tell that Kush had her head gone. She just didn’t want to accept the fact that her young ass daughter was sprung over some lil boy’s dick.

“No, it wasn’t because he told me to stop crying over him. It’s because all y’all loving over Destiny’s pregnancy and only concerned about the things I do. When I skipped school you almost beat the black off me and you always grounding me and taking my phone, but Destiny goes out and get pregnant and she doesn’t get nothing. Ray’Shun be cursing everybody out and staying out all night and nothing happens to him. Every time I say something, I’m getting in trouble by you and daddy. That’s why I feel like y’all don’t want me here,” Shaniyah explained.

Hearing her daughter express her feelings broke Shaniqua’s heart more now than it did in the car. She could see the hurt in Shaniyah’s eyes and it could be heard in her voice as well. With tears streaming down her face, Shaniyah continued to express herself.

“It’s like everybody is all against Kush and wanting to confront him when y’all was just right there with Man and didn’t even say ten words to him. What did Kush do that was so wrong that Man ain’t do?”

Shaniqua continued to stare at Shaniyah as the tears began to fall from her eyes. Shaniyah was right and she knew that. Destiny was the one that was knocked u
p but yet and still, Shaniyah was getting in trouble for everything. With a heavy sigh, Shaniqua closed her eyes and shook her head. She didn’t even know how to handle this shit and felt she wasn’t strong enough for the mixed emotions her daughter was taking her on. Why did they have to grow up so fast?

“I understand where you’re coming from Niyah, I really do. And the only reason I think things didn’t go as planned when we went over there is because of what happened with me and their mama, but I can guarantee you that we will be having another conversation with him again.”

“What, y’all gonna tell him to stay away from Destiny again? How is that gonna work anyways with her about to have his baby? Oh, y’all just gonna be there and take care of it, huh?” Shaniyah questioned with a snobbish attitude. Shaniqua was trying to remain calm but at the same time, she wanted to snatch a knot in her little ass. Her attitude is what gets her in trouble every time.

“First of all, you need to check that attitude. You keep on talking about we’re showing favoritism and shit, but look at the way you walk around here Niyah. With your nose in the air and acting like everybody owes you something. If you don’t want nobody saying shit to you then I suggest you fix your attitude, boo, because I’m not about to kiss yours or nobody else’s ass. Daughter or not, I ain’t doing it! Now, let’s get that straight right now,” said Shaniqua as she stared her daughter in the face. If Shaniyah thought she was about to talk to her mother any kind of way and there be no consequences, then she had another thought coming.

  “Sorry,” Shaniyah mumbled.

“Now of course I’m going to be there for Destiny and do all that I have to do as a mother, just like I would’ve done for you if you were the one that was pregnant. Am I mad with her? Hell yea I am, but what’s done is done and there’s nothing I nor Ronny can do about it.”

“Well neither one of y’all is acting mad. To me y’all acting like y’all don’t even care.”

“So, Ronny acting like he doesn’t care to you? Hell, he won’t even talk to the damn girl. This is the time she needs me and I’ll be damned if I’m gonna turn my back on her. Would you want me to turn my back on you?” Shaniqua asked. As far as she was concerned, she was Destiny’s mother and she wouldn’t treat her any less than she treats her own kids.

  “No.”

“I love Destiny just as much as I love the rest of y’all and I don’t want you to think I love her any more than I do y’all. Do you hear me? I love all y’all the same, Niyah. Me and your dad both does, and for you to think we don’t is a slap in the face. I don’t ever wanna hear you talk like that again. It may seem like you get in trouble a lot, but believe me, it has been plenty of times I had to go to the room and pray to keep from putting my foot in your ass.” Shaniqua laughed, even Shaniyah chuckled. “I swear you do the most, lil girl.”

“Ma, I do not.” When Shaniyah said that, Shaniqua gave her a funny look and rolled her eyes upwards.

“Tuh. The hell if you don’t. Why can’t you be sneaky just like the rest of their ass? Like, roll your eyes and talk shit about us behind our backs. You do it in our face and argue with us until you get your point across. You got that shit from your daddy though.”

Laughing, Shaniyah said, “Nah ma, he said I got my attitude from you.” It was good seeing her smile as she sat over there looking like Ronny.

“I believe you did because sometimes I can’t deal with myself just like I can’t deal with you.” They laughed. “I tell you, your mama was something else back in the days, honey child. So you got my attitude with both me and your daddy’s good looks,” Shaniqua said proudly as she stuck out her tongue and wiggled her hips. That had Shaniyah laughing harder than before.

“Nope, I got my daddy’s good looks,” Shaniyah laughed as she dodged the pillow Shaniqua threw at her.

“So what you trying to say? Hell, I look good too.”

“Kush thinks you look good mama,” Shaniyah decided to throw out there.

“Well, I guess Kush got good taste then baby because I’m a bad Mama Jama.” Shaniqua mustered up a smile when she said that as she fought rolling her eyes at the mention of his name.

“Oh lord, Mama.” Shaniyah laughed before turning serious. “Mama, what is so wrong with me loving Kush?”

Why did she have to mess up the moment with that question? Shaniqua thought to herself. Now, she had to keep it as real as she could with her daughter.

“Well, considering the fact that you just turned fifteen the other day, it’s a lot wrong with that. You shouldn’t be loving any boy that ain’t your family.” With a deep breath and a roll of her eyes, Shaniqua continued talking. “But I guess since you think you are in love; you just need to be careful. From what I was told, that boy is heavy in the streets and I just don’t want you to make the same mistakes I’ve made. Dating a street nigga isn’t something you wanna do Shaniyah. That’s an emotional roller coaster that you’re not ready to ride baby.”

“But I don’t think I’m in love with Kush, I am. Yes, Kush might do what he does but he ain’t all that bad like Ray’Shun is trying to make it seem. Plus, all that doesn’t matter. He treats me good so that’s my only concern. I just wish y’all could meet him ma. I promise you will like him; you just have to give him a chance.” It was as if Shaniyah had aged ten years. She sounded so mature and there was so much love in her eyes. There would be a little sparkle in those grey eyes whenever she mentions Kush’s name.

“This will take some time but if you feel he’s the right one, then eventually we would have to accept that. Now, it might take a little longer for your dad to accept it, but hopefully he will.”

“Thanks, Ma. Hopefully when he gets out, he can come over to dinner,” Shaniyah suggested. She knew Kush would win them over once they got to know him.

“Whoa, don’t push it lil girl. Ronny will kill you, him and me if I let him come over here. Now give me kissy so you can go to bed.” Once Shaniyah laughed and did as her mother said, she laid down with a smile on her face. She can truly say she enjoyed the little conversation she and her mother had, and couldn’t wait for the day her parents accepted her relationship with Kush.

  Chapter 13

Looking over at his phone, Ronny saw that it was almost one in the morning and he had damn near twenty missed calls from Shaniqua. He’d been doing so much needed paperwork in his office and had lost track of time. He had turned off his phone because he didn’t want or need any interruption. Being that it was so late, Ronny decided to wrap things up and head home. As he was just about to put the phone to his ear to call Shaniqua, there was a knock on his door. It kind of startled him because he didn’t know anyone knew he was still there, plus the bar was closed. It was a Sunday and they closed an hour ago.

Reaching into the desk, he removed his .9mm that he had stashed there and set the phone down. Creeping to the door, he snatched it open and the person on the other side was met with the barrel of the gun staring them dead in the face.

“Oh my God Mr. Ron,” Alesha said with her hands thrown in the air. “It’s only me.” She had a frightened look on her face that caused Ronny to laugh.

“My fault lil mama. I ain’t know who you were. Shid, I thought everybody was gone home,” he said as he walked back to his desk and set the gun on there. He then turned back towards the door to find Alesha still standing there with widen eyes. “Girl, bring yo’ scary ass on in here or go home one,” he laughed as he leaned back on his desk.

“Man, I think I just shitted on myself boss-man. Why would you do that?” She quickly walked in and hit him on the arm, playfully.

“Hell, I thought everybody was gone. Fuck you still doing here? We closed an hour ago.” Ronny questioned her suspiciously. His trust issues were something serious. If it wasn’t his family and Bino then you couldn’t be trusted in his eyes.

“I was doing a little work downstairs and making my rounds. I didn’t see you leave so I was just trying to make sure you didn’t sneak past me,” Alesha said as she batted
her long eyelashes.

“Nah, I been up here working, trying to get my mind straight. I was actually wrapping things up though,” Ronny explained in a nonchalant tone.

“Care to share what’s on your mind? I’m a good listener. Now, I might not give you good advice but you can always vent to me.” As Alesha spoke, Ronny studied her body language and noticed she’d inched closer to him.

“Nah, I’m good.” Standing up straight, Ronny stretched as he looked Alesha over. He would be lying if he said she wasn’t wearing the hell out of those black leggings. She had hips and ass for days that filled the tights out to perfection. “It’s getting late lil mama. You better get on up out of here,” Ronny said as he walked around to gather up his paperwork that was scattered all over the desk.

Alesha caught on to the way Ronny had just looked at her with lustful eyes. As long as she’d been working there and trying to get his attention, he’d never really paid her any. He would say what he had to, business wise, then go on about his business. Alesha knew she wasn’t an ugly chick and married or not, she was used to men chasing and lusting after her and when Ronny didn’t, it had her wanting him more than she’d ever wanted anyone else.

Sitting her things on the couch that was inside, she walked over to him and just stood there. At first she was debating if she wanted to make a pass at him or just leave well enough alone. Looking his tall physique over, she took in all of Ronny’s sexiness and with a chuckle, Alesha shook her head. His ass is too damn fine to leave well enough alone, she thought to herself.
