“I always knew you two would get together,” she said.

  “No, you didn’t,” Mike insisted.

She tossed her long mane of black hair behind her shoulder, making her jewelry shimmer. “Of course I did. I’m psychic.”

“Okay, if you’re psychic, which one of these fine brethren of mine is going to bite the dust next?”

Kristin elbowed him in the ribs. “Careful what you say, buster. Remember your honeymoon starts tonight. I’d hate for you to have to spend it alone.”

Laughing, he looped his arm around her shoulder and pulled her close. “The best thing about loving you is knowing I’ll never be alone again.”

Emma Jean scanned the wedding guests, her gaze falling on Logan Strong, who was talking with Janice Gainer and her son. Emma Jean studied them a moment, then shook her head. “Maybe you’re right. Maybe I’m not as psychic as I thought.”

“If you’re thinking about Logan getting married anytime soon, you’re dead wrong. Once was enough for him. He told me so himself.”

With obvious reluctance, Emma Jean agreed.

It was only after she wandered off that Mike remembered Emma Jean predicting months ago that he’d never be eligible for the bachelor auction again. That prediction, he was happy to say, had certainly come true, though not the part about him garnering the top bid. Chief Gray had earned that dubious distinction, courtesy of Councilwoman Anderson.

He glanced in Logan’s direction again—and wondered.

“Something wrong?” Kristin asked when he frowned.

He grinned at his bride, her vibrant auburn hair framing her face, her delectable lips smiling back at him. Tempting him. “Nothing getting out of here and starting our honeymoon won’t fix. I love you, princess.”

“I love you, too, my very own Prince Charming.”
