Steamy: A Romance Anthology That Sizzles Page 26

  Patience

I have to be honest. Knowing that Sophia wants me as much as I want her, but that I can’t have her due to circumstance… Well, that sucks almost as much as my thinking she was ghosting me.

  Well, almost.

The past three weeks have been an exercise in patience.

Last weekend Sam and Natalie stopped by to try to get me to go out with them. When I declined, Natalie smiled sadly and patted my arm in sympathy. As they left, she hugged me and whispered in my ear “Sophia sends her regards. She said this all is wrapping up soon.” I nodded that I understood and watched them leave with a wave.

  Soon.

That word has been both my salvation and damnation all week.

It’s Friday, today, and I called out on a personal day. To be honest, I just wasn’t feeling it. After attempting to sleep in, I decided to be a grown up and straighten the place up. I’d just gotten done vacuuming when there was a knock on the door.

Opening it, I saw Sophia standing there, with a nervous smile. “Hi. Can I come in?”

I opened the door fuller but stood rooted to the spot after closing it. Could it be? Are we really done with this bullshit?

She must have noticed I wasn’t following her past the foyer because she turned and looked at me. “Jason, baby, are we okay? Is there still a chance for a ‘we’?”

I swallowed, then stepped closer to her. “Well, baby, by my account this whole hold up was for other reasons. Are those good, now?”

There was an excited, and yet nervous, glint in her eye when she nodded in the affirmative. “Yeah. As of an hour ago, everything is all settled.”

“So, we are picking up where we left off before all this started?” I asked, making sure.

  “Yeah. I guess we are.”

“Good, because I’ve been dreaming of the taste of your cunt for over a month now.” I didn’t give her time to respond before I kissed her and guided her back to the wall beside the door. Once she was backed up to it, I placed one last peck to her lips and dropped to my knees.

“What are you...? Oh, fuck, Jason…” she mewled, as I lifted her skirt above her full hips and started leaving kisses along the inside of her thighs.

I tilted my head back to make sure I looked her in the eye. “Tell me now, baby. Tell me now if this isn’t what you want. We can do sweet, later, but right now I want to feel you run down my chin while I lick you from your tight little ass all the way to your hard little clit.”

She moaned and nodded, dropping her head against the wall. That wasn’t good enough, so I nipped her thigh playfully. “Nope, need to hear the words, baby. Tell me this is what you want.”

“Fuck, yes, Jason! I want your face buried right fucking there!” Her hand reached down to comb its way into my hair, tugging me closer.

“Patience, baby, patience.” I lowered her panties down her legs and helped her step out of them, then winked at her as I put them in my pocket.

Her giggle turned into a moan as I teased her by placing light kisses over the top of her shaved mons. My hands ran up the back of her thick thighs, and I guided her to place one over my shoulder. I moaned, myself, at the sight of her; all wet and ready for me.

Focus, Jason. Show her how much you’ve wanted this.

I came at her like a man parched. Licking, suckling, nibling… When I didn’t think her clit could take anymore and she was close, I abandoned it to delve for the honey straight from the source. Lowering myself a little I teased her by tapping my tongue against her ass to start. When she froze and let out a guttural moan, I made a mental note to explore that more, later.

She screamed when I started fucking her with my tongue. Her hands in a death grip in my hair, I lapped and sucked until I could feel her edging to the precipice, again. As much as I wanted to feel her cum around my cock, I really wanted to fulfill my promise by having her cum all over my face to start.

Sophia was shaking when I backed my head up and looked her in the eye. “I need you to let go, baby. I promise I can take everything you’ve got. Let go and let me taste you.” I replaced my fingers where my tongue had been and went back to lapping her clit. Around the third time of spelling my name in cursive with my tongue while sucking on it and lightly nibbling, she broke. My fingers were drenching, so I lifted her up more on my shoulders and went back to lapping her all up. Fuck, I could live on this pussy.

When she could stand on her own, I stood and kissed her. “Let’s go relax for a moment.” She nodded and allowed me to guide her to my room.

Once there, I kissed her again and began removing her clothing. Each piece of skin that was revealed seemed to beg to be kissed—and who was I to resist? By the time she was naked before me, she seemed to be vibrating with need, again.

“You have a funny way of relaxing.” Sophia commented, with a smirk. “This is just keying me up, again.”

  “Oh, yeah?” I replied.

“Yeah. Why don’t you let me help you out of your clothes, Jason, so I can show you just how much.”

Well, fuck, it’d be rude to deny the lady what she asked.

I stood stock still while she repeated to me what I’d done to her—but avoiding the area that cried out for her the most. I jumped when she kneeled behind me to help me step out of my pants, and playfully nipped my ass cheek as she stood back up. “Get on your bed, baby. Let me make you feel good.”

I nodded, and lay on the center of my bed, watching her. I reached into my bedside table and took out a condom and lay it beside me. She started on my toes, kissing and licking. When she got to my hip bones she smiled as she lowered her head to place a light kiss on the head of my cock, then started working her way down the other leg. I groaned.

Done for. Completely, utterly done for.

She started to make her way back up, and must have felt sorry for me because before I knew it she wrapped her plump lips around my dick, and took me straight down the back of her throat. Jesus fucking Christ. No gag reflex?

I looked down at her, and my breath caught in my throat. The sexiest woman I had ever been lucky enough to be in close proximity to had my dick in her mouth. Had my dick in her mouth! “Baby, baby, I gotta stop you.” She looked at me in confusion for a moment, then picked up very quickly when she saw the condom by my hand.

Unwrapping it quickly, she rolled it on me and scooted up to straddle me on the bed. Rocking herself back and forth she moaned as my dick tapped her clit on each swipe. “That’s it, baby. I’m yours. Use me however you want. Use my body to come as many times and ways as you can.”

She stopped grinding and lifted herself a bit to line me up with her and lowered herself down on me. “Those are mighty grand words there, Mr. Roberts.” Her breath stuttered for a moment as she finished her descent. “I might just have to take you up on them.”

“As long as I get to touch any part of you in the process, baby I’m good for whatever you need.” My hands settled on her hips as I bucked up a bit—drawing a moan from us both.

Sophia must love a challenge, because she rode me like a woman determined to take what was hers. Before I knew it, we seemed to both be heading towards our releases. I knew I damn sure was.

I moved one hand from her hip to her clit and began rubbing firm circles. She looked me in the eyes as she came hard around me, practically forcing me to follow. “Fuck, Jason.. Goddamnit.”

She lay atop me for a moment, while we both caught our breath. “I don’t think I can feel my legs.”

“I felt them squeezing my hips, earlier, and they felt fine.” I then yelped as she gently pinched my side, inadvertently making me buck into her one last time.

“Think it’ll always be like this?” she asked.

  “Like what?”

“I can’t seem to get enough of you. I wanted you from the first time I saw you at the club.” She admitted.

“Baby, if you had any idea how much I wanted you since then, well… It’s embarrassing. But, to answer your question, I don’t know if it’ll
always be like this—but I am definitely game on trying my best to make sure it can be.”

Her eyes softened at my response. She looked down on me and kissed my lips. “Jason, if I’m not careful I could fall in love with you.”

“Sophia, I stopped being careful the moment you helped me get my ass off the floor. I think I’ve been waiting for the rapture of falling in love with you my entire life.”

Done for. Completely, utterly, blissfully done for.

  Promises Kept

  Jamie Garrett

I promised Nick I’d watch over her but how could I stay when I loved her, too? But now someone’s trying to hurt her. I’ll give up my life to keep her safe. That’s a promise I’ll keep.

  Bobby

The old man sitting at the end of the bar grumbles and slumps lower on his stool as the afternoon light hits his eyes. Aside from ordering a fresh scotch on the rocks every twenty minutes, he hasn’t said a single word in the past two hours.

Normally, I might try a little harder to strike up a conversation. It’s a big part of my job—and my tips—after all. Not today, though.

I can’t even pretend to care today. It took everything I had just to come in for my shift. Acting like I enjoy it? Yeah, that isn’t going to happen.

  Maybe tomorrow.

Maybe after I’ve had a few rounds of scotch myself. Maybe after I’m too drunk to remember what today is. At least the club will be busier later. That should help keep my mind off… everything. Once the other bartenders and the cocktail waitresses get here, there won’t be time to stand around and feel sorry for myself.

I slide a fresh drink down the bar and take the empty one away, half-considering starting my drinking binge a little early. Who’s going to know? That old man sure as hell isn’t going to tell anyone and I have at least a couple of hours all to myself before anyone else shows up for work.

The front door opens and I grit my teeth. The old man and I both make a similarly annoyed noise as the figure of a woman momentarily blocks out the blinding glare of the sun. I don’t want anyone else to come in right now—even if it happens to be a hot blonde whose body is a ten out of ten. She might be just the kind of distraction I need.

I’m not ruling it out, but a woman is probably the last thing I need right now.

“Bobby?” Her voice hits me like a punch in the gut and makes the breath catch in my throat. No one’s called me by that name for years. “I hoped you’d be here…”

  I know that voice.

  I knew that voice.

A voice from my past. My buddy Nick’s wife. I haven’t seen her—haven’t heard that quiet, gentle voice—since…

Since five years ago today, at Nick’s funeral.

“I can’t talk to you, Lauren.” I half-turn away, a wave of shame washing over me. I don’t want to be rude. Not after everything I’ve already done to fuck up her life. But I just… I can’t. “Not today.”

I promised Nick I’d watch out for her. That I’d always take care of her. But I was supposed to be there for Nick, too, and look how that turned out.

“This is a hard day for me, too, Bobby.” She walks up to the bar, ignoring my warning entirely. “But it wasn’t your fault. That’s what I came here to tell you.”

“Stop.” I shake my head. I’ve already heard it a million times before. How it wasn’t my fault. How nobody could have saved him. “Please. I know you mean well, and I appreciate it, but—”

“No, I mean it.” She raises her voice to interrupt me, then lowers it again with a quick glance toward the guy at the end of the bar. “It wasn’t your fault, but he wasn’t killed in the attack, either. At least, not by someone on the other side. Someone else killed Nick. And now…” She looks around again. “Now I think they’re after me.”

“That… that isn’t possible,” I say, barely able to process what I’ve just heard. “I was there when he died. I was right there with him the whole time. Right until the end.”

“I know,” she nods. “But they never caught the people responsible, did they?”

I shake my head. I hate that we’re even talking about this right now. I hate all of the ugly, painful memories that are coming back up to the surface. “No,” I reply quietly. “We never caught them.”

“He was targeted,” she insists. “It wasn’t some random thing. It wasn’t just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. They were after him. And now I think they’re after me.”

  “Who? Why?”

“I’m not sure who, exactly. But it has to do with the two of you and… and whatever you used to do after you joined the military.”

I feel my eyes go wide as she continues. She shouldn’t know about that. She can’t know. There’s no way in hell Nick told her.

  Did he?

“What do you know?” I’m almost afraid to ask.

“I know enough. And I want you to tell me the rest.”

  2

  Lauren

I can tell he’s pissed as he drives me back to his apartment. He’s barely said two words since we left the bar and the knot in my stomach is growing with each passing second. I need to hear the truth but I’m scared of what he’s going to tell me.

The things I’ve learned about Nick—and about Bobby—over the past several months have ripped open all of the old wounds that had just started to heal.

Once we’re inside his apartment, he silently makes us both a drink and gestures for me to sit down at the kitchen table. “Tell me what you know,” he finally says as he slides a glass of bourbon and soda my direction.

I frown at the hard liquor smell but take a sip anyway. I need to steel my nerves for this conversation. “I’ve been getting some phone calls…” I wince as the alcohol burns my throat. I can feel the heat from it all the way down to my belly. “I thought they were just kids pranking me at first. Then I thought maybe it was some kind of pervert after I heard the man speak. Now, though…”

I shudder from the combination of the hard liquor and the memory of that voice. Bobby’s fists are clenched on the table as he watches me closely. “Who is it?” he asks, his voice quiet and measured. I can see the anger bubbling up just under the surface. “Who’s bothering you? Tell me who it is and I’ll take care of it.”

“That’s the thing,” I explain. “I’m not sure who it is, exactly. But they know who I am. And they know—they knew—Nick.” He doesn’t interrupt, so I keep talking. “After the calls started getting scarier, I decided it was time to go through some of the things I’d been putting off—papers and stuff that had been locked away in Nick’s desk at home. I know it sounds sort of silly, but… those were his private things, you know? Things I never even knew existed until after he was gone.” I shake my head and sigh. “I started going through all of his old papers and I found… I found things from his life before I met him. Things that involved you.”

Bobby shifts in his seat and his anger has changed to something else. Something I can’t quite put my finger on. It’s a look I’ve never really seen before. Is he nervous? He can’t be scared. Bobby doesn’t get scared. He and Nick always acted like they were invincible.

“Go on,” he nods. “Tell me what you found.”

I think he already knows, but his expression is unreadable again. “There was stuff from the government. Stuff from the CIA. I don’t know what all of it was, but there were references to… to missions and covert operations and high-priority targets.” I look him straight in th
e eye. “I need you to tell me what you and Nick used to do. Were you involved with shady people? Were you doing illegal things?”

He takes a moment before answering, his brow almost twisted in thought. “Shady, yes. But not illegal. Or I guess I should say the government instructed us to do some things that otherwise would have been illegal.”

I feel the weight of his words hit me and I slowly exhale a breath I didn’t even realize I’d been holding in. “So you were spies? Hitmen?”

“Something like that,” he nods. “Now back to my question—who’s bothering you? You need to tell me everything you remember about the phone calls you’ve been receiving.”

I tell him everything I can. I start by telling him how the calls seemed harmless enough at first, but now I know better. “I threatened to call the police last time,” I say. “And the guy on the phone just laughed. He said to go ahead and call. He said the police can’t help me. Just like they couldn’t help Nick.”

Bobby’s eyes go wide. “He said that? The part about Nick?”

I nod. “That’s how I know this guy had something to do with Nick’s death. He basically admitted it.”

“Fuck,” Bobby mutters. “Okay. We’re going to fix this. We’re going to find this son of a bitch and then… then I’m going to make him pay.”

  Bobby

It’s hard for me to stay calm as Lauren tells me about the asshole who has been calling her. She shouldn’t even be in this position—she wouldn’t be if it wasn’t for the job Nick and I used to have.

We’d been good at that job. Maybe a little too good. Nick paid for that with his life. Now they’re coming for me.

But if they think I’m going to let them take Lauren down in the process?
