She Turned into a Werewolf
Page 30
Unfortunately, my flashback was cut off when Adelina blurted out, “It was only 1,000 dollars. Come on, can you guys be any cheaper! We get twice the cost of that all the time, and that isn’t even for special occasions!”
I couldn’t help but to roll my eyes at her remark. Regrettably, she saw this as well and made a big fuss at it.
“Did you just roll your eyes at me? I am a princess; you cannot roll your eyes at me. That is a huge disgrace to me! I demand an apology.” I furrowed my eyebrows.
Is she serious? I thought to myself.
“Of course, I’m serious! Apologize right now or I will have my guards drag you away!”
“Um, I’m sorry for disgracing your honor, your highness,” I said to her trying my best not to laugh at her.
“That sucked, but I will accept it for now. Devlon, you need to teach Nina some manners. She is lucky she only did that to me. Other royalty would have punished her severely.”
“I apologize for her inappropriateness, Adelina,” Devlon said bowing his head to her. “Nina, please leave the table and join us again later for the feast. We will discuss your punishment after the feast.” Devlon said excusing me from the table.
“Yes sir,” I said to him as I scooted my chair back and stood up.
Two guards approached me from behind. “Don’t worry guys, I’m leaving,” I said to them holding my hands up. I started to walk to the exit.
In my head, I heard Caleb speak, “seriously Lucas? You’re not going to do anything? Devlon will listen to you.” He said.
“No kidding.” Reed piped in.
“Honestly Lucas, do something.” Eli also said.
I waited a second for a response. “Don’t worry about it guys. I’ll see you in a bit.”
To my horror, Adelina had to pipe in as well. “For now, we will see about that so-called in a bit. Goodbye little prophecy girl.” I continued to look forward and exited the door with the two guards following me the entire way.
“Can I go change into my wolf?”
They just stared at me in response.
“Umm does that mean yes or no?” I questioned further. “Oh well, I’m going to my room then.”
They started following me again.
“Great, I can’t even go by myself.” I huffed. “You know, I’m not going to go do anything right?”
They of course didn’t answer again. I just rolled my eyes and made my way to my room. They followed me the entire time, making sure I didn’t get too far in front of them. As I arrived at my door, I opened it. I was turning around to shut it but one of them put his large hand in between the door and the gap.
“Seriously, you have to come in as well? So be it.” I said giving off yet another huff, this time louder than the first. “Can I go to my room to change into my wolf?” They shook their heads no. “So, you’re telling me I have to change right here in front of you two. Lovely.” I said in total sarcasm. “Can you at least turn around and let me change without you watching me?”
To my surprise, they hesitated a bit. Reluctantly, they agreed by turning their bodies to face the door. My instincts told me that they weren’t supposed to do that, but they were being generous.
“Thank you,” I said to them, bowing my head even though they couldn’t see me do it.
Quickly, I took my clothes off and changed into my wolf. Her coat shined in the light. I turned around and wedged my way in front of them, at the door. They opened it, and we went back to the meeting room. We only had to wait a few minutes before everyone started exiting the room.
The first one, predictably, was Adelina. “Follow me,” she instructed her guards. “Leave that pathetic woman alone. God, even your wolf is ugly. A part of me feels pity for you. But only a small part.” She said flashing me a crooked smile as she left began her trek down the hall.
It was so hard for me not to roll my eyes at her once again.
The next person to leave was Catherine. She looked extremely worried.
“Oh, Nina! Thank God you’re ok!” She exclaimed as she trapped me in a tight bear hug.
My wolf squealed as her grip was too tight, gasping for oxygen. She understood and released me with an apologetic expression. At that exact moment, Reed exited the room. I let out a bark telling Catherine that I was fine. Since she was not truly in the pack, I could not tell her within the mind. I had to do the next best thing which was speak out loud. If she were human than I would have been in big trouble.
“What’s next?” Catherine asked Reed.
“We go outside and begin our feast, but first, we need to find a group of werewolves that you can run with.”
“Why can’t I stay with you guys?” She asked confused.
“Yeah Reed, why can’t she stay with us.”
“Nina, I don’t think….” He started but was cut off by Caleb.
“Reed, she will be fine. Let her stay with us.”
“I don’t know…” Reed started saying and began to hesitate. He closed his eyes to think.
“Reed please,” I said to him.
“Alright, but she better keep up. I don’t want to be on the chopping block as well.”
I squinted my eyes at him, offended.
“Oops, sorry Nina.” He gave me an apologetic curved smile.
“It’s alright. Thanks for letting Cath join us.”
“Thank you! Thank you!” Catherine jumped up and gave Reed a tight squeeze.
“Hey, babe? I think you need to learn your grip. You’re squeezing me to death.” He said as he tried to lightly pull her off of him.
“Sorry! I guess I have been doing that a lot lately.”
Reed laughed. “No worries. Just try to keep in mind you are stronger now than what you were.”
Instead of replying, she gave off a sheepish grin.
This caused Caleb to laugh. “I don’t know who is worse, Nina or you. You both get embarrassed so easily.”
Cath and I looked each other in the eyes and our eyes twinkled with understanding. We turned to face him and stuck both our tongues out at him. Well, it was easier for Cath to stick her tongue out properly as she was still in human form, but I did it in my wolf form.
“Man, there are two of you.” He said shaking his head sideways as he began walking down the hallway.
“Hey wait up!” Reed yelled from behind him trying to get Caleb to slow down.
“See you babes later!” He yelled as he ran after to catch up.
The next person to leave caused my heart to flutter. He made no noise as he moved forward, his leg muscles swaying from side to side. I looked up at him and our gaze met, his golden eyes twinkled in the sunlight. Just as quickly as our gaze met, he tore it apart.
“Get outside Nina.” Was all he said to me as he left the building himself.
I could not believe what he said to me. It appears as if he doesn’t even want me here. I thought for sure that we could at least still be friends, not just get out of each other’s lives for good. But I should have known this would have happened. I was just like those stereotypical girls who believes that they can break up with their boyfriends but remain friends afterwards. Obviously, it wasn’t going to be that simple. Especially if he cares for me even the slightest bit that I care for him. It pained me to see him, but not run into his loving strong arms. It killed me not to be able to be around him anymore, but above all else, it pained me to see him with Adelina. I just pray that she is better than what she was before. I pray that she will make him happy in ways that I couldn’t do.
“Why is he being so rude? This doesn’t make any sense. This doesn’t sound like him at all. You know what Nina? I am happy you aren’t with him anymore. He is being a dick.” Cath broke out.
I simply shook my head at what she said and tried to push her to the exit.
“Okay okay, I get the hint. Calm with the pushing Nina.” She said to me. “You still aren’t going to change my mind about him though.” She said to me, looking down at me to see my face.
I just shook my head as we walked outside where a large number of werewolves were at.
Chapter 6
“Holy Cow! That is a huge number of werewolves.” Catherine said to me. “I should probably go change, shouldn’t I? Catherine asked me.
I shook my head up and down clarifying that she should indeed change into her wolf counterpart. She walked behind a tree and a few minutes later her wolf emerged.
“Nina, if you don’t mind me asking, what did everyone mean about you getting kidnapped?” She asked me concerned.
“Oh, the night before all of this happened, where I had to take you and mom here, there was a full moon.”
“I remember,” she said.
“Every full moon they have one of these. It was actually the first day I met the pack and Lucas. He brought me here, not telling me this whole thing existed. Well besides that, after we catch our prey of the night and have our so-called feast, there was a party. Some guy came up to me and asked me to dance with him. I was being kind, so I said yes. After the first song, I started to get a fuzzy feeling about the whole thing. He asked for another dance and I reluctantly agreed. Stupid me, I forgot to pay attention to the cup. Someone within his pack, filled the cup with something that I don’t know what. It was some sort of drug, but I couldn’t even smell it within my punch. Anyway, they strapped me to a tree and I woke up. They didn’t expect that to happen, but a good thing it did. I was able to talk to Lucas within my head and the pack came to the rescue. He was going to burn me at that tree if it wasn’t for them saving me. I don’t know if you ever noticed that a part of the forest is burnt to the west, but that was where the whole thing happened.” I explained to Catherine.
“Oh, my,” Catherine said in response. “You really went through a lot of trouble while being a wolf didn’t you.”
“Some, but it is what it is. Now we just have to be careful with the whole wolf hunter thing and things should calm down once again. Thankfully, I haven’t heard anything on them attacking us too much. We just have to keep an eye out for it.”
Catherine was about to say something but was cut off by Jeremiah.
“We still feel extremely bad about what happened the last full moon.” He whispered to us.
“Don’t worry about it. I appreciate that you guys came to my rescue.” I uttered back to him.
Catherine piped in as well, “thank you for taking care of my sister.”
“It is my honor.” Jeremiah said as he bowed his head to me.
“We better get to the pack. The feast is about to start.” He said as he started leading us in the right direction.
It only took about thirty-seconds to arrive at the pack since we were pretty much right next to them the entire time. I noticed Adelina next to Lucas and had to refrain from rolling my eyes once more. I am already about to get punished for that act I pulled a little bit ago, the last thing that I needed was for it to happen again. What was she even doing here? She never leaves the castle for things like this. My sister glanced at me to make sure that I was okay. I nodded my head to tell her I was fine.
“Baby girl over here should really work on keeping her thoughts to yourself. I am trying to be here for my lover boy isn’t that right love.” She said nuzzling Lucas who didn’t move.
That really made me want to gag.
“Nina, leave her alone. She can join us if she wishes.” Lucas retorted.
“And what is she doing here?” Adelina said to me.
“Who? Cath?” I said looking in her direction.
“Yes, her. She doesn’t belong here. She isn’t part of our pack.”
Catherine’s head dropped to the ground. “If you don’t want me here I can…”
“No Catherine,” I said to her.
I turned my attention back to Adelina. “She belongs here whether she can hear our thoughts or not,” I said to her trying to hide my disgust.
“If you say so, but I don’t believe you. If she gets us hurt, It’s on her.” She said as she turned her back to me putting her tail straight into the air in a drama queen manner.
“Everybody, get lined up,” Lucas said to us, his eyes fixed on the woods.
Usually I ran right beside Lucas, but this time I decided to hang in the back with Catherine.
“Are you sure you want to be back here?” Eli whispered to me.
Apparently, Adelina heard him because she cut me off by saying “of course she wants to be there. That is where she belongs.”
“Actually, she belongs up by Lucas. Look at her coat Adelina, even you know what that means.”
“Well, not anymore. I am going to be the new alpha along with Lucas, right love?”
It wasn’t much of a question; it was more of a demand than anything else. Lucas simply shook his head up and down.
“See.” She said to us. “Now stay back there.” She growled at me showing me her teeth.
I didn’t even so much as flinch to her warning. She looked weaker than a pinecone. For Pete sakes, I would even bet my money on Catherine over her and that is saying something. She was in no way capable of being an alpha, she had to know that.
“GO!” I heard Devlon yell.
I pushed forward with my legs and began running through the strong wind. Catherine was right beside me, stretching her long legs out. We pushed our bodies into the woods, jumping over the first fallen log. Being in the back of the pack was different. I could hardly see anything except Eli, Dante, and Jeremiah who ran directly in front of me. It also felt like we were running slower than normal, probably because we had both Catherine and Adelina with us. We didn’t want either of them to trail behind.
Lucas sniffed the air and led us into the direction of the prey. The smell told me it was a buck. My eyes scanned the trees as they rested upon it. It had twenty points on its antlers. I heard movement to the left of me, the opposite direction of the buck. Quickly, I used my nose to identify it. It was an elk.
“Why don’t we go for the elk?” I asked Lucas.
He opened his mouth to answer the question, but Adelina cut him off.
“Because I want the deer, so what I want, I get.”
“Okay… but there are quite a few of us. The elk would be more meat for people to eat.”
“Shut up Nina. I want the deer so that is what I’ll have.” I shook my head in disbelief. “Fine.” I muttered and that was the end of the conversation.
“Here’s the plan, Catherine and Adelina, I want you to watch and see how everything is done. This is a dangerous job if you aren’t properly trained. Nina and I will run forward into the woods and try to cut the buck off, that way it won’t have anywhere to run. Caleb and Reed, I want you to attack from the sides. Caleb, you take the left. Reed, you take the right. Jeremiah, Dante, and Eli, you three attack from behind. Beware of the powerful legs as it will most likely kick out.”
Everyone bowed their head while their task was assigned to them. Adelina began laughing, making me nervous that she was going to scare it away.
“Lucas, Nina is not to be anywhere next to you. I don’t trust her.” She said as her eyes blared into me.
If I didn’t know any better, I would have thought she was a witch trying to burn me on fire.
“I think I can handle her on my own,” Lucas said to her.
She simply shrugged and muttered, “we shall see.”
I really couldn’t believe this girl. She is back for one day and she is trying to run the entire pack. Oh, how much I wished she would just go back to when she didn’t want anything to do with us.
We all crouched on the ground, “Nina, go!” Lucas yelled as we both pushed forward, contracting our giant muscles, picking up speed to get in front of the large brown beast. As soon as we had enough distance, we got in front of the animal, stopping it in its track. Caleb and Reed both jumped on its side, biting him. He thrashed his legs, trying to kick the wolves off him. Eli and Dante both dodged the onslaught of the legs. Jeremiah wasn’t in range, so he had nothing to worry about. Lucas ju
mped up with his large muscles and bit the white-tailed deer’s neck. Caleb moved out of the way, while Reed jumped on its side using his weight to knock him over. With the combined weight from Reed and Lucas, the animal fell on its large side. Lucas gave one quick bite of his strong jaws and the animal eyes glazed over in death.
Adelina ran up to the kill and began eating. I walked up but Dante put his body in my way and whispered quietly in my ear. “Adelina is going to make you wait to eat. You will have to wait until she is done.”
“You have got to be kidding me.” I muttered to him.
“I wish I was, I’m starving.” He said to me with fire in his eyes.
I guess I wasn’t the only one who despised this woman. As she began to eat from the carcass of the animal, we all sat there and simply watched her. Catherine looked like she was starving as she was sitting with her tail wrapped around her legs.
“Are you okay?” I asked her concerned for her health.
“Yes, I’m just hungry.” She admitted to me.
“Honestly, I figured you were,” I said back to her.
What seemed like half an hour, Adelina finally had her fill. I never thought such a small girl could eat so much food. She ate more than she should have, she didn’t leave enough for all of us. My guess is she knew perfectly well what she was doing.
“Go ahead and eat guys, I’m not that hungry anyway. You used way more energy than I did taking the animal down.”
“Are you sure Nina?” Eli asked me.
The rest showed their conflicting emotions. It was obvious they wanted to be gentlemen’s and let the girls eat first, but they were super hungry. Male werewolves always need a lot of food to keep their bodies moving.
“Yes, Eli. I will be fine but thank you.” Lucas walked up to me and said, “eat Nina. You need your food. I’ll eat something when I get back.”
“Oh no you don’t.” Adelina jumped in. “You need your food and there is no way you are leaving here without it. I need you to be strong, not some little wimp.”
