One story that has refused to die over the years is that the battery Harry Truman commanded was supposed to provide artillery support for Donovan’s attacking regiment October 14 and 15. When it did not do so, Donovan allegedly complained, earning the everlasting enmity of Truman, who eventually retaliated by closing down Donovan’s OSS. Nothing could be further from the truth. Truman’s battery was nowhere near the Landres-et-Saint-Georges battle.
